I understand what you mean, I've seen gambling addicts that wants a way out but despite their efforts to come out of it they find themselves going back to it, it's like eating your vomit, not a good experience. An addict has to first agree that he has addiction problem and he is willing to receive help, that is the first stage but not enough to cure it, a chronic addict needs to get help from loved ones and possibly professionals.
