Is Dark Mode a "must-have" for you?

I’m currently tweaking the UI over at WagerX.io and I’m torn on a feature.

As somebody using dark mode pretty much everywhere possible, I'll tell you about something more to test out:
* some browsers, like Vivaldi, have some sort of dark mode override, making even actual "light" websites dark; the problem is that even images get inverted and some will look bad/unrecognizable
* an addon from Chromium was doing the same

What I want to also tell (apart of "you may want to test that too") is that there are more ways to have dark mode on, some may not even bother to set it from website.
Overall, ignoring dark mode in 2026 is not a good business direction imho.

Yes ofcourse. I use my laptop on dark mode most of the times and that has made me attracted to all the dark mode applications as well.
I do prefer sites having dark mode. Besides that, dark mode on gambling sites look way more attractive than light mode.
Also, I mostly gamble during the night time which makes it convenient for my eyes if I were gambling in dark mode too.

Dark backgrounds are indeed popular among many gamblers and traders, and among many mobile and desktop app users in general. Although I don't fully understand the reason for this preference. I often hear that a dark background is supposedly more pleasing or easier on the eyes. Frankly, I doubt it. I've seen studies that claim that black letters on a light background are more pleasant to read than white letters on a black background. But if it's an app where you don't have to read much, just glance at a few sentences and numbers, then perhaps a dark background is the better choice.

Actually this would be that still depending on someones preference in the end of the day whether you would be going for white or dark mode. For me then i would definitely go for dark mode on which it doesnt hurt up the eyes and that would be giving out that good overall experience when you do play and this is why i do prefer into those sites that does have whether light or dark mode on which you can switch up but most of the time then i would be going for dark because it doesnt hurt up my eyes and for sure that most gamblers do prefer on having that UI because it is that smooth in the eyes and i dont like into those sites that having that too much fancy colors but well just like been said that it would be that depending on someones preference because each one of us would be having their own interest.

The dark mode is very well suited for those who gamble not during the day, but at night. I had a period when I was a student, and I loved to sit in front of the computer until 2-3 o'clock in the morning, and in the morning I would calmly wake up full of energy and go to the university.Oh, youth. So often my nighttime gatherings took place while playing computer games or poker.
Right now I would be playing with my smartphone in bed, and before that I would be sitting with the lights off in front of the monitor. And then it would be very cool if all sites had a night dark mode. Because even the presence of an orange eye protection mode in complete darkness does not save the eyes from overexertion. But a full-fledged black mode is exactly what would be needed.

Yes, I normally use the dark mode if it is offered by the platform I'm using, even some default settings are not dark mode automatically, unlike before when it was just light mode and you will have to change it by yourself, right now, you will have to change from dark to light mood if you don't like it. Some platform's UI is also good that you don't even need to turn on the dark mode, you just preferred the colours the way it is.

Personally, I never use "Dark Mode" on websites. 🙋 I often encounter this mode in situations where it's offered as an option (for example, as an interface option on my smartphone). However, to be honest, I don't quite understand its purpose...

Some claim this mode is better for their eyesight. I haven't noticed this. In my opinion, day mode is much more comfortable for my eyes. However, this could, of course, just be my subjective feeling (I don't claim absolute truth).

On the other hand, you're designing an online casino interface not just for me and for people like me! I just read the comments and realized that many users actually like dark mode and prefer to use it. Therefore, in my opinion, people should be given a choice. The main thing is that switching between the two modes is simple and intuitive. In my experience, when I accidentally switch to an alternative interface on a site and can't switch back for a long time, it's incredibly annoying! 🤷

I personally admires a gambling platform that consider for dark mode in their platform appearance because this has a lot to do with the reaction from our eyes and performance in gambling, being strained when the eye is excessively exposed to light rays is not good and could make the entire experience tiring to us,  because of the gambling exposure time and the effect of light on our eyes, except there's a consideration for a dark colored these or background on the platform.

Well, it's understandable that many gamblers like a dark background since it's easier on the eyes, less discomfort specially for long session playing. I also prefer dark mode but it's not a big deal if the particular site where i'm playing don't have this. Because I chose to play on that site due to its advantage for gamblers, for their offered games/bonuses and not solely because of its UI. Though it's a plus point if you have this feature.

In my case I often use the dark mode mainly on my smartphone, when a available, but maybe not so often in my browser, perhaps because I use my laptop mainly on my desktop, which is well illuminated, while I use the smartphone while on the sofa and in bed.

But it is not a must-have for me, and I would put it at the bottom of the list that I consider important when choosing.

Sometimes, some medical conditions might motivate you to limit the light you expose your eyes to even behind blue lens, Most times light mode causes headache for me and my eyes hurts when I wear the blue lens for longer, so using a site with a dark theme is a good deal for me, while those with only light theme is a punishment for me.

BTW why would a site not incorporate dark themes with the level that UX has upgraded to? It's clear they are marginalizing against users that have preference for dark themes.

I've never found the need to use a dark mode on any site, but see the option quite often. For me it's the sort of thing that could be buried at the bottom of a user settings page because it is used so infrequently. I tend to find the brightness control on my phone enough to set what I need. If you wanted to figure out how many people actually use it then surely you could put some sort of trigger on it to track that information, then you could decide whether having that necessary (or unnecessary) extra bit of code on your site is worthwhile. It's also just a background feature that doesn't really impact users a lot, so maybe you need to focus on expanding all the other bits of functionality on the site first.

Many casino nowadays have a default dark themes without the need to have a dark mode. Casino like Rollbit, Duelbits, Punkz and many have a default black background and they just add different color theme for distinct appearance on their casino.

I believe dark mode is the most preferred UI of most gambler since it’s less straining the eyes considering that most gambling games has a lot off visual effects.

Allowing the ray of light to enter the eyes can casue effect at the accumulative stage and many that had been doing this without knowing the later effect of the danger they are putting themselves. Medically, it is not advisable for us to be exposing our eyes to the light emissions that is coming out from different gadgets like phones, laptop and radioactive screen.

Maybe this depends on the comfort of each individual, I myself have comfort with darkness, whether it is in the real world or online I always choose dark warrants. In addition, with any casino where I like to gamble so I feel comfortable when I find a casino that does look dark, but even though there are casinos that look light and if it can be changed to dark I will feel comfortable.
And when there is a new casino dengana default tampiilan already dark most likely I will try it, because of the appearance alone has made me comfortable.
