If the government makes it compulsory for every platform then bitcointalk management will have no other option put to include it here, this forum is not like Bitcoin itself, the government can bring it down if they see it as a threat to the law same way mixer is ban in the forum till date, because the government was against it, even though other forum are allowing it now, we don’t have freedom in this life we are being controlled by the laws made by the government and it has been this way since we were born and it will remain like that forever.
But there’s no point doing the age verification because people will still lie and you can’t stop them except they build the site in a way we can only have access this forum if we do KCY Grin.

I rather not a those things that need personal information. When I was under 18 some games wants to enter age and I knew that it will reject me if i enter under 18 so I enter above 18 to play those games. Now same as always if those things doesn't require me to submit any documents to prove my age then I would just enter random number and use it.

And I know everyone would do the same and they know it as well so why did they need age verification? It's to meet legal requirements, reduce liability and to show they made a reasonable effort to prevent mistakes.

EU is also making some changes towards this
~
This is generally a question for theymos as admin of bitcointalk forum, but other members can join discussion.
I remember those 2 statements from theymos:
I intend to ignore all stupidity coming out of the EUSSR.
I'll get right on that, just as soon as hell freezes over.

Asking an open source OS to do KYC on people before accepting them as users is stupid
It's just as stupid as the clueless politicians who created the "cookie law", which still makes me click away utterly pointless popups for every site I visit. I must have clicked tens of thousands if not more of them by now. And those politicians no doubt actually believe they did something that makes the world better!

I would genuinely leave the forum if I was forced to hand over an ID and selfie to post here.
What forum?
Code:
sudo echo '0.0.0.0 bitcointalk.org' > /etc/hosts

there’s nothing explicit here
There is. I've seen some pretty good NSFW stuff Smiley

As a Bitcoin forum, you would not expect any form of identification requirement here. Also CMIIW, but I've not come across any age requirement to be on the forum. There is none required to use Bitcoin or run a node either.
Mirroring what some government agency is doing is also not something you will expect to happen here.

Those platforms that asked for age verification before accessing them, how sure are they that there are no underages accessing them, What has it solved, absolutely nothing. Trying to make it compulsory for every platform to do age verification won't make the world a better place. People should focus their energy in making laws that will add something meaningful to the society. I don't see how age verification is the problem of the world right now. Underage people can buy identity of others and use it to access any platforms they want. So what's the point of making any law that can't solve the problem you thought it could solve?

I don't think this will ever really happen. Even if governments change the laws, protecting children is the parents' responsibility, not the state's. If an age limit is introduced on social media, children won't stop using those platforms, they'll just continue using them with an adult's identity. Even now many kids are already using social media through their relatives accounts. Even a 10-year-old can pretend to be an adult, after all there's no proper identity verification or facial recognition system in place.

Instead of introducing symbolic laws, if governments truly care about children they should improve the quality of education.
If age restrictions were applied to the entire internet, Bitcointalk would probably be one of the last places to be affected.

Adding to this, bitcointalk behave differently from other social media platforms and this age verification isn't seems appropriate for bitcointalk. For example, while all the social media platforms are KYC dependent, here there is no KYC to access the bitcointalk. In case we forget the password, the recovery is different too. Also if the account is hacked, the recovery methods are very decentralized like signing an old wallet address and other things that are not possible on social media platforms.

Honestly speaking, most of this platform’s that asks for this verification of someone identity that has to do with age, what happened in California and Brazil are good evident of what the Government are now doing in the world currently now, but I think they don’t have any say on that, it should be the admin of the bitcoin forum that can make such change in the platform, and it will have an advantage of people who also have different alt accounts which is not against the forum because here is an anonymous platform and so many peoples identity would obviously be made public, but I’m not expecting any form of age requirement, because bitcoin forum wasn’t created in that manner.

I have to ask if this can happen to Bitcointalk forum?
So far, I haven’t really seen any kind of age restriction like that on the forum and honestly, I don’t think it’s something that will come up in the future either because it’s not really necessary. Normally, on most platforms where there are age limits, people just put a higher age to bypass the restriction and to be real, many people don’t even take age requirements that seriously.

Those platforms that asked for age verification before accessing them, how sure are they that there are no underages accessing them, What has it solved, absolutely nothing.
Yes, Absolutely nothing. There’s really no solid solution to this because people can easily bypass age restrictions by just using a higher age to join any platform. In today’s time, even if there’s a normal age limit in place, it’s very simple for anyone to go around it and still gain access without much stress.

Same with any "OS", wtf is their goal with this, to take away my anonymity in the name of children? (while burying the Epstein files?)

It has a bitter taste, because we used to joke about KYC for the forum on April Fools day.
KYC on Bitcointalk was great joke, but now I'm not 100% certain that it won't happen here. You know what makes me to think so? Ban of mixers. Yes, I know reasons behind this, but it's first step towards these things.
Still, I hope that age verification or any other kind of KYC stuff will be required on Bitcointalk, I will have no other choice than leave.

This is becoming so ridiculous, and the government is hell-bent on frustrating anything they can just to get access to information and what they need to launch an attack. This platform is an anonymous platform as it was built and designed in line with the Bitcoin goals by Satoshi and team, so I do not think Theymos would give in to the idea of age verification here because it is all about anonymity here. Anyone who accesses this platform is assumed to be an adult and of age to be able to interact with the internet, so what point is it telling the admin to incorporate age verification?

If an age limit is introduced on social media...
This is not a question IF, this is already happening now in several countries.
Sure, they can bypass it for now, but next step will be face scan or ID upload for sure.

I think I have been on PayPal for 20 plus years  and I am kyc there
I am on ebay and I am kyc there.
Yeah, but you have no other option but to KYC to use those services Tongue

But the real question, could this affect the forum? I don' think so, The forum ha global users, such policy is only applicable on sites that falls to jurisdictions of EU or area implementing this.
Social media are even more ''gloal'' than forums, and they are starting to implement this.
I even saw that Discord started with this crap, and reddit is moving in that direction.

I would genuinely leave the forum if I was forced to hand over an ID and selfie to post here.
I would probably do the same thing a leave.
I am sure many members would just pay someone from other countries to ''kyc'' them.

I remember those 2 statements from theymos
I remember them also, but California is sometimes looking more SSR than EUSSR.
People already started forking systemd and many linux OS, but I am 100% sure Ubuntu will have this age verification crap.

If an age limit is introduced on social media...
This is not a question IF, this is already happening now in several countries.
Most people use their real name on social media, with personal pictures. I teach my kids not to do that.

I'd like to see privacy laws enforced on social media: that will be the end of posting pictures of people without their consent, and it will be the end of sharing contact lists with messengers. Basically, it will end social media as we they know it.

I don't feel age verification is necessary for the forum. Because if you are not a native English speaker or are not studying in the English medium, then using this forum for a child isn't easy. Out of that, even if the forum adds this age verification, then users will just tick the mark on the terms and proceed. Because there is no KYC for the forum, and it will never happen, I believe, so there is no true way to verify the age without personal documents.

Bitcoin is decentralised; the forum serves to discuss Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Hence, even children would learn about Bitcoin from the forum. This isn't social media; the forum would consider crypto academy as well. So I don't see any problems even if children join the forum. Not sure in the future if regulations force the implementation of this age verification; otherwise, it's unnecessary.
