I believe it is interesting when comes to societies in which gambling has become a common thing to partake in a daily basis, being Nigeria a very good example on how gambling and get embedded in an entire society. In that context, it is easier to see gambling as a side hustle, even though it is a not one.

Although playing for money is what we seek, we shouldn't see it as work, a secure income, or something where we can profit from it because gambling isn't about that. Gambling is an investment activity, but a dangerous one. In as much as I totally agree with you because for me too, gambling is not a side hustle and will never be, I still have to say that treating gambling as a side hustle or not still depends on individual gamblers and their reason for gambling.

For example, my reason for gambling may likely not be your own reason for gambling and as such, how I treat gambling and or seeing gambling may totally be different from how you see and treat gambling, for me, as someone who only gambles for fun and entertainment, I may likely see and treat gambling as one of the fun activities I usually will engage myself in, like sitting and watching a movie or even going to the cinema to watch a favourite movie, or going out to play football with friends or going out on a date with my crush.

The point is that, doesn't matter how much a gambler wishes to turn gambling into his side hustle, he can't, because the system was designed to work against him through the house edge feature. It's not possible to support business or other sources of income by gambling. This is a 2 sided coin. So depending on the individual. Gambling is a full time side hustle for some people.  They've made it a mandatory thing for them selves that they do. Infact subconsciously they play it because its registered in their mind and its hard to even leave them. Having main sources of income from other ways is needed so we can fill our needs including filling our gambling activity. You can consider it a side hustle if you earn a profit from it, just like people who take risks with trading and investing. However if your main goal isn’t profit, it’s better to treat it as a hobby rather than a side hustle.

I’m worried that if I treat my gambling hobby as a side hustle, it will put mental pressure on my mind to make a profit everytime I gamble. In reality, not everyone profits from gambling so right now, I just consider gambling a hobby that I do in my free time and nothing is forcing me to gamble.
