How can we help addicted gamblers recover

It's a norm how we discuss about gambling addiction, how to prevent it and/signs of addiction but we barely discuss on how to help those that are addicted gamblers recover or make responsible gambling decisions and there might be addicted gamblers here who needs this tips or you might know of an addict who needs it.
I am not a gamble addiction rehabilitator but I do know few tips that might be helpful.
Gambling addiction is caused by the belief that gamble can add up as a source of income so some of the tips to solving addiction is to:
1. first change the way the gambler sees gamble. You might need a lot of convincing to do that so if you truly want to help any addict you also need to be patient
2. Secondly since gamble addiction is a habit that has been formed overtime it would be very difficult to stop overnight however, you'll need to give them the right routine to do or practice in stead of gambling irresponsibly like, gambling with a budget and within certain time limit.
3. You also need to regularly check up on them and be nice to them so they feel loved because that's the only way they're going to adhere to your instructions
4. Lastly if they get comfortable gambling with budget then you can present them with other forms of entertainment in place of gamble to prevent them from having a change of thought and falling back to their previous situation.
But if the don't get comfortable gambling with budget then you might need to repeat the process again.

These are just my thought on how to stop gambling addiction but if you have any idea feel free to drop them.

Honestly, I feel that honesty is pretty effective. Like one time somebody called my friend a fat piece of shit and then all of a sudden they went and lost a shit ton of weight and actually made some shit happen. Now they are way more productive and actually get shit done. They don't drink and be lazy any more sitting on the couch instead they workout and get money and probably the bitches now too because their hard work paid off. Sometimes people need to hear the hard truth, like if you're addicted to gambling you're pretty much a sad fucking excuse for being God's greatest masterpiece. The first thing to do is to make up the mind of the gambler that he will abstain from gambling permanently. It was found that after abstaining from gambling for a week, he was attracted to gambling again. That is, first he has to plan and then he has to abstain from gambling according to the plan. We will always encourage him so that he does not get addicted to this bad addiction for the second time. We have to build friendship with him and encourage him in such a way that he develops hatred for gambling. We have to have an open discussion with his family and keep him in an environment where there is no opportunity to participate in gambling.

So they must on there own bring out there mind and this willingness will only happen when there is an enlightenment, if not the possibilities isn't there because to them they are on the right track and it will be very hard to advise someone who thinks that they are doing the right thing.

That's what I mean, helping someone with an addiction or trying to get them to sober isn't easy. Sometimes it can even be frustrating, and that's how I feel. I recovered from addiction myself, so I'm sure recovery from addiction can be done on your own, as long as you have a strong determination to recover. At first, we might try to help them, but as time goes by and there's no change, it's better to stop helping them and let them come to their senses. Even if they don't, that's their choice.

A lot of addicted gamblers put in effort to stop gambling addiction but they fail to do that, week can offer support if they have made up their mind to quit gambling addiction. 

If a gambler is not ready to help him or her self free from gambling addiction there's a very higher chances that his case will become or worse than ever. Gambling addiction is not something someone will just wake up to say and all of a sudden they will be free from it, no. If someone want to be free from gambling addiction they actually need to make up their mind. Even though you are willing to help an addicted gambler breaks free from addiction, so long as he or she haven't made up his or her mind to be free from it all your efforts will be a waste one.

Addiction is a very bad thing and it can become someone's behavior gradually in the sense that addiction starts little and later get to a higher level or point where it can not be controlled unless it is been fight against or through God's help. The best way to stay away from gambling addiction is, by not gambling regularly because there are people who has taken this gambling as a business or a way of making a living and it is very wrong because they are prone to addiction.

That is why they keep on asking that how many gamblers are actually gambling for fun? because it's obvious that gamblers are gambling to make a living through gambling. That is why gambling addiction is increasing because had it been gamblers are following the fun it would have been more safer to control ourselves from gambling addiction. So it's necessary for all gamblers to start preventing addiction because it is very easy to get out of it when you are still in the early stage.

Well, I agree with that, the most important thing for people with addiction is making the decision that they want to stop. If it’s only the desire of people around them, then it will either be temporary or last only as long as those people are controlling the person. But as soon as they are alone and have the opportunity, they will return to gambling. So all we can do is talk to the person and share our point of view, but the decision must always be made by them independently.

Friends can also be supportive if they want the good for their own friends, which you are right about what you said, which they are to help in encouraging them and advising them into how they can enjoy themselves in gambling without having any emotional issues and true,  trying to recover is not an easy thing but its a gradual process, which they will take things step by step and with time, they will recover from it. And make sure they gamble with the right mindset.

The addict must decide for themselves that they need help and want to begin the journey to quitting this habit. If they don't want to, no one can persuade them to take the path to recovery.

It wouldn't hurt for loved ones to approach the recovery process, but not harshly, but from a distance. Gently explain the harmfulness of gambling addiction and gradually guide the person to make their own decision.

No body can successfully help a man who refuses to be helped, like the other  user said and I also said in my previous post, an addicted gambler have to come to the realization that he is addicted and genuinely need help to come out of the addiction, this is the only time where anybody else can successfully help the gambler, because like it's commonly said, we can take a horse to the stream but we can't force it to drink water..

When you try to help someone who doesn't believe he or she needs help, in the end, you will realize that you are and were simply wasting your time, precious time you would have used to get some other much more important things and tasks done and completed, because like that popular scripture in the bible that asks us "can two work together except they agree?" indeed we can't help an addicted gambler who is in disagreement with us..

Yes, now most clinics believe that if they remove the symptoms of a problem gambler, it can pass as recovery. After all, his relatives will not see these signs. But will it be a pure and real healing? No. Because inside himself, the gambler must recognize the problem. This is what must awaken and change him.
A complete awareness of himself, in this problem here and now. That gambling has ruined his life and that he has now become addicted to it. It is from the decision and the gaymiller himself that the path to recovery begins, rather than from the fact that his relatives took him to a private clinic and the doctors accepted him there.

However, unfortunately, I have only seen this in movies. In real life, all recovery stories did not start with love, but with the gambler's intense pain. I am not referring to physical pain, but rather to the internal pain. This includes the loss of a loved one who suffered due to having an addicted gambler in their family. It also includes the pain of lying and losing money and possessions. In general, this is a long and difficult path.

Maybe you can talk to them private if you are a love ones like a husband or wife and try to convince them and to show that they are indeed a gambling addict.

That's what we call intervention. They should approach it very nicely so that the gamblers are not going to be negative about it. And who knows, maybe it will work in the long run if the gamblers sees his or her love ones making effort to help him recover or to quit gambling for good.

I have not heard any of my friends experiencing gambling addiction so I have no experience either to help or comfort an addicted gambler. But I know one thing is certain, any form of help should be done consistently, especially for addicted gamblers who are mostly in denial and acceptance hits too hard for them.

If we can let them understand that gambling addiction is not bad and its normal for most of the first time gamblers, then maybe we can convince them to admit to us their struggles and finally accept our help not because they are weak, but because they need us to recover from gambling addiction.

In fact, they are brave because they are silently battling addiction on their own, but they need to understand that they don't need to do it on their own, they have us as their support system to assist them on what they are going through.

Everyone is different, but imho best way to help someone who has made bad mistakes, or formed bad habits in the past, is to encourage them to do post-mortem for their actions that lead to it.
They need to analyze the thought mechanism that gets them addicted, because that helps them to develop tools to fight it.

Sadly that's one of the hardest things to do mentally, so they need a lot encouragement for that. Taking responsibility should be seen as an act of courage, like admitting that they failed. But it should include post-mortem analysis to underline that someone is serious about it.

Meanwhile, it helps not to tempt them to gambling. And for some people that's the priority, as financial recklessness and relapsing can put someone in the position whrere they can't recover on their own.

Even from my previous replies on this thread, I made it emphatically that we should always consider having interest in helping those that are in need or have ben affected through gambling addiction, while before we can do anything also have to depend on the strategy we are coming with, provided that The Gambler concerned also make everything work out by using to the same approach we are intending to use and them over their addiction they are struggling with.

Anyone that is gambling and fallen into addiction won't know about public criticism, and the moment their start noticing that then their withdrawal from gambling addiction have begun, this is the point where they as individuals will be self determined to walk out of their addiction, at that point whatever help he can get become very useful to them.

Often they become resistant to criticism and that is not a bad thing. But control over the gambling habit should be there unless which this criticism is useless. The gambler also needs to see from both angles from their side and from the outsiders side and then they will relize the problem they have fallen into.

This criticism is also a good thing, it can deter a person from gambling and indirectly control their habit as well.

It all comes down to moderation of the habit, if that is done properly then there is less problem.

I enjoyed every piece of your post until it got to the point where you brought in religion. I'm a Christian, but what I try not to do is restrian or help people by inducing my doctrine on them, whichever way. Just plain fact is okay. Listen, I get it that you're trying to help some people ( I seen a post related to this one, and you were just being cursive as well). Best way is for the addicted gambler to quit gambling because that is the only way out. You should know that it boils down to the gambler if he's determined to quit gambling or not. If he's not determined to come out from gambling addiction, all your efforts will be in vain.

If the gambler is willing to come out from addiction, he should replace his gambling activities with other sports or activities to keep him busy. If an addict doesn't quit gambling, it will be difficult for him to come out from addiction.

At first, I thought Op underestimate the task of helping someone out addiction but I think you assume this is easier to do than Op. Do you really think it's that easy to stop gambling all of a sudden? Even a normal gambler who's not yet addicted find it difficult to quit gambling talk more of someone who knows nothing other than gambling in his life. I agree with you that there's no magic both relatives and friends can perform to help the addict if he's not willing to change but at the same time, it's not easy to quit gambling just like that even if the addict is ready to let go. It's a thing of process and one must follow it gradually to achieve positive results at the end. If care is not taken, the addict might still go back to gambling again or something more disturbing than gambling.

It also includes the pain of lying and losing money and possessions. In general, this is a long and difficult path.

Love stories like that could be found amongst players in real life, due to how well the gamer feels about the woman. The most challenging aspect of this problem is how the loved ones tend to feel after the gamer can't be saved, or the problem of surviving with a thought like that, for the non gamblers, in the players midst. Some times loved ones get fed up in an intense situation, yet it's a terrible thing to undergo, so allowing the person unattended to could fetch additional expenses in the future when addiction is left to win over the person and cost them their sanity.

In as much I am totally in support of we finding a way to help every addicted gambler we come across so long as they will be willing to open themselves up to accept our offer to help, I will still like to say that for most levels of gambling addiction, the gamblers aren't as helpless to their own self as many of us will think or possibly assume..
I've personally met a lot of people who were once in their life addicted to gambling but when they got tired of the condition, they made took the bold step which will help them get free from the addiction and that was it, today they are free from the addiction.

I have to say that no matter our level of help to a gambling addict, it can never match of up to the help they have to render their own self as self cus this is what will determine if our own help is going to work out or not, cus like I did said in my previous comment that it's easy to take a horse to the stream but you can't force it to drink water, if someone we are helping isn't helping their self too, our help will be absolutely useless.

It's extremely difficult to resolve issues like these with an addicted gambler, when we try to do better, but instead end up codependent on them, which negatively impacts our lives. I've long understood that it's impossible to fully help such gamblers by doing everything possible, because often we won't see a single word of gratitude, and sometimes only comments about how we're interfering with their lives and so on. Nevertheless, I believe they should be encouraged to watch videos of gamblers who have overcome addiction and learn their stories, so they can watch these videos alone and reflect.
