Why Do Gamblers Always Think the Next Bet Will Fix Everything?

Have you ever said "just one more" and then stopped after that one? Or has that one more ever changed anything?

I did both of it, stopped for sometime and on other instances I continued. I think it's because we're egoistic gamblers. We've got pride to protect our egos and that's why we don't stop as soon as we lose. What we want is to take that pride which is our money from the losses that we've made. And it has been a common actions of gamblers that whenever we lose, we think that the next bets would be a lucky one. That's logical though because every time we're losing, there will be a time that we'll start to recover somehow from that bad times.

Some gamblers have the "fast money" mentality which in the end will tend to not work out in their favor.
At some point all gamblers have thought about hitting a huge jackpot to solve all their financial problems.
The reality is that it doesn't happen very often.

It's always the dream of hitting jackpot why gamblers stay betting despite of their consistent losses. They think if they are lucky enough to hit it, everything will end up perfectly. Sometimes the idea works and sometimes it doesn't, it even become worse when we have gone to far to give up. We even feel that the lose we had is too much to give up, and this lingers for long till we become trapped continually gambling and hoping to win even when their is no hope.

I think it's something deeper. The brain really believes that the next outcome will somehow negate the previous one. As if the universe owes you something.

If course the universe ows you alot, it ows you the loses you don't want to let go, which keeps you chasing loses till you become addicted.

Exactly. Human behavior and happiness is based deep down on hope in our roots, so big that some religions say that there is nothing more dangerous that long hope for life and everything. So hope is the root of gamblers behaving this way, even when they are near the end of their balance they keep hoping so until there is hope they are always gonna try one more time.

If you are gambling and you losing, don’t think one more gambling is going to fix things, it’s better you just take a rest and come back another time. Some people keep on saying one more time, they just going to keep on gambling, and they going to be losing. Mostly one more time always end up making you lose more money, just few people will be able to win when they try gambling one more time, and it won’t be always.

I guess that it's just part of the gambling experience because if everyone quit in their first trial and don't think about trying again then gambling will be very boring. What we should be concerned is responsible Gambling which has to do with knowing when to stop, a good financial management plan when it comes to gambling so you don't use money that was supposed to be used for other things for the purpose of gambling, in essence drawing a line when it comes to gambling is very important.

One more bet is what keeps most gambling in the game for long, it doesn't really matter whether they are winning or not the urge to keep going is completely natural, I would be more surprised by someone who says they don't feel the urge to keep going when they are gambling even when they know it's time to stop, one thing we need to understand is that just because you are able to stop yourself doesn't mean the urge to keep going wasn't there in the first place, wanting to keep going is natural, being able to stop yourself is what shows discipline.

It is a fact that this is exactly what our brain does. But the way this process plays out is somewhat different. The problem is that it is not natural for people to admit their mistakes and problems. It is human nature to “find” excuses for oneself and one’s problems, and to try to resolve them somehow.
The logic behind this behavior goes something like this:
I’ve lost XX times already... but it’s all just bad luck... many people win often and win big... I’ve simply fallen victim to a series of unfortunate events... I’ve lost a lot because of them, and I need to win it all back.... back to the beginning at the point “I’ve lost XX times already”

Your next paycheck can fix a lot of things, even if a opportunity presents itself you can borrow some money from anyone and promise to pay them back on your next paycheck, you are able to do this because it's salary.

You can't do the same with gambling, you can't take a loan and promise to pay your debt on your next gambling win, it might never happen, and on the long run your debts will pile up even more.

Do not make a promise or decision based on what you can win in gambling, it's all under probability, it might never happen.

Yes sometimes I did stoped and sometimes emotion got me greed won. I think it's not a bad thing untill you're losing a bigtime and affecting your bankroll. Even though I did gamble one more time it didn't exhaust me. I was able to gain my full control in this section. It really matter how well you're managing your bank roll. Even though your letting lose your emotion , gambling freak side sometimes it won't matter actually.

So you better drill these into you head properly. Lastly enjoy your gambling. Gambling doesn't always means automatically a bad thing.

My advice is not to let the emotions you feel and your greed become a habit. This will help you avoid significant losses.
I suggest this because I've experienced it myself, so you must set firm limits and treat gambling as just entertainment.

Gambling isn't inherently bad, the negative impacts of gambling arise from mistakes made by individuals one of which is underestimating the emotions that control them while gambling.

It's always like that for gamblers who are gambling for profits because even if you win the next bet, it doesn't mean that it will cover up for all your losses or will they stop gambling. Some gamblers are just too greedy that they see giving up on their losses as a weakness and they use that word to encourage themselves why they need to continue chasing their losses.

Every gambler needs to discipline himself and have self control on his gambling activities because if you don't, addiction will be the order of the day. Stop the game at the right time because it's not a must to make profit whenever, you are gambling.

I can agree with all you've said, also I think those who are new to the game would feel same way cause someone with experience of how gambling works should know that winning is not guaranteed on second trial and trying to recover what he lost is at his own risk. There's no harm in trying again but it shouldn't be immediately after a bet is lost which is what some gamblers don't understand.
 It's not like an awareness is not created concerning discipline or having self control, they all fall under responsible gambling and from my observation some platforms do encourage their customers toward gambling responsibly but greed is the major problem why they fail to heed to it.

It is the believe that they may get lucky if they keep on trying. There are so many other factors that may push a gambler to continue gambling even after several losses with the hope that there next bet is going to fix everything. Greed may not be part of it, some times is because they are trapped and they have no other options but to keep betting, in this instance all there trust is now on luck. This usually happens as a result of gambling with more than what we can afford to lose. In this kind of situation quitting will become a problem instead we begin to hope that luck should be on our side so that we can be able to recover what we have lost.

Hmmm, based on my experience, I think the main reason is that they don't want to end their session losing money that's why they'll try to recover those losses instead of just stopping and call it a day.

I have this kind of experience back then where I already lost half of my capital in making some sports bets, but instead of stopping, I tried to find a sport that's also happening on that day, and put a bet on it as well. It's also basketball back then, but in our country. I went all in, put a bet on the team that I thought will win, and I want to recover some of my losses back then. I end up losing all of my capital in just a single instead of just losing half if I stopped betting on that day.

Well, I stopped after that "one" because I don't have money to use after that.

There is nothing about gambling one more time, and if you want to do so, you need to have a reason why. If gambling one more time was a plan, but you never planned for it and you are not gambling with the amount that you can afford to lose, then there is no need to continue or play a game.

It happened to me in several occasions when I tried to recover my losses, I couldn't instead I was still loosing more bets instead of winning.
