Why Do Gamblers Always Think the Next Bet Will Fix Everything?

Most gamblers have experienced this. You're feeling down. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. And instead of shutting down and stopping, you find yourself thinking, "just one more." This time it will be different. This time it will fix it.

Like I said in one of the topics that I started a while ago, although this is not beneficial in gambling, it is one of the positive attributes that can be developed from gambling that is positivity to keep going even in the face of failure.

If an individual could adopt such a mindset from gambling and apply it to life as well as chase their goals, they would be unstoppable because they would not stop in the face of failure but would keep going until success is achieved.

The best idea for achieving success is to never give up no matter the circumstances, we can't really expect success without trying, we can't expect success without working hard, and also we can't expect success without falling or facing challenges and overcoming those challenges. Exactly, everyone loves winning and always avoid the smell of loss, talkless of experiencing it. But they are still women and family who will definitely care if the husband or father want to use their money to gamble, because they will be afraid that the husband might end up losing, sometimes it's hard for some gamblers to achieve success and be successful in gambling and this is actually a good example which shows that gambling doesn't guarantee success or becoming wealthy.

That is because we don't want to be losers, we don't want to go to our beds and sleep with those losses. And so, we don't stop from gambling until we get a win. Even a break even or just a few recovery of those losses, we're already fine with it. With that thinking that the next bets will fix everything, will recover some of our losses is never gone to a gamblers mind. We have an idea why others are always thinking like that. They have never stop from doing these recovery stunts even we know that more losses could come in it, that's the counterpart of this action.

Yes you are right, and having this kind of mindset often makes them to have the hope of making it up to themselves by recovering their losses with the next bet, which their emotions has make them to that way, even when they know they are not that sure about it but as too weak to make decisions that will have to benefit them.

This mindset is actually a trap but they don't realize it untill it is too late, one thing I have learnt from gambling is that a mistake that is made cannot be fixed by gambling more, even though you manage to recover your losses there is a high chance that you might still end up losing more than that.

It's a human nature to believe next time will be different, just another try and it might change everything. Unable to accept the situation is one of the reason why many gamblers can't stop. The thought of winning in gambling but didn't happened is certainly disappointing to gamblers who play with a mindset of doubling their money.

Yes but it didn't stop there, not until I drained my funds. Thus, if you think you're not lucky for that day, just refrain from playing because you're just letting yourself to lose more.

The next trade most likely will not fix anything and if it does, the gambler will want to bet that again too. I have been in a position like that where I lost and wanted to regain and lost again. If you really want to recover, it's best you eliminate the mindset of recovering and just do your thing.

I believe the brain has a mechanism that wants to protect us from hurt. With that in mind a win will cancel a loss thereby creating a sense of security in us.

Being smart doesn't stop you from doing things that will hurt you. Smart people even tend to fall more deeply into it.

Is there any practical steps one can take to stop it?

The reason for this belief os due to the fact that the next bet is up to luck as there is ALWAYS a chance for the next bet to end up as a win. There is a traditional game I loved playing as a child and it involves rolling of dice and even though you keep rolling numbers you don't need, you've to keep rolling because there is always a chance that the next dice roll might be in your favour. It's exactly the same reason why everyone thinks the next bet will be the one that wipes all previous losses.

I try to understand why this happens. And I don't think it's stupidity. Smart people fall into this trap too.

I think it's something deeper. The brain really believes that the next outcome will somehow negate the previous one. As if the universe owes you something.

"one more" has never really changed any thing for me so long as it gambling we are talking about, but this is a psychological issue that I believe is normal for every gambler, this is not something that is peculiar to one person or a certain group of gamblers alone, every gambler will go through this very experience and it's from there we decide how to deal with it individually.

For me, I have mastered the act of nothing paying attention to this voice when ever it comes talking to me about giving a game I've already given up on one more try or one more spin, because this is something a lot of experience have forced me to know and master how it all works, so when I want to quit and that voice comes telling me to give one more spin and every thing will change, I don't listen, I go ahead and simply quit.

It's always the hope for me, gamblers tend to try the risk and check their luck, since gambling is really a test for luck. Gamblers don't win their games simply by seeing lots of gambling winners, and losing don't also happen by seeing lots of losers, winning or losing in and from gambling is simply a product of either being lukcy or unlucky.

Gambling is quite different and works differently from all this laws of the universe where we are being made to understand that as a man thinketh and or sees from his heart, so he is and will become in the physical, laws like this may work in other places but definitely not in gambling, and this is because the house edge of any casino you choose to gamble is already against you winning, so no matter how positive you see your self as, you will need to be very lucky to win.

It is the foundation of human nature and why gambling is known as one of the earliest human vices. Since history books started you will find references to betting in different forms, because it it meant to be entertainment. There's an element of luck and wanting to be "the one who beats the odds" which is quite an arrogant viewpoint but we are highly egotistical creatures. Combine that with a feeling that somehow the casino is building up a debt and somehow "owes" the gambler a pay out at some point. That's not how the odds really works they have no emotion and each bet is generally completely disconnected from any other bet on casino games - they reset each time you play.

I believe this occurs because gamblers feel emotional stress during losses and they think making one more bet will relieve that stress. It's no fun feeling like you lost the day, so your brain begins to seek revenge on your losses. Unfortunately, this can turn gambling into an attempt to seek revenge for losses. Rather than moving on from a bad day, some gamblers believe the next time will be better. More often than not, this results in greater losses as emotions override rational thinking and bankroll management.

It is always a way for gamblers to boost their confidence because their ego is too high to admit that what they did was wrong.  They know that what they are doing is putting them at great risk but the pressure of a strong ego and always assuming that the next bet will always give victory after defeat makes them think that they have not won because they have not gambled with all out so they will not care and will continue to gamble until their false shadow is obtained even though it is a way of gambling mentally draining us to make us continue to gamble until we spend the money we have.

Most gamblers who are already in addiction will feel this way when we are too intense in gambling which in the end this actually makes us feel that what we do in gambling is always right and when the results do not match the expected expectations then the gambler will try to find other reasons so that their actions can be justified.

Leaving luck to chance is essentially the same thing that is, luck refers to events that occur by chance and “leaving it to chance” here implies that a player has given up on the bet they placed.
Indirectly, this illustrates that the player had high hopes for the gamble, but since a win never materialized they have completely given up and are relying entirely on luck.
And thinking that the next bet will turn things around can also be seen as one of the ways people act based on the concept of hoping for a gambling win.
