Why Do Gamblers Always Think the Next Bet Will Fix Everything?

Even in our worst times of incurred losses in whatever we do, we as humans do have this belief to have a try one last time before we finally quit, maybe luck would shine on us to recover some part of the loss incurred.

I don't think it is greedy to say as some people think. I think it is not accepting defeat totally. Some people find it difficult to accept defeat in any way. They keep giving their last shots in whichever they can, hoping a good result outcome

I think the issue here isn’t that it’s hard to accept a loss, because if you keep ignoring the obvious and continue playing just because you don’t want to accept that loss, it won’t change anything for you. If you can’t make money from gambling, your persistence won’t fix it. When I newly started gambling, I won't say I didn't have this feeling because I did, I was playing and sometimes when I want to take a break from playing at that moment, I might just hear an inner voice telling me that I should try the last hand and even when I do, it might still end up bad until I exhaust my money before I will finally leave. I've definitely been in that situation, and you could even say I've been in that situation many times before, because I was addicted to "one more time, one more time," and so on, and without realizing it, all my money was gone instead of getting what I initially hoped for. But that's how gambling works, draining gamblers' money.

Personally, I see it as a man-made excuse that in spite of all losses, there will always be a big hope to win that could cover everything and gain back all the misfortune that a gambler experienced. You experience the same thing as most gamblers, certainly including myself,   that's how it is because gambling is designed to manipulate our brains, not accepting defeat is the beginning of disaster because as long as we still have money, we willingly chase it again, knowing it's wrong, even though I've become a better gambler, I admit I still make mistakes sometimes. It's true that this feeling of trying more but end up trying multiple times is very common among gamblers, but at times gamblers need to learn how to stick to their decision because if you make a decision without sticking to it, it means that you're not discipline enough because for the fact that other gamblers are also doing it I mean not sticking to their decision doesn't mean it's normal rather it's lack of discipline.

Yes, it is a bad thing to do, to keep on putting the hope on the "next bet" ti fix everything, since this act is chasing losses.  Chasing losses is like giving away your fortune.  No one knows whether the next bet will give us a huge win, but most of the time we observed that the result of betting one more time often leads to chains of one more time until our bankroll is depleted.  

I do not think this is just an excuse to gamble more, but more likely the person is in a psychological trap that keeps on looping.  It is very hard to get away or break free from this trap because the thought of missing out is engulfing the person's mind.  Greed triggers, and revenge gambling are activated, if we are trapped by these two, we will end up spending the last bit of our money on gambling.

For what I understand is that also all the time that the gamblers thinks like this is because of maybe some good performance or outcome that he  has experience before. A gambler replys on hope and that's something you can take away from them and it gets so crazy because this is what actually clouds their judgement and you totally forget that their is no way possible that you would get winning after losing big even when you think only about winning or to replicate the good times when you had won before. This is the mindset of addicted gamblers. If you are addicted to gambling, each time you loose a bet, you find fault in your first strategy, and your feeling will be that, you will correct your mistake in your second bet, and this mistake will continue until you loose all your money.

I think this has to be biggest challenge some gamblers have, finding it difficult to accept their losses and move on from it makes them chase constantly which leads to more losses in the long run. Even though there is a possibility of recovering what you have lost by chasing this doesn't change the fact that it is risky and overtime it could lead to gambling addiction. Chasing losses doesn't end well most times.

All gamblers are at different moments caught up in this unattainable madness of trying again and again in continuity with a hopeless situation that under rational thoughts it is patent that you should quit and make it back  to the game in another day.

It most reside with newly gamblers but infrequently there are old gamblers that for their greed are subjected to this behaviour and are addicted but do not know they have addiction problem.

you are correct. Those who have issues with gambling irresponsibly are the newbies because they are mostly those who have issues with their adrenaline rush. It becomes even worse when the person’s first game recorded some good wins maybe in his first try or second. It makes it worse and worse if they are not careful. Gambling can be tricky too for those who are not deeply involved in it. I used to see gambling as a form of witchcraft before and gamblers as witches and wizards especially when you watch casino games in movies. The action in them used to be intense and mad.
