We can of course blame the government and corrupt politicians who are supposed to lead with good examples, but they have become corrupted by god-fatherism and personal interest because of the system already in place that can hardly be changed.

We can only do better if the system is changed and those old stumbling blocks as god fathers are exiled from this world. Else, we would remain and fall prey to same system irrespective of the new leaders we usher in or elect on our behalf to lead us, which makes up the government.

government budget and allocation to state aren't the only yardstick to know if the are responsible for a nations bad economy or not, yes the government allocate funds to state government but many of the time this funds are mismanaged by the state government which are also part the three arms of the government.
Also economic hardship Is as a result of the government bad policies and choices, the federal government projects are abandoned, natural resources are mismanaged, employment is low and many more.

If the government is corrupt, you don't expect good services. We as people know what is better and if the government is good or bad. Only people who believe in blind politics are in denial if the government is such bad in their governance. So, yes, it is the government which is solely responsible for the economy of a country. If there are no investors, it means that there's no potential or the investors can't accept that the peace and order isn't prioritized by the government. Because how can an investor or a businessman starts a business in an area where it's full of crimes.

In all honesty, the government does carry a big responsibility, because they control budget, policies and how money moves in the country. But at the same time, citizens and private sectors also add to the problem in different ways. A clear example in Nigeria right now, the government announces budgets and talks about economic reforms, but instead of focusing fully on fixing inflation, power and food prices, you still see politicians entering full campaign mode, organizing rallies and political meetings everywhere. Meanwhile, things like fuel price, transport fare and school fees keep going up daily. Two things to take away from your post here are job opportunities and self reliance.

To have a healthy economy, government should ensure they reduce the number of employment to the barest minimum. When every citizen is engaged in one way or the other, they become productive to the society and more activities give birth to growing economy. Of course, government can not provide job for all her citizens at a time but at least they should pave way for people by ensuring the safety of their investment and assets through their policies.

Economy becomes stagnant when everyone rely on government to cater for them. We have been in a death row in Nigeria for long period of time than I can remember, with the increased FAAC allocations, the state government are not doing anything, they are still spending more than the state is getting and they are borrowing more without any means of pay back, this is because we have states that are filled without industrialization, just common petty trades and local tax, these things doesn't grow economy, it's reverse the economy to poverty.

I hope you know that this government has borrowed more than what previous government has borrowed for 32 years in their office in just 3 years, this alone is enough to.grll you that a government can destroy the economy and the same government is fighting hard to get into the office for another tennure again.
