In Nigeria today all politicians have forgotten the main reason for getting into public offices but placed there selfishness in place of there primary reasons for been elected.  Originally, all political representatives are elected into power to serve and obey all the laws of the country but because of the corrupt mindset the exists in them they choose wickedness over that primary reason.

Nowadays, public office (elective and otherwise) now goes with the drive for popularity! The case of politicians are so painful that this popularity gives them more joy than the accomplishment of their duty as public servants.
They even drag the media with celebrities.

One of the clear reasons some politicians behave this way is because many citizens keep encouraging them. They give people peanuts in the name of salaries, palliatives or handouts and some people will still defend them no matter how badly they perform. The moment anyone asks questions or demands accountability, their supporters quickly come out with insults and intimidation instead of addressing the real issues. Politicians are supposed to be public servants, not celebrities. Their job is to serve the people and be accountable for their actions. Unfortunately, many have forgotten that because some citizens treat them like untouchable superstars instead of elected officials.

Yes, we the citizens has some fault in this too. But the system has deemed us to the level of  hardship that we can't even question things anymore. We cheer them thinking that they will do something good for the entire nation (interms of infrastructures, employment, quality of life) ,not knowing that, these politicians are only after their personal interest. In this country we praise mediocrity as if it were excellence.  The hardship made us to forget our  place and right as citizens, whereby we have the power to demand for a change.  But these people have used the hardship as  a tool to supress us significantly, whereby they even bribe us with palliatives, money just to  buy our votes and trust.  We are literally the cause of our problems at times, if we have a sense of dignity to choose the right people to lead us , all these publicity in which these so called politicians do will stop. Only in Nigeria will a politicians be showing off his rich lifestyle  to we the citizens ( instead of the projects and amenities done), after they have  siphoned the public funds, yet we will still be praising  them.

Once you are a politician and you are elected into any political office, you will appear in the media often because the media will help you reach the people you are representing which will help you know what they need. Very true, the rate of deviation from duties by politicians is really alarming, none of them is bordered about serving anymore, some assume political positions just because of fame, they have no compassion for the masses, they ain’t bothered about service it’s just to loot money so they alone will continue being relevant, in Nigeria immediately a politician win he will start campaigning for his next administration throughout the current administration, like they are more interested in winning and staying famous than good governance.

Nigeria is really in a mess and the way things are going only a revolution can change things because politicians no longer care about the masses, u will see as common as a counselor driving all manner of clean cars from ill gotten money that is suppose to be for the people.

It is a common thing in Nigeria, most holders of public offices don't know their responsibilities. The only time they show commitment to discharging their duties are during election periods and that is for media capture since most of those relief materials don't reach the intended beneficiaries. the government officials in this country lost direction a long time ago and that is why we need to collectively effect a change in our leaders starting from the top come next year.

If you look at the system and how it's been operated you know that the politicians are only following an existing protocol and can't deviate from it because that's how the governance of Nigeria have always been and nobody want to change the narrative in other not to offend their godfathers who might have handpicked them and given power, our leaders knows exactly what to do to make this country work but because of greed and embezzlement of funds that they are doing they pay less concern about it and don't care about the welfare of the people.

The ideology of everyone in the corridors of power is to steal and be rich and that's why we are still backwards when it comes to the development of the country, like you have said it's during elections period that you see see them sharing rice and going to eat with the orphanages and taking pictures just to secure sympathy votes, they know their civil responsibilities but they choose not to do it just to suffer the citizens.

Constitutionally the right and power of all in a country is clearly recognised but due to one reason or the other many especially political representatives exceeds there Constitutional right just because the system have been manipulated and twisted by the presence of corruption and nothing more.
In Nigeria today leaders go as fear as converting all meant for the development of the country to there personal assets and are in know where questioned because of the corrupt shed they have created all in the name of leadership system in the country.  To make leaders know there limits, we need to stand with all strength it may not be violently but by voting out corrupt leaders for transparency to take its place in the country.
