Are Responsible Gamblers Still Misunderstood?

I don’t blame anyone who thinks or talk such about gamblers , gambling has done more harm than good to some people, and I don’t even have energy to convince anyone who think that way , trust me it’s going to be hard for them to believe that  there still responsible gamblers , people like generalize things , just because they see someone made a mistake, they believe others are the same or can even do worst , so if anyone talk to me in such a manner I don’t  think I will defend myself but my attitude will prove that I’m not an irresponsible gambler , people only need time to understand things.

Most times people make judgement on others based on how they understand things instead of what is actually happening, this makes them to make mistake as they judge people for being what they are not. Many times I have been mistaken to be an irresponsible gambler but I have always tried my best to be responsible when gambling. Irresponsible gamblers are of the majority hence a lot of people classify everybody that is gambling as an irresponsible or addicted gambler which is not the truth. When this happen I don't try to confront people or try to prove myself instead I allow time to let them understand the true identity of my gambling behaviour.

People like generalizing stuff , the more you try to convince them the more they gave you more reasons why the think the way they do , to me if you know your gambling activities are not bad or you aren’t an irresponsible gambler, no point of proving a point to anyone, just do what works for you , changing one’s perspective us not easy, I have learnt that most humans doesn’t want to understand things before judging and if you keep on waiting for validation, one many possible lose himself trying to convince people on what is truth .

This makes sense, there are really people like this, overreacting or not minding their own business! Maybe they also have some personal experiences, bad or good, that make them busy with other people instead of doing themselves.
I already met a lot of different people, including this, like any things you will do, some will still have something to say on it. That's why even how we will tell different people has different purposes while they are gambling, they stilll dont understand that.

Indeed every gamblers do have their motives for gambling and we all gets that which we really craves for except for as many that are thoughtful of treating it as a source of income who at the accountability of their gambling records realizes lately that they are loosing more than they wins.

There are still those who have their motives of gambling for fun who also loses more than they wins and don't have it problematic while they are also aware about the risk of chasing profits or loses like the other people will always require betting with larger bankrolls and don't even care about their past records because they only bets with what they can afford to loose.

I could not agree more,,, consider it a pasttime, spend a few minutes a day or an hour a week or whatever, never see it as a way to make money and you are not just responsible you are happy.

They are to play the game and enjoy every bit of it, but let it be done in a responsible way and not in a way that they will want to take it or treat it as a means of earning from it. Gambling in a responsible way keeps them game enjoyable without having to pass any stress of chasing after their losses and regrets or disappointment, as it also protects them from disasters that will have to destroy their lives and hurt them more.

This is what some gamblers don't get right, they forget that if you are gambling because of profit, you wouldn't enjoy the game because your emotions with the attached to your decisions and when you lose, you will continue to chaser your losses till you empty your bankroll if you fail to stop before then.

How do you respond to people who say this or think this way about gambling?

Perception is everything and I see gambling as an entertainment medium that also offers prize money its like going to the carnival and playing games, if you win, you get prizes. Now of course the addiction consequences are not the same but then again it fully depends on the individual and well, self discipline. So when your perception of gambling shifts from entertainment and gradually turns into expectation, like once you stops seeing it as something done for fun and begin to rely on it as a way to make money consistently, your emotions and pressure can start taking over and you will lose yourself to forever chasing the win.

Provided that they are not the ones funding me neither do I serve as a dependant to that person then it makes no need for me to give any explanations and not even a prove by how am dealing with my gambling.

There are people that are wasting money in other real life issues they are committed to which could be worst more than what an average disciplined gambler may be spending on gambling monthly, but just cause the word GAMBLING is involved it becomes an automatic red flag that they want to judge.

There are many people who have profited from gambling and still a good number of people who gambling has wrecked their lives. The difference between these two is "consciousness" of the dangers of gambling and the discipline to stop after multiple failed bets.

This is exactly how addiction begins and people would start with all sort of advise and sometimes prayers like its a spiritual problem. Gambling is seen as a wrecker to many people and a life changer to others, its safe when you have the dangers of gambling in mind and play safe to avoid more losses than you can afford.

If they knew, they have an image of me as a bad guy addicted and wasting his life.

I don't even advice anyone to think of gambling as a side hustle because it cannot really be relied on in the slightest way, for me I don't take it as a means of earning money either as a side hustle or a main job, it is just a means of entertainment and if I end up making profit from it then that is going to be a bonus to me. Gambling as a side hustle means that there's a level of expectation involved.

Being a responsible gambler is possible but not always. Being responsible will reduce losses and keep the situation under control. But from what I understand, many gamblers gamble to make money and even if they win, the loss rate is high. That's why I think, instead of always having fun through gambling, we should find other avenues. For example: football, cricket, basketball, hockey etc. However, there is a risk of becoming addicted to gambling. Which is not a good sign for any gambler.
