Are Responsible Gamblers Still Misunderstood?

I don’t blame anyone who thinks or talk such about gamblers , gambling has done more harm than good to some people, and I don’t even have energy to convince anyone who think that way , trust me it’s going to be hard for them to believe that  there still responsible gamblers , people like generalize things , just because they see someone made a mistake, they believe others are the same or can even do worst , so if anyone talk to me in such a manner I don’t  think I will defend myself but my attitude will prove that I’m not an irresponsible gambler , people only need time to understand things.

Most times people make judgement on others based on how they understand things instead of what is actually happening, this makes them to make mistake as they judge people for being what they are not. Many times I have been mistaken to be an irresponsible gambler but I have always tried my best to be responsible when gambling. Irresponsible gamblers are of the majority hence a lot of people classify everybody that is gambling as an irresponsible or addicted gambler which is not the truth. When this happen I don't try to confront people or try to prove myself instead I allow time to let them understand the true identity of my gambling behaviour.

People like generalizing stuff , the more you try to convince them the more they gave you more reasons why the think the way they do , to me if you know your gambling activities are not bad or you aren’t an irresponsible gambler, no point of proving a point to anyone, just do what works for you , changing one’s perspective us not easy, I have learnt that most humans doesn’t want to understand things before judging and if you keep on waiting for validation, one many possible lose himself trying to convince people on what is truth .

This makes sense, there are really people like this, overreacting or not minding their own business! Maybe they also have some personal experiences, bad or good, that make them busy with other people instead of doing themselves.
I already met a lot of different people, including this, like any things you will do, some will still have something to say on it. That's why even how we will tell different people has different purposes while they are gambling, they stilll dont understand that.

Indeed every gamblers do have their motives for gambling and we all gets that which we really craves for except for as many that are thoughtful of treating it as a source of income who at the accountability of their gambling records realizes lately that they are loosing more than they wins.

There are still those who have their motives of gambling for fun who also loses more than they wins and don't have it problematic while they are also aware about the risk of chasing profits or loses like the other people will always require betting with larger bankrolls and don't even care about their past records because they only bets with what they can afford to loose.

I could not agree more,,, consider it a pasttime, spend a few minutes a day or an hour a week or whatever, never see it as a way to make money and you are not just responsible you are happy.

Perception is everything and I see gambling as an entertainment medium that also offers prize money its like going to the carnival and playing games, if you win, you get prizes. Now of course the addiction consequences are not the same but then again it fully depends on the individual and well, self discipline. So when your perception of gambling shifts from entertainment and gradually turns into expectation, like once you stops seeing it as something done for fun and begin to rely on it as a way to make money consistently, your emotions and pressure can start taking over and you will lose yourself to forever chasing the win.

There are people that are wasting money in other real life issues they are committed to which could be worst more than what an average disciplined gambler may be spending on gambling monthly, but just cause the word GAMBLING is involved it becomes an automatic red flag that they want to judge.

The main thing is that we have to play for fun, we have to control our financial capabilities, we have to control our actions. The fact that there is a loss in gambling cannot be ignored, no matter how limited you gamble, you will lose, but accepting this loss and refraining from excessive gambling is the true responsible gambling. That is why it is very wrong to think of gambling as a means of guaranteed income, you have to be careful and then gamble, and in any case, you have to protect yourself from big losses, and be it casino or sports.

We should just make a decision to gamble responsibly and just enjoy ourselves because if you're looking for people's validation to give you a pass mark you can never please everybody. No matter what you do some people will still misunderstand you so what is the need of trying to prove to everybody that responsible gambling is possible, inasmuch as you are not begging anybody money to gamble and take care of your responsibilities. If people that condemns gambling knows that you gamble and you're a responsible person I don't think that you have to do anything extraordinary to convince them, whatever you do try to be a responsible person.

First of all, i’d probably just listen quietly. As long as the advice given is sound and well presented, there’s no problem with that, because that reflects their beliefs about gambling. It’s possible that after seeing so many people whose lives have been ruined by gambling, they don’t want our lives to end up just as tragically. Ultimately, i see it as a concern. I might just reply, “Alright, thanks for the advice” without needing to explain everything in detail, that would just be a waste of time.

Everyone is gets involved in gambling is surely under the risk of getting addicted, this is because gambling naturally has an addictive nature and it takes a great deal of self control and discipline to be able to avoid walking that lane. It’s true that a lot of gamblers gamble for the money, and not like there’s really anything wrong with that, but we must understand that gambling for money automatically increases that risk of addiction, and while gambling for fun may not automatically eliminate the risk of addiction, it makes the risk minimal and easy to manage.

It is common, for those who cannot accept gambling as entertainment and fun, gambling is simply bad, but they do not understand what the main purpose of gambling is, gambling is just for entertainment, so if a gambler accepts it as entertainment only, then what is the problem? This is the main point, this is something that everyone should understand, accept gambling as entertainment, then it will never be a cause of any problem, if only it can be kept under control.

I know most of us here are gamblers, but what if one day someone close to you says this, maybe your family or friends. And let’s say you are a gambler who has not faced any serious problem from gambling, and you believe you are a responsible gambler.

Would you try to educate them and explain that not all gamblers are addicted or irresponsible? Or would you just ignore it because they already have a fixed mindset about gambling?

Honestly it depends, if it's someone that can easily get hurt, I would rather not hurt their feelings by first hearing their views about gambling then use that to build a narrative to share notes and see gambling for what it is..

For me, I think it depends on the person. If they are just concerned about me, I would probably explain my side calmly. I would tell them that I understand why they think that way, because gambling has ruined many people’s lives. But at the same time, not everyone who gambles is destroying their life.

Some people gamble for fun, with limits, and without using money meant for important things. But if the person is already closed-minded and only wants to judge, then maybe there is no need to argue. Sometimes it is better to let your actions prove that you are still in control.

Sometimes experience is the best teacher and not a bad idea for them to go through this, but honestly if you have had that experience yourself, why not shield them from this kind of heartbreak because gambling addiction is not something easy to fight!

Only that not everyone is interested in the fun aspect of gambling, yeah, not everyone is out there to have fun, some if not most of the gamblers today are solely gambling for the profits, so they clearly don’t care more or less about having fun. And honestly, these set of gamblers should be prepared for whatever that comes since they’re not playing by the rules. I understand people criticising gambling because of how much they lost but why are we defending gambling? It’s true that no one wants to be associated with things that other gamblers do that another person is not doing and it’s completely natural and fair. People develope a subconscious thinking about things that happen around them and if they have seen it in a positive way they will defend/support it and if they have seen it mostly in a negative way then they will oppose/criticise it. Most of the people thet hear about gambling is how a person lost his whole house and how his family is bankrupt, there are very rare cases that people succeed, so I don’t see any reason people supporting gambling with such low success rate.talking about other bad habits associated with gamblers then they have to bear it because minority is treated and seen as how the majority of that same group is, so majority of gamblers are the people that try to escape life by gambling uncontrollably and is not unique thet minority are seen as them too.

I will tell the person that he is right, but I will further it with saying that I am only doing it for fun and that I always advise people to do it for fun and not a way of making money. Gambling addiction is not good, I do not want anyone to be in such situation, so I will see what the person said to be true, but we have exceptions.

Not every gambler are irresponsible, some gamblers are very responsible, but many times people see gamblers are being irresponsible, but that is not the real truth. If you are in a place where people or your friends, and relations see all gamblers as irresponsible, I think you have to clarify them by letting them know that not all gamblers are irresponsible. Is only when you allow gambling to have full control over you that you can be considered as irresponsible, but when you have full control of how you gamble, and can control your emotions, and don't allow gambling to affect you negatively, then you are considered a responsible gambler.
