I would not be surprised if they get cleared of most of the charges and only get a small fine as punishment. We could have really used a point deduction years ago when Arsenal were trailing behind City for the premier league title. Anyway judgement was bound to come at some point, I suspect that’s part of the reason Pep resigned and Haaland is allegedly looking to sign for Madrid.
If that is the turnout of this situation, then it would be an embarrassment for the Premier League. Here we're not talking about a single small charge, we're talking about 114 charges confirmed out of 115. I was expecting City to be charged with maybe 20 or 30% of those charges, not 100%. This situation is huge, and there is no turnaround at this point, they either give them a very serious punishment otherwise the Federation will look like completely useless, powerless. Manchester city violated way too much of the FFP rules and this has been going on for a long time, I’m beginning to think they were doing it deliberately because they’ve been warned several times but season after season they continue to violate the FFP rules. At this point there’s no better sanction that will suit the magnitude of the offense and charges against them than to expel them from the premier league, not just striping them off the titles they won cheating. They caused most premier league clubs some financial losses especially those who couldn’t make it to the champions league during those seasons of cheating and good a thing some premier league clubs are pressing legal charges against Manchester City for financial loses related to failure to qualify for the champions league during those era.

It is good you brought this up again. I can't really remember when last I heard this matter. And it is only from this your thread that I am remembering this case again. And as you said, they will have a soft landing judgement with a fine. I strongly believed that they will be fined with additional punishment of either of the mentioned you made. Manchester City management tok is waiting for the outcome by now to know their faith.
It's all over the internet, I read in on twitter and other sport sites , the law is law, if they are found guilty that have to bear the punishment as a lesson to others, I'll beg they handle this matter with all honesty and be smart, to retrieve them some Premier leagues title is absolutely wrong to me, I see some Manchester United supporters and Arsenal Supporters celebrating the verdict that most of Manchester city title will be given to them if the punishment stay. Manchester city should face transfer ban and pints deduction that will be fair enough than title retrieve.

My post you quoted was made in June. A lot has changed since then, Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 out of the 115 charges. Although there hasn’t been a punishment yet (you can imagine why it’s not so straight forward). Manchester City are already gearing up to appeal the ruling and even though I would like those cheats (Pep included) to be stripped of their titles, I doubt we will see more than a 20 point deduction and fine as punishment.
In most legal cases, judgment and sentencing are done on different days. If an individual or organisation si found guilty, the judges need to deliberate on the punishment that will be handed out, and it takes some time for that to happen. In the case of Manchester City, the exact sentencing or sanction date has not been fixed. The club has fourteen days to appeal the judgement, and I am sure they would do that. The owner of the club is from the United Arab Emirates. There have been accusations that the English goverment targets clubs owned by foreigners. Emirati royal Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan would need to gather enough political support to avoid a harsh punishment against City. Especially in the case of a big club like Manchester City, there are a lot of financial information, rules and legal issues to be verified. So naturally it will take more time. People just talk and think about what the punishment will be in such cases. But they forget that the whole process of giving punishment is not easy, especially since we are talking about a big club like Manchester City. Moreover, proving the accusation and giving punishment are two different things. I personally do not want to say that any party is completely guilty or innocent, but it is better to wait until the official decision comes. If a club breaks the rules, they must be punished.

I was getting a fresh of these cases for City to answer, but I think it's unfair to punish a team that wasn't even around when all these financial irregularities were happening.. Pep is gone alone with other players that have transferred out of the team and some retired.. honestly reaching a judgment in this case isn't as easy as it looks especially that Citeh can appeal that can prolong the final verdict.

I never knew this case was still lingering not until yesterday I saw the discussion in the forum again. They will get a soft punishment but I doubt if they’ll escape all this allegation without going unpunished. Just because Pep has left and some other players during when all this was committed, it doesn’t mean the team will go unpunished. They’ll have to face the repercussions of what their predecessors have done which is not in line with the regulation of the premier league. Manchester City is a big team and a point deduction will not really affect their stance seriously, they’ll get over it seeing how they’ve been performing so well this season achieving 100% victory in all games played so far.

Despite the number of charges politics might come into play in this case, Man city currently is among the biggest clubs in the world and deducting huge points from them that could relegate them to the championship won’t do the football community any good, first the team will lose lots of fans and sponsors which in turn will affect the English football revenue and the football governing board won’t want that since Man city is amongst there top teams.
If Manchester City get relegated, they will be back to the premier league in the next season so it is not really a big loss to the PL. Any “big club” in the premier league should be able to boast of a loyal fanbase that can stay with club in the championship for just one season. How many years did it take for the PL to reach a verdict? When City appeals, it’s going to take another decade for the case to be over.

So I think that even though they violated these rules, expelling them from the Premier League and stripping their titles is just too much. Maybe what could be done to them is to give fines, perhaps a transfer ban, and also point deductions during the ongoing season, so they have to fight from the relegation zone. But that's just my opinion, the final decision is still in the hands of the independent appeals committee because they are more capable of giving the appropriate punishment to Manchester City.

Mate, each EPL rule is important. A club that breaks the rule will face the punishment. No rule is too small, and no rule is too big. The consequences for match-fixing are equivalent to the punishment that should be given to Manchester City for breaking the financial rule. In fact, breaking the financial rule allowed Manchester City to afford to buy the best players in the league consecutively for 7 seasons and counting. That's a lot of cheating. Match-fixing is a less offensive offense compared to cheating to win multiple league titles when another club is genuinely transparent regarding their finances.

I also feel that Manchester city punishment should be based on the level of the offence they actually committed instead of comparing their offence with that of juventus. If from the findings that the offence was actually committed intentionally, them paying of fines alone may not be their only punishment. However, I won't support the aspect of them being relegated or even to strip them of past titles because this will also comes with negative effects on premier League, Therefore the independent commission really needs to take time and to carefully access whatever evidence they have before arriving at a conclusion when deciding on the punishment that is deemed fit for such breaches.

The premier league is all about business and money, they can't dare to expel one of their biggest spenders, one of the highest revenue generating club, and lastly the most dominant team in the premier league for this decade. The FAs will consider those factors, and stripping of their titles and relegating them to the lower division might not happen. Manchester city owner has money and influence to pull some strings. At the end the punishment that will be given to them is payment of fine (£10-50m), points deduction or transfer ban for 2 year's. You are right, the issue would have been more worse if they were actually fixing games, it will be hard to try such in the premier league. It's not like the court will start punishing them right away, the case or final verdict might happen in the next 5 years and City will appeal.

(something like a 10-point deduction and possibly a year-long transfer ban
-10 points deduction doesn't sound like a fair punishment, (under some considerations tho) The breaches are mainly financially and not like bribing of refs, or any to enable the win a match to get points, in that case deduction of points is definitely a suitable punishment. So overall I do feel that a financial offense should call for a financial punishment rather that concluding on deduction of points. Although... If breaches where proven to show obvious advantage on the pitch the deduction of points can be considered as a suitable punishment.

If the FA wants to be fair enough and following the court rulings over this case, and without any compromise, then Manchester City should be relegated as a punishment but I doubt it would happen because of their capacity and interest of Investors supporting and owns the club, it's most likely going to be a mere punishment.

-10 points deduction doesn't sound like a fair punishment, (under some considerations tho)
Given the sheer scale of corruption within FIFA and UEFA, I wouldn’t be surprised if, in the end, Manchester City ended up paying little or nothing. A -10 point deduction next season would be a very light punishment indeed by sporting justice standards, considering the 115 charges they face. Furthermore, in my view, it remains embarrassing that it has come to years of legal proceedings, rather than stopping them earlier whilst they were making senseless signings, much like so many Premier League teams and as Paris Saint Germain are currently doing. In this scenario, the victories should be declared invalid because the teams fielded would have been in breach of the rules.

What if they take away the domestic trophies won by the previous squad, since you say it would be unfair to the current squad if the punishment applied directly to them? That's even the punishment I would prefer because those rules they broke helped them win the EPL for 4 seasons in a row. No matter how long the appeal takes, as long as they get punished in the end and the punishment is severe enough that it would act as a warning to teams in the future that are planning to break the FFP rules for their own gain. If no befitting punishment is given, teams will start damning the consequences and breaking the rules.

Enzo Maresca wanted to be Pep's successor. Manchester City must have promised him a huge salary, careless money to spend on the transfer window. All along, Fernandez knew he'd follow him. All planned out.
Respecting the contract he had with Chelsea and finishing the season with the team wasn't going to take all that away from him, he was still going to take the City job but instead he left the team half season sank them to the ground I hope he enjoys all that is coming for him and City now- I don't feel sorry for him or City, they did way too much. No matter how long the appeal takes, as long as they get punished in the end and the punishment is severe enough that it would act as a warning to teams in the future that are planning to break the FFP rules for their own gain. If no befitting punishment is given, teams will start damning the consequences and breaking the rules.
What would you consider a befitting "severe punishment" in this situation?

Manchester city violated way too much of the FFP rules and this has been going on for a long time, I’m beginning to think they were doing it deliberately because they’ve been warned several times but season after season they continue to violate the FFP rules.
Are you being serious right now about Manchester City being warned severally about breaking the FFP, but they kept breaking the rules season after season? Didn’t read about that when I was going through the case. From this your statement I can conclude that you not fully aware of what the charges are. Probably you just heard about 115 charges against Manchester City, and you didn’t bother reading what constituted the charges. Take your time and go through the case that so you get your facts right. City were charged in 2023 by the premier league, and there was no information about city being warned several times about breaking the FFP rules before they were eventually charged. But if you have links to where it was said that city were warned multiple times to stop breaking the FFP rules and they didn’t listen, you can send me the link let me check it out myself.

Caught us all by surprise didn't it, KT? Appeals will of course be the next step, and I don't think timeline or severity assessments on actual punishment changes (appeals can take a while, I understand). If Manchester City get relegated, they will be back to the premier league in the next season so it is not really a big loss to the PL. Any “big club” in the premier league should be able to boast of a loyal fanbase that can stay with club in the championship for just one season.
Depends where they land, though. Might even banish them to 3rd tier. And also, might depend on what kind of finances they'll be able to access then. Few players stay at a club when they can't get the same amount of money. Loyal fanbase... well. Time to prove they don't have plastic fans, eh? P.S. You still didn't join any of our pools!

You really think it's that easy to get relegated to the Championship and get back the next season? Do you know how demoralised the players would be if they get relegated, some of them might even leave the team because they didn't become professional footballers just tp play in lower division. For your information, they were only found guilty of the charges not that a verdict has be passed. If Manchester City appeals, it's not going to take another 3 years, the final verdict can be passed within 3 months or even less.

Just thinking about what Manchester City's board, players, coaches, staffs and fans are going through now, its indeed heartbreaking to see a team as dominating as Manchester City about to be relegated or punished in for some charges they would have prevented earlier before now but that's what we get when we choose to violate already established laws meant to guide football. Manchester City dominated for so many years with the help of constant violation of lay down rules with believe it won't fall back at them, but now is there payback time, so we all will be waiting to hear the final verdict of it all.

Unlike most people that want them to be moved to either 2nd tier or 3rd tier league, I'd like them to them to remain in the league. A befitting punishment would be stripping them of any and all domestic titles they won while they actively violated the rules as well as a heavy fine on the club and a transfer ban for a few years. This way, any club looking to exploit the system in the future will think twice.
