It’s really funny how it always seems like the easiest thing to do, how they easily lay it out there, having to analyze every pass, every positioning, every runs and more, make it look so easy and how they would have done it but, they had a whole career to present themselves to be anything but special and never did. Well, I quite agree with you, though I don't think it would have even made any sense if players who retire do that with their number, football to me is majorly for sports, fun and entertainment and not something to be taken that serious, even a president of a country is replaced when he or she passes on, how much more can't a number be replaced with another player when the player who used to known with that number retires?

To have the best stats you need to be an excellent player but a lot of things must align as well in your journey to make that happen, it is not only about being the best player.

I must say I completely agree with you because for players like Ronaldo and Messi they were very lucky that they had a very good playing career that was not ridden with a lot of injuries, and then they played in teams that complimented their pattern of play with good coaches which must have contributed to the statistics that they both have. Many other players did not have that opportunity because their careers were injury ridden and that dropped their fitness level and some of them did not have team that were good enough to compliment their pattern of playing or even lucky to have good coaches.

Thank you, you understand that this is not as as simple as many people make it out to be. If you have excellent talent and play but if you end up unlucky then it is not going to work. It is even more clear in cases of extreme injuries which can completely destroy a career, so someone who might have become better than the current greatest of all time based on skill and his play simply does not end up becoming that because of such an event. In their case it is a combination of both things, but if they had not been as lucky as they were it would have never materialized into this level.

The idolizing and fanaticism of people with weak minds is what leads to false conclusion, superficial analysis of literally every topic and overall stupid statements.

I can't believe you'll use just this single game to say that. And its against who, Algeria of all teams to come to this conclusion. That doesn't make sense to me. Now lemme give you a run down of their stats:

Algeria:

Now, do you see the difference. Algeria is not a team one will use to gauge the credibility of Messi. If he had underperformed, that would have been really disappointing. Although he hit some mile stones, and made some records in that game. But that game alone won't make me say "That's why he is the GOAT". If you have said something like, "He is the goat because of the numerous records he broke and mile stones he reached in that game", then that would have been a perfect GOAT statement.

You said just Algeria right, I don’t want to go into comparing the two teams both Portugal and Argentina played against, but since you have underrated Algeria and called them small team, they think we have to also compare Algeria to Dr Congo that Portugal played against. They are also a team of similar class to Algeria right? But why didn’t Ronaldo scored three goals in the match? That’s exactly the point. Years from now, what will matter most are the results and achievements as a player, not the style of play or versatility. Therefore, I believe Messi is ahead of Cristiano precisely because of that—the achievements he has had as a football player. This would only change if Portugal wins the World Cup, if that happens, they’d be practically tied.

I watched this time and he was simply exceptional in the game almost like he came alive just for that game. There was chatter about him vs Ronaldo and their performance in this world so I think he came out that day with the mindset that he has to put up a spectacular show and he did. That is why there was too much pressure on Ronaldo to meet expectations and I think that's why Portugal played absolute shit in their own game because they were trying hard to replicate for Argentina did rather than play their own game and wib.

To still be producing match winning displays at 38 years old, that shows an incredible level of consistency, fitness and football intelligence.

I don’t think a single match can completely and the GOAT debate because football fans will always have different criteria for judging football greatness. Some people value trophies, others value statistics or influence on the game. What is difficult to argue against Messi is ability to perform at the highest level across different eras and stages of his career and whether someone considers him the greatest ever or not, his longevity and achievements have certainly set a standard that future generations will find very hard or difficult to match.

This debate or argument has long been ended for me since 4 years ago during the last FIFA world cup when Lionel Messi lifted the world cup trophy, even before that very world cup, I already have him as the greatest (G.O.A.T) because of his magical performances that only few players can do, Lionel Messi shoulderd Argentina to that world cup journey and triumphant final victory, therefore I see anyone in this debate as not a true football enthusiast or analyst, he's biased and myopic football enthusiast.
