Someone needed to send some bitcoins to another person they had a deal with and so asked for their address. The fellow sent an address and he sent the coins. Almost immediately, they sent a chat and was like "Have you sent it?" He responded in the affirmative and they exclaimed "Oh no." Even though they didn't give me details of the problem, I think it could be a wrong address or an inaccessible one.

I remembered this incident because sometimes, I do not cross-check addresses when I send small funds. Have you lost some bitcoins because of carelessness?

What are you most conscious about before clicking the 'pay' button?

I've never experienced losing Bitcoin due to a simple oversight.
To ensure a successful transaction, someone can check to see if their Bitcoin address is correct. Unless one of them has no prior knowledge of Bitcoin, including Bitcoin transactions, that is.

Ensuring the Bitcoin address is correct is crucial for every transaction. Especially since we often copy addresses instead of typing each letter.

Once, when crypto exchanges weren't widespread, I bought Bitcoin through a special service. When I sent them a hundred-dollar transaction to my card, they were obviously supposed to send me the equivalent of a hundred dollars in Bitcoin to my wallet. But what arrived was a thousand dollars.
I desperately needed the money and started wondering if there was some trick to keeping this crypto. But before the transaction, I filled out a special form, so they could find me. And my conscience would eventually notice. Of course, the operator asked me to transfer the excess crypto, which I did. I've never made mistakes.

I am always very careful with my addresses and confirm very well side by side with my wallet. When I make a recurring transaction from my exchange to an address, I use the withdraw again button, this allows the app to fill in the address by itself and it's both faster and safer as I've never lost coins that way before. For a new address or using a non custodial wallet, I crosscheck very well before sending, whether for small or big funds because I am a person who believes that bad habits can become a tradition if not carefully checkmated.

I have lost funds before, but that should be $10 from a review campaign of which I didn't know Kucoin had a minimum deposit for their Bench32 address and they never refunded my coins until this day. That was the last day I used the exchange though.

Well, no, I haven’t messed up by sending bitcoin – or rather, sats although I’m keeping my fingers crossed, because you never know if you’ll mess things up in the future.

I remembered this incident because sometimes, I do not cross-check addresses when I send small funds. Have you lost some bitcoins because of carelessness?

What are you most conscious about before clicking the 'pay' button?

I do the same – for small amounts, I don’t check too closely, although I do always have a look. For larger amounts, I check carefully to make sure the address and the amount are correct.

This has never happened to me before, but I know it is a common situation that has happened to some holders in time passed, losing access to your bitcoin is not the network failure or inability to maintain maximum security that is needed to protect your asset, but the vulnerability mostly comes from holders, there is a need for us to know about the network security and what should be prevented in order not to risk the chances of losing our coins.

What are you most conscious about before clicking the 'pay' button?

I won't hold it against anyone that have lost their bitcoin because they were careless and did not cross check the bitcoin address they were sending Bitcoin to as sometimes it crosses our mind and we forget that we are supposed to do that. Investing in Bitcoin means that you are now in charge and not many people have taken accountability of their decision before they started investing in Bitcoin so it becomes the problem to them but there are those that put in effort to try to be in charge.

I haven't lost Bitcoin because I copied a wrong address or invalid address but I think I have sent Bitcoin to the wrong address which is still mine, but that wasn't where I was supposed to send it to because of me being drunk and that is why I try to be active whenever I am transacting.

Fraudsters and scammers are everywhere sending malwares through email and other means just to corrupt our wallet so we have to be careful and always cross check our Bitcoin address before confirming a transaction.

I have never lost a bitcoin before and I pray it never happen to me because that will be the saddest day of my life, losing a bitcoin is something that person should never pray for because it will make you feel discouraged when you want to do another transaction, i have sent bitcoin to many addresses and i have never make a mistake by sending it to a wrong address, i make sure I ask the person the receiver to make sure if the wallet is correct so that when anything happens i will not be the one to blame for it.

Well, if I'm honest, I've surprisingly never had any problems of this kind, even in the first transactions in which it is common to make mistakes of this type.

Despite this, I am now more aware that the address is copied well (checking each digit and character one by one) and also that it is the correct network, although the latter almost does not apply to Bitcoin transactions.

A novis in Bitcoin investing once told me he mistakingly sent Bitcoin to a wrong address, now instead of copying the bitcoin address, and pasting it in the appropriate place, he used pen to write down the bitcoin address, he made a mistake in the process of writing down the Bitcoin address, and when he eventually sent the bitcoin , he sent the bitcoin to the wrong address.
I find this very hard to believe. BTC addresses have a built-in checksum, so the chances of mistyping a character in an address and it results in a valid BTC address is slim to none. You can lose your funds if you either copy a wrong address that doesn't belong to you and send funds to the wrong person, or you are attacked by a clipboard malware that switches your copied address to that of an attacker, or an address poisoning scam. It has to be a valid address.

However, if you make a mistake in one or more of the characters of an address, your wallet would immediately flag it as an invalid address.

Maybe I would've lost some fractions of Bitcoin in my transactions because of carelessness if I wasn't introduced to Bitcoin by one who's very loud about security.

He carefully taught me about Bitcoin security and how to avoid getting myself in trouble. In his words, it's better to double-check every single character of a wallet address ten times than to lose your hard earned funds forever to a single copy and paste mistake.

I’ve seen several stories of people losing their Bitcoin, often for trivial reasons like copying the wrong address.

Thankfully, i’ve never lost any Bitcoin due to a sending error. I always make sure the address i copy and paste is correct, in fact i often double check it several times before hitting the send button. It might feel a bit of a hassle, but I think it’s far better than having to suffer a loss, and since Bitcoin transactions can’t be reversed once confirmed, we have to be extra careful.

I’m not sure I’ve seen my self making such mistake before . But I’ve seen scenarios where’s happens then I was managing this crypto community and many do complains about sending funds to the wrong address, which shows that it’s quite common in this space .

That’s why one can never be too careful when come to the crypto space because any slight mistake will cost a dollar most time , so we have to be careful cause is not pretty losing your hard earned money.

I've sent Bitcoin to another Bitcoin address that I have no access to anymore, this happened in 2024, I was carried away and I copied a old abandoned exchange wallet.

Do you know that some exchanges normally give customers notice that they are going to change their wallet address that users need to abandon the old addresses? That's what happened to me.

I pleaded with the exchange customer services and they said that they can't do anything about it, I was very lucky that the amount in dollars isn't much but that sat would worth something better in the future.

Maybe when Bitcoin turned a million and I look back, i might start feeling the pain then.

How did that happen and why some people make a wrong translation? Before sending a bitcoin to any address make sure you check the address properly, although no one is perfect and anyone can do mistake but sending a bitcoin to any address wrong address can make you lose what you have been holding for a long time or your future assets, the reason why we should check well before you send a bitcoin to any address is because if you make a mistake there is no way you will get the bitcoin back and there is nothing like tracking it to know the user and you do not also know maybe someone receive it or not because it is unknown address, I have never send a bitcoin to any wrong address because i always avoid anything that will make me regret my decision at the end.

Fraudsters and scammers are everywhere sending malwares through email and other means just to corrupt our wallet so we have to be careful and always cross check our Bitcoin address before confirming a transaction.
I think that's probably the most common reason why people lose Bitcoin or send funds to wrong addresses because if you are supposed to send funds to someone and they copy and send the address to you and make a mistake either by not copying the address properly, or have a letter removed before sending it to you, in that case, the wallet wouldn't execute the transaction and will give an error that the address is not correct or have complete character count, and even if the transaction gets executed at that moment, if the address is not created yet, it won't go through.

However, either the person sending the address or you are infected by a malware planted by a scammer, the chances of sending the funds to a wrong address will increase because the malware will change the address after either the sender copies it from their wallet or it changes it when you copy it from where you have received it because it goes into the clipboard first and could get changed from there if the clipboard is affected. This creates the biggest threat if the sender and receiver both don't pay attention to the address that has now been changed.

I have not lost Bitcoin through this wrong address mistake before, but I have actually made a mistake of sending an unsupported coin to an exchange address while trying to send it to another of my addresses for dex swapping. What led to the mistake was that I was also conducting some transaction on the same exchange while trying to settle that other transaction, the coin was gone forever because the exchange was setting a difficult recovery condition I have to let it go since it's not that of big money.

I don't think I ever made the mistaking of sending bitcoins to wrong address because from the beginning and even before bitcoin I am very careful when there is money involved in the process so I always double or triple check the address before clicking the sent button and the same practice is there even today.

But I have made some mistakes like directly sent bitcoins from casino to exchange that resulted into losing my exchange account which took years and at that time it was one of the kind and surely I had to settle for less popular exchanges when that happened and it's a mistake from my side.

At least so far, I've never encountered that problem because I always make sure the address I'm sending to is correct by carefully verifying that it matches what that person sent to me. Some people are a bit careless, they just send their Bitcoin to whatever address they've pasted, glancing at it briefly and assuming it's correct. But the address they pasted might be missing a single character, or the malware could have altered it to someone else's address without them realizing it. Carefully verifying the destination address is crucial to prevent this, and I don't think it's that difficult—it only takes a few moments to do that.

This has never happened to me before, but I know it is a common situation that has happened to some holders in time passed, losing access to your bitcoin is not the network failure or inability to maintain maximum security that is needed to protect your asset, but the vulnerability mostly comes from holders, there is a need for us to know about the network security and what should be prevented in order not to risk the chances of losing our coins.
people do complain of this and I believe that this kind of thing really happen because I've seen we have someone mistakenly send Bitcoin to a wrong address and the many people has been losing their Bitcoin through one way to the other, we need to be careful because electron mistake we make in Bitcoin transaction can make us for lost our Bitcoin so if you have not experience such other people have experienced such thing by losing their bitcoin and sending it in round address but they are not supposed to send to, what bitcoin transaction needed is for we to be careful

What are you most conscious about before clicking the 'pay' button?
At the moment I have never felt the loss caused by carelessness like this and hopefully in the future it will never happen again.
I always try to be more selective in making transactions regardless of how big or small we send in the end it will still be very valuable so I prefer to check several times before I send.

This is intended so that I don't miss small details because most of the carelessness sometimes occurs as a result of missing small details including rechecking the addres that we are going to send. Not a few users always complain of errors due to carelessness like this so I don't want to feel the same and it would be better to be a little slow because of repeated checks than to lose what we want to transact.

I remembered this incident because sometimes, I do not cross-check addresses when I send small funds. Have you lost some bitcoins because of carelessness?

What are you most conscious about before clicking the 'pay' button?
Yes, but it's different, it wasn't a technical issue related to sending or anything like that. I got tricked and scammed back when i was still new to crypto. It was a loan scam involving a fake erc20 token used as collateral.

It was a significant amount, but fortunately, i recovered almost the same amount through my business shortly after. Looking back, i still regret it because my holdings could have easily doubled  if i hadn't been scammed.

Still, i sometimes think that if i hadn't gone through that scam, i might not get those offer from my business recovering those lost amount.
