I use Linux, but it's not a cure-all. A stupid user on Linux could be infected by an attacker just as easily as a stupid user on Windows.

Yes, but even a stupid linux user would not have to worry about all the windows malware, which is the absolute majority of all malware.
And running linux in a sandboxed VM on a mac would stop even more of all malware. You can never be 100% safe though.

And if all the idiots started using Linux, they would target Linux, and we'd be in exactly the same situation.

And I should mention that Linux will be extremely easy to target as well, because the source code and all the details are out there public for everyone to see. But right now, the average Linux user is much more tech savvy when compared to the average Windows user.
