Gold and Bitcoin are both investable assets, so they need to be compared. If I have $5,000 a year to invest, then to decide whether I should invest that $5,000 in Gold, Bitcoin, or split it between the two, I must know the policy, risk of the two assets and what kind of output they will give in the long term. After that, it will be easier for us to make a decision. And what exactly do you mean by Gold is higher in value? price of an ounce of Gold? Total market capitalization? Historical acceptance? Bitcoin is ahead of gold in many places due to important features such as security and independent use. This is why bitcoin is growing in popularity. I am not presenting gold in a negative way here. However, personally, if I were asked to decide to invest new capital somewhere for a long time, I would choose bitcoin...

Bitcoin is much more convenient than gold, because not everyone can buy physical gold in banks, and it is very inconvenient to store it, especially in large quantities, not to mention the fact that it is difficult to transport somewhere to another country, it will be a lot of headaches. And in the country where I live, if you bought physical gold, then you can sell it with a very large price difference, and bitcoin does not have such spreads in its price. Bitcoin is convenient to transport because it literally requires a smartphone or laptop. Or you can even have your own keyword and that will be enough. In this regard, there are no analogues to bitcoin.

I have been thinking lately about how investing in bitcoin is actually a great idea but also it can be really hard to make profit off bitcoin if you're a small Investor
Imagine this:
If bitcoin is at $64k and me as a small investor bought with $1k, for me to make 100% profit bitcoin will have to hit $128k, that is still feasible
But if I'm hoping to make a 200% profit on my investment bitcoin price will have to get to $256k, how achievable is that ? And if it's achievable how long is it going to take
Love how you have put yourself in the boots of an investor especially that "ROI/ROC"  are projections the investor will always put into consideration , and looking at how you have phrased everything I want to believe you have taken the route of a hodler which is not a bad idea. My only worry about being a hodler in 2026 is that returns with this approach are coming in at the speed of a snail 🐌 that's to the momentum slowdown and let's not forget price could also go against intended direction ⬇️ ⬆️ which already hints of you not going in with high expectations .

Btw is being a hodler the most optimal way of getting decent returns from Bitcoin **maybe safer** , could staking or leveraged trading be alternatives and maybe offer better returns?

Which brings me back to my question
Can small investors actually make good profit with bitcoin?

Or are there other ways to make money with bitcoin as a small investor rather than just buy and hold?
Firstly Good profit very much possible, but will probably depend on your risk appetite.. but wait when you say good profit are we saying 100% profit , 200%+ or maybe we talking of 10% profit..what is the definition of good profit?

Secondly, will depend on factors like you knowing how to trade; the chart reading kind of trading.. and personally this is where am leaning on as this has better numbers if you have the skillset.

It is not unusual to find the selling price of gold lower than the buying price. Because since common people do not trade in gold, they hold most of it. They sell it when necessary. But if the people to whom they sell it are traders, then they will have a tendency to profit from it to some extent. In this case, the trader will naturally want to buy it at a lower price than the current price. Because he wants to make a profit by buying and selling that gold himself. In this case, if the gap is too high and the market is controlled by a business syndicate, then the government of that country should intervene here. They should decide how much % lower than the currency price the common people can sell it at if they want to sell gold. Then the traders will not be able to buy gold from anyone by fixing the amount as per their own, and as a result, the gold holders will not loss. But this is a very long process that there is also doubt whether the government will be able to control it completely. But the matter of bitcoin is different. It can be sold at the price that is there as current time . There is no need for any third party or government intervention here. Those who buy cannot manipulate the market. That's why bitcoin is ahead of gold in many ways.

Where Bitcoin is currently envisioned as a hedge to preserve value and is said to be a thousand times better than gold in terms of scope.

Is their any point making exaggeration?
Bitcoin and Gold are two valuable asset to invest in, the main reason it's more better to invest in Bitcoin now than gold is that Bitcoin is no where near it peak price, unlike gold that is almost there, since it has been in existence from the beginning of mankind, so I may agree with you that Bitcoin is a better asset to invest in currently, due to it huge potential ahead of him, but saying that it's a thousand times better than gold is what I refuses to accept, because that's misleading.

I doubt that it is an exaggeration to assess bitcoin as being 1,000x more valuable than gold, even though the market cap of bitcoin as compared with gold is currently around 1/20th.  It could take 50-200 years or more for bitcoin to reach 1,000x more than gold, whether that is bitcoin going up, gold coming down or a combination of the two.

For sure, each person is free to make their own valuation and to assess the addressable market of each or various ways to attempt to consider value of each.  There is no necessity to agree, even if you currently consider those relative values as being currently out of reach of the current market and/or market dynamics.

I knew that Bitcoin will always dominate gold on the longer run, in terms of value and growth potential, but one thousand times is quite a lot of ground to cover, because if for example that gold is $4,332 per ounce and Bitcoin is $63,800 right now, even in the next 50 to 200 years, it will be difficult for Bitcoin to get to $3,190,000 which is that 1000 times difference, that is if gold did not increase in value also, so am not saying that it's impossible, but that's quite a lot, that's why I feels like it's an exaggeration.

It’s incredibly easy to learn and understand, and accessible to anyone willing to learn—especially in today’s world, where anyone can gain knowledge simply by using a smartphone. At the very least, people can gain a basic understanding of Bitcoin and Bitcoin investing. Through online searches, they can figure out for themselves what they’re reading—they don’t need a special expert to teach them how to invest in Bitcoin. The most basic aspect is storage, since investments are typically held for 4–10 years. A 4–10-year timeframe doesn’t feel long to investors who are no longer newbies. For newcomers, however, that timeframe may seem very long, and they may also worry about how to secure their assets.

A newbie doesn't need to worry about securing their asset before they can start buying bitcoin, security is important but it's not a criteria for someone who wants to start buying bitcoin, a who's figured out their discretionary income can start buying bitcoin from there, anything else can come afterwards.

The most basic concept to get started with Bitcoin is understanding that Bitcoin works just like making a financial transaction. Of course, you need a wallet, and that wallet needs to be secured. That’s why I say understanding wallets and how to secure them is important—because that’s where your Bitcoin is stored.
With information so readily available, anyone can easily become a Bitcoin investor if they follow the steps I’ve outlined.

Frequently, I consider that there is a preference to keep growing the bitcoin and allowing the time to pass (without withdrawing from the bitcoin) until the bitcoin withdrawal amounts end up being less than the value that the bitcoin is tending to grow (on average) each year, so yeah there are up years and there are down years, yet if we are valuing our bitcoin stash from the 200-WMA, then one of the advantages of the 200-WMA is that historically it has ongoingly been going up, so then we should be able to figure out withdrawal amounts that end up being less than the amount that our bitcoin is growing... and yeah, it can take time to get to a large enough bitcoin accumulation level, yet guys who are constantly withdrawing from their bitcoin (and taking profits out of it), they are quite likely costing their own progress more than they are benefiting it, especially if they think that they are selling bitcoin and going to be able to buy back cheaper, rather than just ongoingly adding to their bitcoin.. so that their bitcoin stash is ongoingly growing.

Feel free to ask any questions in my investment ideas thread or the sustainable withdrawal thread.  The sustainable withdrawal thread does not get as many posts as the investments ideas thread, yet it still sometimes can take some time to relate to some of the ideas, and I have guys arguing with me about some of the valuation ideas in other threads from time to time, and of course, guys will have their differing perspectives regarding how to think about their bitcoin holdings and then how to manage their holdings once they get to certain levels and for me, it hardly makes any sense to spend 4-10 years or longer building up bitcoin holdings and then to end up selling most if not all of it for inferior investments and/or for consumption purposes when guys can probably get way more value out of the employment of price-based and/or time-based sustainable withdrawal practices (once their stash gets big enough).

I support your view that, dor someone to build Bitcoin position requires patience, is not all about investing today and sell tomorrow or take profits regularly, an investors sees alots of advantages by holding thier bitcoin for long-term growths to become a meaningful. For instance:my friend own 0.8BTC and he continue taking small profits whenever he noticed the bitcoin price rises, he may actually feel happy since he's getting cash out, but he should knows that every sell reduces the amounts of BTC they own, and if paraventure bitcoin later becomes more valuable later, he must definitely look for a lots money to in order to rebuild the same 0.8 Bitcoin position he started holding.

Then look in comparison with someone that keep accumulating bitcoin without withdrawing it for long-term. The main target is not about making more money from every bitcoin price increases. But to increases the amounts of bitcoin they are holding and controlling it over several years, then when it's time that it's has become larger enough, that's when the appreciation comes from long-term growth even without selling much. That why I still believe that the earlier stage truly requires much patience instead of taking profits, building a strong foundation at first and holding for long-term period.selling profits term to term will only gives you a short period satisfaction, creat a strong bitcoin foundation and be growing your assets gradually.

Bitcoin is much more convenient than gold, because not everyone can buy physical gold in banks, and it is very inconvenient to store it, especially in large quantities, not to mention the fact that it is difficult to transport somewhere to another country, it will be a lot of headaches. Bitcoin is convenient to transport because it literally requires a smartphone or laptop. Or you can even have your own keyword and that will be enough. In this regard, there are no analogues to bitcoin.

When buying physical gold, one of the things that comes to mind is carrying it from one place to another, which also puts you at risk. We need to be prepared before we consider buying gold because your security matters, but when you go for assets like bitcoin, you have minor issues to deal with. This is one of the reasons we need to decide which is better personally. Because security is one of the things to be considered first.

There are numerous reasons why investing in bitcoin is preferable to investing in gold. Although I am aware that bitcoin cannot completely replace gold, people will undoubtedly choose bitcoin because it can be sold at any time of day, unlike gold, which requires the buyer to be found and adhere to more protocol. People are also becoming more astute in their decision-making.

Nowadays, it's very easy for new holders or new investors who are just starting to get excited about Bitcoin to find information about Bitcoin and how it's kept safe. Because there are so many options for storing Bitcoin, everyone simply needs to know how to use a wallet and secure the wallet they want to store their Bitcoin in. The rest is simply about where to buy Bitcoin and how the Bitcoin system has worked so far to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Bitcoin. Another important aspect is that a strong mental attitude toward holding Bitcoin is essential when someone decides to buy it without being asked by others.

Snip.
But you don't need it to start buying bitcoin, that's what I want you to see, there is nothing wrong with starting to buy bitcoin even though you don't have a secured wallet yet, you can always get your hands on one later but the fact that you don't have yet shouldn't be what prevents you from buying bitcoin, there are alot of people who started buying and holding their bitcoin from exchanges, it's not the safest but they did not let access to a good wallet stop them from buying bitcoin and frankly you shouldn't either, your bitcoin can always be moved to a secure wallet on a later date.
Not having a personal wallet is no reason not to buy Bitcoin. However, it is important to highlight that there are risks and transition strategies to understand if choose to store Bitcoin on an exchange initially. Storing assets on an exchange is certainly practical for beginners who aren't yet familiar with the technical aspects of wallets. Liquidity is also high, making it easy to sell quickly if needed. However, assets held on an exchange do not entirely belong to us, in accordance with the principle: "Not your keys, not your coins." If the exchange goes bankrupt, gets hacked, or unilaterally freezes accounts, the assets could be lost.
It is fine to keep your assets on an exchange as a starting point. However, once the investment value becomes substantial or if a loss would cause financial distress, transfer them immediately to a more secure personal wallet.

You, perhaps, are confused about the basic knowledge and the basic concepts. To start investing in Bitcoin, we need basic knowledge and basic knowledge does not mean that we need to know anything special, except to know whether we have discretionary income or not or whether it is calculated correctly. If a person is able to find discretionary income then he is definitely ready to start investing and he can start investing as soon as possible.

We do not need to gain knowledge about wallets before starting investing. In choosing a wallet, we have to gain a lot of knowledge and we have to choose the right wallet. Due to a small mistake, we can lose all our holdings or bitcoins, so in the beginning you can keep your bitcoins in the exchanger and gradually gain knowledge and choose the right wallet. If I have failed to explain to you, then you can read this comment, I hope you will understand easily.

Trust wallet is not trustworthy. It is like having money on an exchange, since it is owned by Binance and it is closed source.

There are other wallets (such as cold card) that no one should be using based on their recent outrageous security breaches, and it is funny that they have not yet been removed from some of the websites comparing open source wallets.  By the way, another problem with cold card is that in 2021, they changed their software from being open source to being source verifiable, which was pretty much the same time that they introduced the outrageous vulnerability bug that failed to produce enough entropy (randomness) in their random number generator that was used in the creation of new wallets within the wallet.

The Bitcoin Hole has listings of both open source hardware and software wallets (and yea ignore the Cold Card wallet on that site, since it should be removed)

The Athena website only has hardware wallets.

It can sometimes take time to figure out which wallets to use, and Electrum is known as being a pretty good long standing open source wallet, even though I don't use it.

By the way, the more bitcoin that you hold (or accumulate) the more and more important security and privacy becomes, and so in the beginning when you might ONLY put $10 to $100 into it, there might not be much perception of importance, yet if the amount continues to increase and maybe even appreciate in value, then it becomes more important to increase and improve your security and privacy.

Bitcoin is much more convenient than gold, because not everyone can buy physical gold in banks,
Bitcoin is good but you can't conclude that Bitcoin is more convenient than gold..people choose the one that is more easier for them to invest...if you can't get gold in the banks, they're stores were gold is been sold, in which you can easily buy" you can also buy a digital gold if you wishes to buy..

Quote
and it is very inconvenient to store it, especially in large quantities, not to mention the fact that it is difficult to transport somewhere to another country,
People who is into the system or business, knows how to store their gold and also convey it to the destination..

Btw is being a hodler the most optimal way of getting decent returns from Bitcoin **maybe safer** , could staking or leveraged trading be alternatives and maybe offer better returns?

Secondly, will depend on factors like you knowing how to trade; the chart reading kind of trading.. and personally this is where am leaning on as this has better numbers if you have the skillset.
Trading and staking is gambling and not a good way to make profit. Trading is highly risky and the price of bitcoin is unpredictable making it very difficult to outsmart the market and you will end up in losses. Trading isn't a good way to build up wealth with bitcoin but long term buying and hodli overtime with DCA weekly purchases. Trading is the opposite of long term investment and losses is inevitable.

As for staking that's a big risk which you are bringing upon yourself because even the ROI is very small and doesn't worth giving your bitcoin to a third party platform. Secondly, staking is against the nature of bitcoin because if uses PoW for mining since it's decentralized while staking is for a centralized shitcoin. If you stake your bitcoin, you can lose it to the platform which is a big risk to take.

Brand new investors shouldn't think of trading or staking because profit shouldn't be why you bought your first bitcoin but to build and grow your bitcoin stash for the future till you reach your bitcoin target.
