Its always risky to use public WiFi and worse if its anonymous i.e. we don't know who is providing an open WiFi in public place. Since we don't know the owner, we also don't know the intent behind offering a free WiFi in public place. These days mobile data is very much in range of majority of people and for security of your financial assets residing on your phone, always use mobile data or secure WiFi. We must avoid every WiFi which is freely available and everyone can easily connect to it.

I was wondering if these public wifi saga will affect school public wifi’s, can it be also safe? Because I know school authorities will not try anything funny with students and in case of big organizations and offices that have wireless networks, it should be safe for general use, or can an scammer outside use another company’s wifi to get victims?
For shops and open businesses, their wifi can be very dangerous but I think schools should be safe.

The point is not that public WiFi means that all your information will be stolen directly. Because if you use public WiFi just to watch YouTube, then there is no problem even if that data is stolen. But if you do sensitive work like Banking or crypto wallet, using mobile data is easier and a good precaution. There is no reason to take risks with a financial account to save a few MB of data.  However, even if you use mobile data, you should be careful of phishing links or fake apps, because not all risks come from WiFi. Another option could be a paid VPN.

I did not believe that fraudsters are just trapping ordinary users through free wifi, but I came to know many important points about this issue in an article. If you can afford to get yourself coffee, then you are not suppose to be using their Wi-Fi to chat because I don’t think buying data will be so expensive for someone like that to afford. Also you going to be using just little mobile data whenever you are chatting with friends, so I don’t even think you will need to make use of public data if you want to do that.

The only time I do make use of public data is whenever am downloading something thats so heavy, if I want to make use of my mobile data for that, am going to spend so much money, so I can make use of public Wi-Fi for that, and things that I download are not sensitive information. Making use of public Wi-Fi to download sensitive information’s, accessing your bank apps with it, or accessing your crypto exchanges with it doesn’t make sense, and you are likely going to be hack if you are not making use of reputable public Wi-Fi.
