Probably, it is precisely this promise of the gambler to himself that will ease his bitter taste of the decision to end the gambler's activity. Because everyone is afraid of the word "forever." And the funny thing is, this promise doesn't have to be kept by a gambler in the future, it just might be a lie to save his future. Because in any case, such a gambler's life will change after retiring from gambling. And I want to believe that these guys won't get into gambling anymore.

it could be a lie as you say but what's the point in saying it publicly then
I don't remember which book i read this in, when you state a goal in public it helps you because you are often not willing to make a bad impression on others publicly
when you play online you play in secret, not publicly.
What matters here is that OP is sharing a positive and inspiring story which can be useful for other gamblers who are struggling with the same situation on their lives. He can motivate and give strength to other addicted gamblers to also quit gambling and focus on priorities such as career, family and social affairs.

Many people feel lost and can't see any alternatives for their future, but once they realize others found an exit somehow, they start changing the way they view their own lives. They start thinking it's also possible for them to overcome difficulties and obstacles to move on. That is why the message on this thread is important.

The right decision! You stop gambling and close the accounts of both casinos, indeed in the casino there is a self-exclusion option but for me it will not fully overcome the addiction problem.

Yes, it is rather difficult to take this action, however, you do the courage to stop completely without the need to reduce the game or budget, because you are aware that if it is excessive it will damage everything including your mental.

Hello friends, today marks a day of a really tough decision I had to make.
To gamble, or not to gamble.

Recently I've been going through too much chaos in life, and have to set my priorities straight.
I was losing too much when I gambled, always chasing losses, getting furious when I lose, so I made a decision to quit.
I've closed both my Stake and Roobet accounts, which are the only 2 online casinos I play at.
I can't lie, it was fun, it was thrilling, I've had ups and downs, but after looking at my wager and statistics for both sites, I've lost too much when I could've been saving that.
I have quit gambling, and am now focusing on my business and to save up my money.

It is a good move and a great realization.  If you feel that you are going down with your gambling activities, then yes, the best move is to quit gambling.  I know it is really hard to stop, especially when a person is too hooked on it and enjoying the game.

If one can't control his expenses when gambling but is still sane enough to think about what is better for himself,  quitting is the best option because continuing to engage in gambling when we know our finances are going down the drain is asking to be ruined.

It's good that you have a plan to protect yourself from the possible temptation to start gambling again - maybe it would be good if you could block yourself in the place where you used to buy cryptocurrencies? Something like a first line of defense, considering you've already disabled some gambling sites yourself.
Terrible first line defense if you ask me. What if the OP actually needs to get cryptocurrency for some other important purpose other than gambling? Maybe like accumulating, or paying for something online with crypto. I was even thinking that you were about saying or advising the OP to self exclude himself or completely block himself from the casino to avoid being tempted to go back there again, I mean that would have made more sense than advising him to cut all ties with cryptocurrency purchases.

Right. When people first think about gambling addiction, the immediate image they have on the consequences of it are purely economical, people rarely talk about the mental burden it can have on one's mental health, than addiction develops.
In the end, I think mental mental is as important or even more important than the money we could lose during our countless gambling sessions on online casinos.

As long as there is mental and physical health, money can be made out our effort, otherwise, we would not be able to make money of we are sick.

We need to find out what the main problem is. What is clear from reviewing the above is that the main problem is not the cryptocurrency itself but the opportunity for gambling. If someone is gambling with cryptocurrency and is asked to stop using crypto, he can stop it but can reactivate it with another payment method. But if he is asked to self-exclude from gambling, that is what I think is the most coherent advice. Although the use of crypto is not completely unreasonable because if the main medium of gambling is crypto, it is definitely not a permanent solution because a person can perform many other functions with crypto.

If closing your account is what it takes for you to beat your gambling addiction, then more power to you.  I think you may regret it one day if you do decide to come back and start gambling, not to mention I'm not sure how effective that is since you can always just open another one.  I'd rather see someone beat the addiction mentally instead of using tricks, but whatever it takes for you to reach your goals is the right thing to do.

Thanks again everyone for your replies, it has helped me stay strong with my decision to quit gambling.
I hope I can grow my business and succeed with this project.
You can always grow your business and get back on your feet, the good decision you made was to cut all ties with gambling, that's a good start, ensure you disable ads in apps and site you use so there's no chance they remind you of gambling, lest you may be tempted to click again. Sending you much strength and encouragement as you strive to get back your life together.
So this decision will be his biggest turning point if he can stick to his decision very deeply. You have to completely give up gambling and rebuild your future now, and for this you must first ensure that you will never get caught up in anything addictive again on this journey of yours. Completely remove gambling from your life, install an ad blocker on your device so that no gambling-related advertisements come in front of you. You have to forget about gambling completely, and focus completely on rebuilding your life. People can rebuild themselves from any stage if they really want to, so OP should believe in himself, and continue the journey he has started very well, he will definitely be successful.

I think what he did is considered the first steps because an addicted gambler first has to recognise his addiction so he will be able to fight against it. So cutting out from his gambling account would already build a foundation for him to fight back. Though like you said, this will not in any way stop him from creating a new account. He just have to make up his mind not to break his rules anymore and move on from gambling. The only problem I have with op is that he wishes to stop gambling and focus on his main work only, but then he's into the gambling business. Not directly but at some point, you might be urged to test out certain features and will you rather miss out on the offers to protect your addiction habits? Maybe he has it already planned out..

It is a good thing you realized the error you've made because this is the hardest thing in gambling. Lots of people are going through a hard time in life due to losses in gambling. If it were that easy to quit gambling as a result of losses, there wont be addicted gamblers everywhere. Most addicted gamblers became addicted because they can't get over their losses. Chasing losses is the reason why there are so many gambling addicts today.

For me, I wont close my casino account. I will try doing self-exclusion for a period of time before coming back again. If the losses still persist, perhaps that is when I may decide to quit gambling forever.

I have read all of your replies, I'm surprised my thread got some attention.
Thank you all for your responses, I will address a few questions here.

"Why did you close your accounts and not self-exclude"?
I decided to quit entirely and did not want to give myself an option to come back to gamble.
No one is supposed to question your decision to completely close down your accounts instead of self-excluding. You alone know what your experience felt like to warrant such a harsh decision to close down your accounts. What this means is that you are leaving no room to entertain temptations. That is truly a bold step that proves you are serious about restructuring your life.

This is what some gamblers are supposed to do, but they are either yet to realise that they are messing up their lives or are still unable to take this bold step. Some have quit a number of times but still go back to gambling once they are tempted. Knowing when to call it quits is very important to every gambler, especially struggling gamblers.

Suddenly stopping might create withdrawal symptoms. Even if you close your accounts, you'll still want to gamble. It's one thing to say "I've closed my accounts and I won't gamble anymore," and another thing to actually do it.
I understand you want to focus on your work, and I hope you do well. If you start gambling occasionally for fun, then you won't have to think about these things.
And most importantly, you won't chase after your losses or dwell on them, so set aside a small amount and enjoy yourself occasionally.

That is will power if you have that solution to quit gambling and close your accounts. I've been reading other gamblers who said that they're also quitting and even used self exclude but came back eventually.

I wish that you won't end up getting back and you'll endure the temptation that you'll ever feel and miss about gambling.

At first, that will be hard because your mind will fight over your body and will urge you to gamble. You'll survive that I believe.

The hardest thing is not to make the decision, but it is to stick to it and don't give up against the urge when you feel it after you have made the decision. So many people decide that they won't gamble anymore, and they also try, either by closing their account, using self-exclusion, or even limiting their budgets, but they can't sustain that for long, and eventually give up against the urge to gamble and start gambling again. It's not closing the accounts that can stop one from gambling, because one can easily create more on other platforms, but if one actually believes they have the will power and enough self-control to actually stop, then they can surely do it, even if they don't close their accounts.

I wish you good luck, and I hope that you can actually stop gambling since you have noticed that it is actually creating problems for you. Gambling is good until it's just about fun and not causing any financial or mental stress, but when it reaches that point, it is better that the gambler backs off to avoid ruining their life and a career they are trying to build because gambling will never let you do anything if you get too deep. It's a great decision, but only if you stick to it and don't go back to gambling ever again, or even if you do, you do it just for fun and stay within the limits.

Op, your story is quite motivating and encouraging to many other gambling addict that are out there who are struggling on how to get out of Similar situations that has almost made them lost almost or  their entire fortune in gamble. However, one big challenge as a gambler is to know when you are exceeding lines and how to stop so as not to incurred more lost. Furthermore, this step of yours (Op) isn't actually a sign of weakness or cowardice, it's a clear indication that you actually know what you are doing and since you weren't getting it clear or favourable putting an hold is just the way forward. Maybe this will be also useful to as many that were actually thinking of making big money through gamble that nothing is sure, if things is not actually working out for you as a gambler then it's better you just let it be.

First of all, i’d like to congratulate you on the decision you’ve made. Based on your story, this might be the best choice you can make right now, at least to try to get your life back on track and sort out your financial problems.

It’s hard, really hard. Even i personally could never do it, no matter how much i’ve lost, it’s simply impossible.

Next time, when the urge to gamble strikes again and you decide to give it another try, i just hope you’ll be able to control yourself and become a more responsible gambler, not just act on a momentary impulse.

"I see you offer a service related to gambling, this could be hard for you to quit gambling?"
I do offer web development and provide slot games for casinos, this is my business I am focusing more on.
I don't believe I'll have any issues stopping myself from gambling, I see this as "switching sides", because now I am the house edge.

"It's hard to quit, even after closing your accounts, you could always come back."
This is true, it's very hard, I even tried closing my Roobet account a couple weeks ago, and I failed to commit back then.
But now, it's official. I've quit and do not want to come back to gambling.

These two responses catch my attention. Mow from what i can understand from your replies that you are involved in gambling as a profession or that gambling is one of the niches you work through. If you were not a gambling fun (not addict), would you consider yourself a successful developer or did you dare to join this field as a profession sector? Meanwhile, by stop gambling as a final decision to leave the domain as a player, but you are not considering to leave the industry entirely.

In the other hand, I respect you to be that brave to leave this exhausting practice right after noticing that it has started destroying you life partially or entirely. And also thank you to share your experience with gambling community in particular. I hope it would inspire others

That’s certainly a huge step towards fighting addiction and what has and could have continued to course you a lot of financial strain.

When you say close though, is it the self exclusion or you just had to logout and stop logging in on the account.

One of the most difficult things to do in life is to take a discipline that goes against your desires to pleasure yourself every once in a while. Let’s hope you don’t go back on your decision to not gamble and you find the stability you desire in your finances.

There is nothing wrong with the decision you made; you made it consciously, with your rights, and you are taking responsibility for yourself. I think you are making a wise decision, and I believe that is how you can break free from excessive gambling. Essentially, you have broken the chain that binds you to gambling, and that can help you take a temporary break from gambling.

By the way, I am not blaming gambling at all. Essentially, it is a person's bad gambling habits that lead to a bad outcome. So, we can learn a lot from OP's case: not to gamble excessively, and; to recognize your limits (financially, and time-wise). The solution for those who have overindulged in gambling is to stop gambling, and try to calm down until you no longer experience excessive emotions.

One important lesson: reducing the intensity of gambling can help you overcome addiction, especially if you can stop gambling until you have recovered (psychologically, and financially).

Personally, I have been in a similar situation to the OP. Thankfully, I have come out of that period, and understand the importance of not overdoing anything, including gambling.

Quitting completely sounds like the right move, especially since you recognized the pattern of chasing losses. People know that gambling is bad for them but a few have follow the discipline to stop and close their accounts. If you focus on your business, you have a better chance of building something that will last long, instead of hoping to win something big. I also think it is a good idea to have people around you who will support you. because sometimes old habits come back during stressed moment. And if you stick to your decision and watch your money grow, which will be more rewarding than such temporary thrill.
