I'll say as an employee, you shouldn't expect compliments to be given to you every now and then since you already are being paid for the work that you are doing.

But as an employer, giving out compliment to your workers does you more good than bad and since they're just words and it cost you nothing then I don't see a reason why you shouldn't do it. Compliments has the way of uplifting your workers and they become energized to do more work as they see themselves as one with the company, with more compliments your workers will see themselves as family (human) and this will boost the productivity of your business so why aren't you doing it more often.

We are in a society that feelings are being ignored and the lower class aren't being considered human as they are being used like robots that have no feeling and all they do is work, so when you make someone feel seen and appreciated for what they are doing I believe you will get the best out of them.

The compliment thing is true. Still, you are being too generous to employers with that "it costs nothing so why not" line. Generosity like that must be earned, and employers have not earned it. It means that is an oversight, does not it? They forgot a small optimization. It is not.

You are constantly saying to someone that they are good. Be sure to observe what sprouts in that soil. They gain confidence. Confident people negotiate. Confident people set boundaries. People who are confident know their value and they do it. In terms of control, it is better to leave people just a little bit unsure of themselves, rather than making them feel safe.

Why stop at compliments? Why not have the employer throw a party whenever an employee complete a simple task. I bet that would be extremely motivating for employees.
Why should you be praised for doing your job? Isn't that why you periodically get paid? While it can be really motivating for employees to receive some sort of acknowledgement or a nod from the higher ups, such acknowledgement ought to be earned. Surely you would not expect to be given accolades for finishing a simple task. Besides, if compliments are freely given for every mundane task, employees could slowly become complacent and you can be certain no employer would want that.

Although not everyone needs this compliments or is going to take them seriously but it is important to always let your employees know that they are doing a good job or a bad one because if they don't know these things then they are not going to be able to get motivated enough to either make any sort of improvement or know if they are doing a good job. Yes, that's right, when employees take their work seriously, praise does. In real life I have seen many organizations, whose employers treat employees very well and even evaluate their work. As an employer, you need to build the right working environment that is very much conducive for your staff and when there is need for appraisal and applaud, it doesn't take anything from you if you do it some times. what makes workers put in extra work and work as though they are a part of an organization is when the boss gives a tap in their back and applaud them when there is a job well done. even if there is some sort of deficiency in the work performed, it is also necessary to applaud your workers because without them, your organization can not stand.

At some point, you need to give incentives to workers that perform exceptionally well which will go on to let them know that they are being noticed for their effort. if they are putting in all the effort and you are taking it for granted, they will do just the basic thing they are obligated to do without putting in any single additional effort. even as a boss, you will be happy when your workers appreciate you as a good boss talk more of your workers.

Yes very much important, like do you know what it means for you employer to compliment you? Like that feeling is second to none, it makes you feel confident in your job knowing too well that you're actually doing the right thing, most at times when the compliment comes from a job well done at your office or area of work, that compliment alone from your employer puts you above Many other, and some time your co worker might get jealous of you, so it's really important you get complimented from your employer at your area of specialization because it boosts your energy to do more.

If your job affects your normal life, this can lead to very bad things, especially being stressed all the time. Of course, things like morale and safety are important, and people are, of course, beings whose state of mind can influence important matters, but as I said, work is work. The moment the job is done, it shouldn’t have a negative impact on the person. The relationship between employee and employer is, of course, important, but it’s always better for it to be professional. Once you have a professional relationship with your employer, the rest isn’t that important. If the employer is going to give the employee positive feedback, this could be financial. That would be far better than empty words.

You go to work to earn money, not to earn compliments. It is fine if the employer praises you, that will give a small motivational boost. But you wont be well fed with compliments. A compliment wont make you work 12h instead of 8h daily. Pretty soon you will get used to compliments, but employer will demand greater results from you. The owner of a company and the employee should have a friendly relationship. Suppose I am an employee and now if my boss shows too much attitude towards me and does not value me then even if I work there due to lack of money, I will never work with my full attention and as soon as I get an opportunity in another place I will leave that job. Because only money cannot make anyone happy. Along with money, getting respect is also very important.

But if my boss praises my work, then my enthusiasm for work will increase and I will always want to work more attentively. This is my thing. I always think about everything by myself. So I think that the work of the employee should always be praised, only then will we always get better output from the employees.

For me, as an employee receiving praise from my superiors is important, although not everyone relies on it. In fact, I believe that as a superior praising employees for every job they do is a must.

Sincere and specific praise for employees has a significant impact on their motivation, making them feel appreciated, and this will undoubtedly impact their long-term performance. As a superior you must utilize your position to do crucial things, such as providing clear feedback to employees, both praise and correction. Without it, employees often feel confused and unmotivated.

Praise isn't absolutely necessary, but it can be a very effective leadership tool when used correctly. So, give it appropriately to employees but don't overdo it or be fake, as in many cases employees leave when they don't feel appreciated.

While working we should not be too concerned about whether someone is seeing what we are doing or not. What is most important to us is that we are doing the right thing by putting in all our best at work.our first priority should be that as an employee of an establishment, what I can do to improve that establishment and not to concern yourself more about whether someone is noticing me or not. We see complains like this from employees that are just seeking attention in the work place, we are employed to work first before we can even think about getting complement from our bosses at work.


While it's important that a person who has done well, over a period of time should be appreciated people should live their lives beyond that and just keep doing their best. When it comes to employers or should i say leadership,  its not a one shoe fits all kind of arrangement...some jobs are non negotiable with how these are done and the boss will tell you what to do without any signs of emotions added in there, almost like a military setup and it works..but in places like a garage , I think that would be an ideal setup for compliments if someone got a lesson correct with any assistance then it makes sense..also this compliment thing goes with a person's character,  you can't learn certain traits unfortunately!!

I believe appreciation is essential, however is not something that workers should rely on before they will do there work effectively. An employer should some time try to cheer there workers up by complementing them, this will motivate them to give there best and deliver the best within their capacity because they feel that there effort is being recognised. This may lead to more recognition because when we are praised by the boss it indicates that we are doing what should be done with our work so that it makes us more motivated to do our best.

When we are praised it means that we are working according to criteria and that can be a plus for ourselves but in the work environment sometimes the situation is not as simple as this either.

The work environment is sometimes not easy because of several things including toxic problems that sometimes always occur. I have been in the scope of work for quite a long time and there are some superiors who sometimes praise just to take advantage and there are also those who praise because of appreciation so we need to be observant here considering that not all praise is positive because it could be that this is the opening for us to be used by others including superiors.  It is not wrong if your friends complain about it but do not take this as a reference. Maybe it will be very good if the work environment is healthy but when the work environment is full of toxic actually praise can also be a double edged sword.

Everyone has aired their views, personally I think compliments shouldn’t be anything personal because even the salary or wages paid for the job already signals a job well done. Many staffs you see them been emotionally attached to this compliment of a thing and thinks that employees that do not send out this compliment are consider strict which is actually false it has nothing absolutely to do with that,

The only place I think compliments are necessary from an employer is when your employee actually does an extra for the work, yes even doing the required work expected you can actually compliment them to encourage them but it’s not so necessary that any party will actually take to the heart, but once it’s an extra effort added by the employee to see the success of that business then it is definitely important to reward them or compliment them because that’s beyond their job description, and it’s a favour done to the company

You are undervaluing the importance of appreciation at the workplace. Employees are indeed paid to do their jobs and a salary is compensation for their time and for the skills that they put into their job, but it is not substitute for recognition.
Compliments should not only be reserved for employees who get way beyond their job description, recognising people consistently who meet expectations encourages them to maintain their work level and also lets them know that their effort are being noticed and appreciated. Similarly, places where performance is taken for granted can leave employees feeling undervalued, even if they are paid fairly and on time.
Someone who is making exceptional efforts they deserve reward such as promotions or bonuses, but regular appreciation and rewards for performing good is serving different purpose

Bro, employees who expect to be praised for tasks they are getting paid for are raising too many hopes, they have been hired for the job, and they don't need to be praised, but if you are doing well and deserve recognition and are not getting any, then that's a problem for you, and you have to manage it accordingly, like you can talk to HR about your work and why you are not getting promotions.

But if you are only talking about getting some praise while you did a job, then don't expect it, and that's for your own good because if you raise such high hopes, then you will never be able to enjoy anything, especially the moments that belong to others. I don’t know if you have managed a business or a company before, then you will know the importance of complementing your employees. Why do you think some companies pay their staffs bonus? The first duty of the individual in the workplace is their contractual duty and not one that aims to validate themselves on the second basis. A monthly pay is a form of real reward to that hard work. Excessive stroking to the head is actually a way of getting the true meaning of professionalism and creates unwarranted frustration to the person.
