Should workers always look forward to being complimented or encouraged by their employers?

I listened to some people have a conversation and were complaining about the attitude of their employer being too strict and not complimenting them whenever they do a task or complete a job. This had me thinking about the importance of such compliments and encouragements even asides the salary that the employer pays them for the job. Do you see this as also important because some people will prefer as bosses to be feared than to be loved. For you, what do you prefer? will you like to be loved as a boss or feared? , and do you see see compliments as important from an employer.

Actions speak louder than words when it comes to business, particularly the relationship between employees and managers. If you have a manager that shares burdens with you, knowledgeable and dipping in to help out when you're under pressure - it can make you a lot more of a content employee. Especially when raises and promotions can be ever harder to come by in the modern world, or sometimes come in below inflation which can be insultingly low. I'd probably prefer to sustain being paid slightly below average in a nice work environment than paid over the odds in a ruthless and nasty workplace environment which do exist out there. There can also be other subtle perks that can sometimes go overlooked like the ability to work from home in certain tech jobs can be a very pleasant perk worth holding on to.

There is no point for an employee to expect compliment from his or her boss after a well done Job. Although it is good for employer to compliment workers in their job to motivate them as to do their Best. But unfortunately all men are not wired thesame. Lack of physical compliment may not mean they don't admire your efforts, but probably waiting for an exact day to tell you, bu will be acting as if your efforts are not important. Don't be surprised that thiis type of boss may just promote you without a word of compliments just to show you how effective you are, but the second type of boss may be complimenting you and motivating you but doesn't have any good intentions for you. his intentions may just be that you will end up doing this job forever. So you will get the compliment you meede but no promotion. Just be cautious

I think we confuse compliments for common courtesy, like for instance if someone is working for me, it's should be common courtesy to say thank you or show care regardless of whether I'm paying you or not but it doesn't demand that as I see you on the job daily or weekly, I start giving you compliments, nah, I don't really think so.
So yea, employers can be more nice in gesture but to start demanding a compliment culture, I don't think that's good.
 In the long term even.

It alo depends on what we call compliment like ulyou rightly said. An employer who is paying you for your service don't have much to do about compliments to an employee Pasay. In the first place you applied for the joke and agreed to the payment of salary and the facts that othe terms and conditions of the work you agreed to it. The employer can only be nice and friendly which is not a must to be. Because many employers see being nice to there employee as a link to be disrespectful to them.

A good compliment motivates employees. Especially when an employee solves a difficult task, the boss should appreciate him a little so that he is mentally happy. When an employee feels a little happy in addition to his salary and good words from someone, then it becomes a matter of liking for him. He then becomes more dedicated to his work and he starts doing his work with love, considering it his responsibility.

When we complete a task, it means we've fulfilled our obligations, and as long as our rights are met, praise isn't important to me. In fact, I'm suspicious when my boss praises me, as there's likely additional work involved, which is simply a token of loyalty.

Where I used to work, the company didn't appreciate me working overtime because my salary wasn't adequate, but I was reprimanded if I was late. Furthermore, there was no career path, even though I personally felt I'd made a significant contribution to the company, having worked at a pioneering company.

When I was younger, things like that used to motivate me, but I guess they don’t mean anything to me today. Kind words and compliments are things that stir up emotions, but reason compels us to act rationally...

In my professional life, I no longer want to see someone who will motivate me, but rather someone who can respect me simply for being human. I believe that’s what the relationship between an employer and an employee should be...

However, these days, employers sometimes even resort to psychological abuse against their employees in order to extract more productivity from them...

Employer complimenting employees doesn't mean that the employer will be loved by employees but compliment should be part of a work place not just with words but also with things and if this question should be asked then others like "are thank you important from recipients of gift?" Are employees supposed to do a good job? Should be asked also and other questions alikes. Psychologically, human has an internal to external change for good when they see their efforts being well appreciated. To compliment others for job well done is a good thing and everyone loves good things.

A work place where the boss is feared is already incomplete and the boss is incompetent except it's a gangsterdom, if not why should employees be afraid of their boss, fear is not respect. Howbeit, workers who looks forward to be complimented by their boss usually act performative (eye service) which is not a good work ethics but employees deserves compliments for jobs well done.

Humans need validation for their tasks in general so when some recongize their action and gives so comforting words will push them to do more but not necessarily, a boss no need to complement anything as long as he is paying the salary and the employee is just doing what he is supposed to do, and may expect when he does out of his workline.

Not like they are demanding but yeah, there is compliment and there is courtesy.
While you’ve defined courtesy just right, the compliments would be having to tell your employees how you feel about their work, “what a fine job they’ve done”, “you’ve put in a lot of work or time on this one and it came out just perfect, good one…”

It’s not demanded but, it’s the necessary conditions required for a staff to feel seen or appreciated for the work they put in, not necessarily the salary you pay them for their work.

You would be surprised how these little things like compliments and courtesy matter and what they can do to productivity.

In some way’s case, I think employee should be compliment base on how he/she works in the company, because the compliment will make them work better and work with their full mind. I know that in some ways you is it as if the employee doesn’t work as you want you will just get a new one but it will make you lose some good employees.

To me complimenting employees are kind of necessary.

I am running a small business and I am responsible for the management of my business and I have a few employees. The thing is that I always praise them for all their work and encourage them. And my employees always talk to me in a free mind and share their problems with me like a friend. I think that this is the kind of relationship that should exist between an owner and an employee. When I do not praise the work of my employees and always put them under pressure, they will not work properly with their attention. It will be seen that they will make various mistakes in work and that can be a cause of loss for me. Even if they do less work sometimes, I do not talk to them strictly but encourage them that if they do something better, I will give them a bonus. In this, they work hard as they should and I think that is how it should be.

When someone makes themselves as irreplaceable in a company or whatever the place they are in then they will be appreciated and even pampered and everyone else won't get any special treatment. I agree that protecting good employees can help the bond between boss and the workers, but is it necessary? No in my opinion.

the only thing that will you create a bond between a manager or CEO of a company and employee is when the employee is doing absolutely well in that company, because if you're working is not what can elevate your company or bring your company a good name you cannot be associated with that your worker so I believe that there is no good company that does not want a good employee that will work for the benefit of the company, if you are working only to get payment without adding value to the company I don't think that the company boss can be related with you

Not exactly, a good employee who will do what their job is without causing any trouble but they are replaceable for many reasons like an age factor or can find a new employee for the same job with lesser pay than someone who is doing that for a decade or more.

I would say complement can actually be a feedback tool not only for the employee, but also for the organization. When someone publicly says something good, others can understand what kind of work is being given importance. However making it a rule can be a problem, because then the complement will not be sincere and will just become an office routine.  And there are many employees who do not want to work well if they do not receive complement from their boss, So I would say that it is more effective to specifically acknowledge good work rather than praising it every day.

Do you see this as also important because some people will prefer as bosses to be feared than to be loved. For you, what do you prefer? will you like to be loved as a boss or feared? , and do you see see compliments as important from an employer.

As someone who has worked at several companies, I've encountered various types of bosses, and I can say that each one has different traits, some are nice but turn out to be terrible behind your back, while others seem mean but are actually able to build your resilience and help you become a better person.

Personally, I don't have a preference, whether they're nice or not, it doesn't really matter to me, because what's important to me is that I just need to do my job and get paid. If my boss praises my work, that's great; if not, that's fine with me too. I just focus on what I'm doing and prioritize my paycheck over all of that.

The truth remain that all your point are valid in the relationship between employee and employer, many employer are too difficult to work with but the employee reliance, industrious and tellorance win the raise. As employee one must have the charismal to withstand and work with any kind of employer, as that makes one more professional, in a norm the relationship between employee and employer is more bonding if the employer, occasionally compliment the work of his employees, in work through financial award, physical gift promotion in meeting certain target etc, non compliment show high level of employer not appreciating the efforts of it's employee as it could show signs of enslaving them unlike team work who is growing the employer dream and goal. In today world many work because of the benefits they get not the joy they achieve in the job because in situations where employer don't care to appreciate your efforts it more like efforts wasted, and those with bad intensions uses it to work against the employer in either rendering the employer some losses through team work against the employer as many will definitely complain of his lack of appreciation.

Inasmuch as I like when an employer compliments or reward their employees who are working diligently for the success of their business, i also see it as not a necessity that an employer must compliment his employees. My reason is because for an employer to employ someone, they pass through interview where the employer will get details about the employee and what they can be able to do, so it's already a privilege to be accepted out of many other applicants so it is the duty of the employee to work to the best of his ability and not expect any reward for quality service.

It really depends on one's personality, for some it's important, for some it's not. But one thing is for sure, every employee wants a bonus or reward if they do a job well and a raise if they perform well in a year. But giving simple compliments isn't hard, so just do it, at least they will feel you appreciate their efforts and not resent you. Your relationship will become more harmonious and not heavy.

If I were a boss, I don't want to be completely feared but at least enough for them to do their job right and not slack during work hours. Coz some employees, if you are too kind, they will take advantage of it. Not too kind, not too scary but leaning more on kind.
