I am trying to get something straight for here about those who are addicted to gambling do have same characteristics? I have a friend who is so much attached to gambling and everyone around him knows it was an addiction and when they try to talk to him in regarding the way and manned he is putting much interest to gambling he picks offences and stops to be talking to people because they are like trying to make him understand that his gambling habits is becoming excessive.
If it was you would keep talking to him to reduce how he keeps gambling or you would allow him to continue gambling? And even if he is not paying attention to you?

Since you know that gambling addicts have one habits which is the personal convictions that they are in control and may deciduous stop talking to anyone whi try to talk them out of their conditions, we shouldn't be surprised when they start exhibiting that character, the best thing is to let them be, since even if you talk to them as much as you can, they can never adhering change until their hit the wall and decide to quite by themselves. We should know that addiction is self-affliction, so is it escaped. For an addict to be able to fight addiction, he must be willing to do so; if not, no matter how much the people around point they addiction effects to them, they never take that advice seriously.

The best thing you can do for people who are addicted to gambling is to do nothing because fuck those morons. Those morons deserve to starve. They are absolute scum unworthy of life.

This whole topic isn't focusing on the gamblers who make more, gambling, than everybody else... the politicians. However, the even bigger gamblers are the average people who listen to the politicians and think that the politicians have the answers... even though they lose the most.

It's very difficult to convince a person who doesn't even want to listen, but it is not impossible. Mostly, people show their hard side when they talk and receive a cold response from that friend, which pushes him more towards gambling.
So what we will do is bring him closer to us so that he never feels alone. Whenever he needs you, he can come to you, and for that, you have to show your soft side. Make sure that whenever he wants to talk, you will be there for him. Never leave him alone, nor let him get more loans. With time, when he is ready or in the mood, advise him softly. I am sure he will definitely listen to you when you show that side. Remember, if you show the hard side, he will move further away from you and will never be convinced about the addiction and the bad side of gambling..

You can only urge him to stop based on his level of addiction. If he is deep into it, it's nonsense talking to him; he'll just hear you but eventually ignore you. We love to help friends who are addicted to gambling because we know the consequences or have an idea of the outcome, but just talking will not convince him; the best way to talk him out is when he is sober, like when he loses or the relationships and his jobs are affected. This is when he is vulnerable and will accept suggestions.

First of all people who are addicted to gambling (excessive already) dont quite listen to lectures. Well chances they listen but will definitely ignore and avoid those who talk with them. Its not that Im on their side but a gambler in deep gambling problem needs patience for anyone around them. Like you need to talk and keep talking to them until they realize it. For me its normal as their tendency is to avoid you cause you are like an enemy on what they want.

If I were in your place, I wouldn't bother him by telling him the same thing every day. Because if you keep parroting him "don't gamble" over and over again then he will become more resistant.
I would rather sit down with him in calm moment and talk to him. I would try to make him understand that I am not judging him. But rather worried about his financial situation and his future. If he is in debt or wasting his family's money or failing to fulfill his responsibility then I would talk to him about those IRL examples.

So you are asking why those who get addicted to gambling are very aggressive? It's because they don't believe they are doing anything wrong, and when people try to convince them or tell them that what they are doing is actually wrong, they take offense from that, and instead of realizing or thinking that they are being told these things for their own good, they believe people are trying to keep them away from something they like to do, which is gambling. A gambling addict who doesn't acknowledge the fact that they are addicted to gambling can never be convinced to get away from gambling, because they believe they are not doing anything wrong.
So, those who try to convince them but eventually end up having an argument with them need to understand that you can't convince such people until they realize it themselves. Even if they are spending a lot of money on their gambling activities, and maybe they are always gambling and wasting their time and everything, they can't be convinced with talks, so let them reach the point where they will realize it themselves, and then try and help them. Of course, those who are very close to them will keep trying regardless of how they will behave with them.

A change of character is one of the traits of a person who has just gotten addicted to gambling; they change the way they treat their friends and minimize the time they spend with them. They just don't care what their friends say; they see them as annoying and envious, believing they can make money from gambling. If it was you would keep talking to him to reduce how he keeps gambling or you would allow him to continue gambling? And even if he is not paying attention to you? I'll remain friends and will never stop communicating; there will be a time when he wants to stop and wants someone to listen to him and guide him on how to get out of addiction, you'll be glad that it's you who talk him out of addiction.

People who are addicted spend majority of their time convincing themselves that they're not addicted so it's actually useless to try and stop them because there's only so much you can do especially now that 99% of gambling happens online these days. I think after the initial attempt, it's best to let them keep going till it dawns on them that their hobbies now do them more good than ban because they are doing it too much.

I've noticed the exact opposite behaviour. People who are addicted to gambling over a long period of time before depressed and sedentary. They don't want to bother with anything and don't want to be bothered.
They will not attend social gatherings or try to be at any events. They will just abstain from general life activities as if that's their new normal. It's just plain old depression which I think is becoming too wide or a societal phenomena.n

Yes, I will try to keep reminding him about his excessive gambling habit. Person who becomes addicted to gambling & develops a gambling problem does not merely harm themselves, the negative impact extends to their family & circle of friends. Indirectly, he will cause me trouble in the future if he keeps up that bad habit. When I feel my efforts are futile, I cut that person out of my circle of friends.

Working so hard trying to change somebody else is the hardest of all hard works, you do know how strongly people detest hard work, throwing strength and might into something that responds with a slow progress. Problem players are convicted to playing games, mere words won't stop these guys, kindness and love is the remedy to emotional issues, they need to have some form of respect, likeness for you to listen or consider to think about what you said. In my environment the best solution is always walking up to that person who makes the addict laugh or spill his mind and convince them into doing the talking, most times it's the elderly men and women who implement this method and it converts in helping the general community.

In a situation like that, it gets very hard to advise the person to reduce the way he gamble, and if it is kept that way he will keep on gambling in that manner and it will probably lead him to the bad side of gambling, and with that you actually did him more bad by keeping quiet and leaving him, at the end of the day is the long term result that matters,
If you should stop talking there is no way he will change, he might be aggressive but as a human being that he is there will be some point where he will sit and think about it, he will think about why people are refusing to stop talking to him and he might probably Change
As for me I will not stop talking.

Because addiction puts the person in a situation where impulsivity takes control, and aggressivity is also a quite impulsive behavior, as it is triggered instantly and automatically, since the organism considers the person has to protect himself against an external threat, which in this case, is the fact someone is trying to separate the addicted individual from his desired object (gambling).

People who are deep into gambling normally get defensive when you try to talk to them about it. It is not because they are bad people, it is because they know deep down that it's becoming a problem and they don't want to face it. The aggression is usually a cover for shame or fear. They don't want to be judged, so they push people away before anyone can get too close. If it were me, I will still speak up, but I wouldn't force the issue. You can say your piece once or twice, but if they are not ready to listen, pushing harder will only make things worse. Sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they are willing to change.

This would drain you, promised! Before, I already handled a person like this, a really addicted gambling person. It's really difficult, especially for me, who has really little patience; talking or advising them or even handling them is really difficult. My last choice before was talk to someone that is professional, like some psychological person that expert to handling these but the friend of mine didn't agree to meet any person.
