You can only urge him to stop based on his level of addiction. If he is deep into it, it's nonsense talking to him; he'll just hear you but eventually ignore you.
We love to help friends who are addicted to gambling because we know the consequences or have an idea of the outcome, but just talking will not convince him; the best way to talk him out is when he is sober, like when he loses or the relationships and his jobs are affected. This is when he is vulnerable and will accept suggestions.
There's no point trying to talk or put people out of their misery, mostly when they don't take your ideas, and they are suffering for their mistakes already. When someone is addicted to gambling, they do not listen to anyone's advice because they are already blinded by their urge and greed. However, some gamblers had been addicted to gambling in the past, and now they are no longer addicted to gambling because they tried their best as much as they can to make sure that they get out of it. Honestly speaking, no addicted gambler ever recovered alone, they have someone who always advises them and they listen.

I am trying to get something straight for here about those who are addicted to gambling do have same characteristics? I have a friend who is so much attached to gambling and everyone around him knows it was an addiction and when they try to talk to him in regarding the way and manned he is putting much interest to gambling he picks offences and stops to be talking to people because they are like trying to make him understand that his gambling habits is becoming excessive.
If it was you would keep talking to him to reduce how he keeps gambling or you would allow him to continue gambling? And even if he is not paying attention to you?
Yes. Everyone addicted to gambling has similar traits as I have friends who are addicted. They're difficult to advise because they constantly deny what we say, are easily offended when we talk to them, and even distance themselves from those who constantly bother them. Essentially, if they're not yet addicted to gambling we can still advise them to be careful about their addiction, but if they're already deeply addicted, talking to them is completely pointless. Even what we say goes in one ear and out the other. So, to address such an addiction it's best to stop giving them repeated advice, but show concern without judgment and offer help only if they ask for it. What I mean is, let them bear the consequences of their addiction because that will be a lesson for them to learn. Essentially, we can't force someone to stop gambling because the decision must come from them.

I believe there's nothing we can tell someone whose dopamine has already taken over his/her gambling psychology. The best time to communicate with someone who's already addicted to gambling to the level stated by the OP is when they are already aware that they have a gambling problem, have learned their lesson, and are willing to seek help.

I totally agree with you and this is the same thing i always tell people that you can not help someone who is addicted to gambling when they are not ready or willing to help themselves by first realizing that they are addicted to gambling because advising such person when they have not admitted... will be more like pouring water on a basket and of cause we all know what will happen when water is been poured in a basket. there are also some gamblers who know they are addicted but they have refused to seek help because they feel it is not something serious until they hit a big loss.

Because most of them have a fairly large ego and will always feel offended when it is touched even by the closest person. Not all will be in the same condition but almost most gamblers will have the same pattern where they will have a greater defensive side especially when discussing about addiction problems. But I think this is understandable because most people, including gamblers themselves, think that addiction is something that is considered bad so that when we are seen as gambling addicts, a bad stigma will be attached to the gambler (although this is only based on assumptions and prejudices). Then they will do the defensive side so as not to be considered a gambling addict because their ego will be hurt if viewed badly. The stigma of gambling that still remains seen as bad by the public makes every gambling addict will try to close themselves and access when they are addicted because they do not want to be seen as a bad person in the end.

I once have a brother who was a gambler, and at a point he became addicted, but when we noticed him, we tried very hard to stop him, he was addicted to the extent that he was selling some of his belongings to gamble, so we tackled him so seriously, and even made trouble with him, and finally we succeeded to stop him. On the same vain, if I have a friend who is addicted to gambling, is equally my responsibility to help him out, so even if he is fierce, and doesn't want me to talk to him, I will still try hard, because of I finally succeed, he will be so greatful in return.
Gamblers who are addicted would be very angry with people, and the reason is because, the addicted gamblers loose more money than they win, so each time you try to talk to them, they become so angry because of losses incured as they gamble.

It is one thing that is common with those that are addicted to gambling. They hardly listen to advice , they will always feel defensive whenever anyone tries to advice them about their gambling addiction . In there eyes they didn't see anything wrong with what they are doing. Although, it is not all addicted gamblers that do behave this way. If am you the best way to advise them is to give them some pointers, so that they can be able to see how gambling addiction is affecting negatively. However if this didn't work the best option is to let them be, because they are adults and are responsible for their own actions.

If I really care about his mental health yes and which is why I won't stop talking to him untill it get to his head. Some of these addicts are stubborn so it is hard for them to take your advice seriously even though it is for their own good. So it's only someone who truly care that can be able to stand close to them and advise them to quit . Honestly, someone who doesn't value your advice can turn aggressive if you don't stop it. Because they may feel your re trying to police them but if it is someone who you care about then you will have endure it. .

Maybe there is some sort of common thread that people who have anger issues are more likely to pick up addictive personality traits, but it's probably looking at the situation the wrong way around. It's a human trait that we don't like losing because that means that we were wrong or effectively outsmarted by an opponent, in the wild before civilization that would likely have meant you end up dead to an opponent. We've evolved a long way since then be some people still revert back to these basic instincts which can trigger strong negative emotions that seem to be hard for some people to control. Some people have anger issues but learn to manage it and avoid situations that provoke it, but others simply let the world trigger them over sometimes the smallest little things.

There generalization is wrong, your friend is aggressive because that's his character, he is aggressive because he is a dominant type of person, he doesn't want people to talk down on him and he might be that kind of person that does not like to take correction from people, there are different type of people like that, if you give some people advice they will listen to you but guess what, they will go back and do what they like, they don't like others opinions. If you talk y him and he doesn't want to listen to you, why not leave him and let him be. Gambling addiction is not even a crime, he is responsible for what he is doing and I don't know why you will even want to be taking medicine on another person headache. What if he is winning and he is addicted, are you going to advice him to stop gambling, I doubt about that.

The best thing you can do for people who are addicted to gambling is to do nothing because fuck those morons. Those morons deserve to starve. They are absolute scum unworthy of life.
It cost you absolutely nothing to be nice. Let's be sincere some addicted gamblers are willing to mind their ways but can not fight it alone, the only thing that they need is support and motivation. There's no way you will help who is not willing to change his ways, but as for someone who is loss, hold himself accountable and is willing to change you can support them, but only if humanity still exists in them. We can't consider all addict gamblers to be the same. Some of them are not in that position or situation because they wanted to, but sometimes life throws unexpected events or test at us.

Well you are right and it is now like a normal routine for them. Gambling is very hard to quit and those who already do not usually know that they are addicted that is why when they are gambling and misbehaving they wouldn't know unless someone draws their attention close for them to know that they are going astray. Of course, Gamblers are usually aggressive because when they fall back to what they had already lost while gambling they find it too difficult to quit gambling because they would be that having that mindset that how can they just accept defeat so easily and what about those money they have already lost that is the question they would be asking themselves that is why many of them even at their addicted phase don't still quit in fact that is when they gets aggressively the more.

I am trying to get something straight for here about those who are addicted to gambling do have same characteristics? Every gambler have their own traits, some get physically agressive while others were not. This depends on how the cope with their current situation. Wanting to gamble but unable to because of others restriction may trigger different responses and there are gambler that express their frustration through being aggressive. . If it was you would keep talking to him to reduce how he keeps gambling or you would allow him to continue gambling? And even if he is not paying attention to you?
I will consider my safety first. If the gambler is known for being aggressive when his gambling activities are mentioned, I would rather think carefully before approaching the guy. One discussion is enough, if the guy is willing to change for the better, then he will more like heed the advice. If he does not, then it will only ends into argument and possibly misunderstanding.

I also notice addicted gamblers are very aggressive, for me I don't see any reason of talking to them if you have tried once and their approach isn't pleasing ,one thing about those addicted gamblers they think they have figured out everything and knows what they are doing , trying to put them in the right track seems to be wrong to them ,and they can eventually see you as an enemy which you may lose closeness with them ,such people has a way of communicating with them in order not to be in there blacklist.

On the contrary, I don’t think those who are addicted to gambling are aggressive. They are one of those calmest people you’ll meet, most of them stay in doors and don’t even like talking to people. You can be living with them in the same building but they are just there minding their business and think about the next game at hand, and the money involved. That can be angry sometimes but not like always being aggressive, of course everyone can get angry and not necessarily attributing it to because they are gambling addict.
It is the talking to them that makes them aggressive cause the calm ones are the ones with money reserves, so to them losing just feels bad, no much wahala but then i tell you, if you try to make them accountable for the money they lose on the regular, you will see how aggressive they can truly be. I mean imagine someone losing millions and still calms and then all of sudden you want to advise them, they will just explode on you.

You are asking a very good question here, and the answer to it traces back to how addictions form and how they work. Sometimes people do not consider the subtle effects of addictive gambling until they become very apparent and then they wonder how does this happen. When you gamble a lot it is not just your finances or your relationships that suffer, it changes you deeply in your brain and with that your personality and responses start changing. Aggressiveness is just one of the many symptoms that can appear, and people can actually get very strong withdrawal symptoms if they are absent from gambling. Maybe the worst examples of this you can see when you confront them with their problem because they are very strongly in self denial, some people get more aggressive but others more defense. So actually long before you get to the point where you would respond with strong aggressiveness, the issue of gambling has created many strong changes in your brain. It happens in that phase where people don't think they have a problem or that they won't have a problem, but it has been in progress for a long time already. But this is not limited only to gambling, so it comes up with other kinds of aggression. With some it comes more than with others, but it also depends on the person. Like you know when some people get drunk and they become very friendly, while some others get very aggressive. It is a bit similar to that. So a person that is never aggressive even if they are confident, will more likely not respond with aggressiveness even in addiction but will respond in other ways. I think alcohol was the one that they found to have one of the strongest links to aggressive behavior.

Such people are the reason why gamblers keep their addiction secret. When you blame and insult addicts for their conditions, they will decide to suffer alone and won't seek help. You did well to enlighten that user that these addicts need our support. Calling them names and attacking them might cause more harm.
Remember that these people are frustrated by this lack of control. They are always losing, so you might be unlucky to meet them when they are troubled because of losses. At that point the can be aggressive. It's simply: help those who ask for it and forgo those who think they are okay. Until they accept that they have problems, efforts to help them might be fruitless.

The recovery process of an addict is always the most difficult part of everything, that’s why it is reiterated more not to get so addicted to something because they’re not easily contained to leave the body immediately one decides to leave those things for good. Their body system has already adjusted to that and it is making it even more difficult for them to detach from it. Those external symptoms of some of this addicts are a result of the body shift from their normal way of reasoning to how they reason now and react to things. During recovery process, not having the one to always give you that advise and follow up on the recovery process may take you forever and still not achieve what you want after a long term. Prevention they say is better than cure. It is better to avoid getting addicted than trying to leave addiction when you’re already addicted to it.

You can only urge him to stop based on his level of addiction. If he is deep into it, it's nonsense talking to him; he'll just hear you but eventually ignore you.
It is more like asking a draining man for a composure, of course he will just listen to whatever thing you have to say then when you're done talking he will just walk out on you. That is why sometimes it looks as if a therapist isn't working because the gambler itself have not make up thier mind to stop or even accepting the fact that he or she is addicted to gamble. Although sometimes consistent advice could help, But a therapist tend to work faster when the gambler realize that he's addicted to gamble but doesn't know the steps to take that would make them stop the addiction completely at that point they will now have to see a therapist.

Sometimes when a user is deeply addicted into gambling, advising such individual to be mindful of his gambling activities usually always feels like you are a distraction to them, while forgetting the fact that you only came to help l, simply because you care about their irresponsible gambling behavior. And for me, if I'm opportune to have a friend who acts this way, I will never stop advising him and trying every possible means to prevent him or her from constantly having access to his gambling activities, which could be either from a physical casino or mobile phone access. And possibly if it gets worse, take him to a rehabilitation center where he will be examined, and necessary prevention measures will be put in place so that he doesn't fall back into getting addicted with gambling again.
