All teams have released information & visuals regarding the jerseys they are wearing this season, all of them are free of gambling advertisements on the front. Is this an effective way to curb underage gambling? It might well be.

Personally I'm not convinced to die extent that gambling promotions on the player Jersey really have an impact on underage gambling or exposing them to it, but since it is what the government supported and it has been approved as well by the regulatory bodies to avoid advertising on gambling through this medium, I think we all have to support same, now that gambling is no longer included on their advertisement on players Jersey, I hope they won't find more reason to complain about other organizations that promotes in a similar manner.

What I value from this action is that the clubs collectively care about the current conditions. After all, the league is not entirely opposed to gambling, it is only opposed to irresponsible gambling. They are looking for better ways to promote gambling sites.

The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.
The information wont favor casinos trying to run Ads on T-shirts.

Everton once had a decent partnership with Stake as one of their biggest sponsor. But Everton's new 2026/2027 jersey displays CMC Market at the front. And Stake at the top side of the jersey.

Interestingly, Stake will have no choice but to reduce the agreed sponsorship amount with the company. I suspect all casinos sponsoring a football club must have done the same thing.

People who are underaged are not meant to gamble, possibly children below the age of 18 years as stated in the terms and conditions of many gambling platforms, but it is not actually working because their is no enforcement of this law. Today in many countries, underaged people do gamble, both online, and in shops, but if the law is enforced, and children who are underaged are punished for gambling, children who are underaged will entertain fear , and possibly desist from gambling.

Betting companies appears in front of jerseys as a way of promoting the betting companies, and not for children who are underage to engage in gambling, and honestly enforcement is the only strategy I think can solve this problem, and not prohibiting teams from promoting betting companies.

People usually under-estimate the intelligence of teens and children when comes to bypassing obstacles which are supposed to prevent them from gambling, smoking or even consuming alcohol.
I remember when I was a teen, there were some guys of my age which smoked and even gambled/played cards in our school.

If someone (teens included) actually want to gamble, they will find a way to do so, they right thing to do by both bookies, casinos and regulators is to make things as difficult as possible for those kids to gamble away the money of their parents and possibly getting addicted to gambling at a very young age.
This is not the key argument in a topic like this. Even if they were unable to bypass restrictions it would have a big effect an effect on them because of the repeated exposure. I have talked about this in this thread, most of the effectiveness of advertising does not come from someone having access to the product or not. It is about creating associations in their brain and making them as deep as possible, it is like a big propaganda machine. This is the reason why many tourists go to famous fast food chains when they visit other countries when there is far better food and cheaper everywhere around them, because they have been exposed so many times to this and eventually they started to eat it and create a deep habit. So even if kids are not able to access the websites if they had strict KYC, they would join the gamblers when they grow up to become adults. This is why they need to be protected strongly, and not with some cheap measures like the one here. We can say that this measure is something, but we can not say that it has a significant effect on the children.

This is the time for football clubs and leagues to prove themselves. They will now have to choose between protecting underage children and making money from casinos at the expense of minors who are also great lovers of football. It is good that they chose to reduce the visibility of these casinos on jerseys. It is indeed a good move towards protecting underage children from being influenced to gamble.

However, I am still not satisfied. They can do better by removing all forms of casino promotions. Casinos should not be advertised openly where children and people of unstable minds can be triggered to try gambling.

Young fans should be protected at all costs. We all know the level of influence football has on children. You can imagine what they would do if their favourite footballer wears a jersey promoting a certain casino.

In your opinion, how effective do you think this move will be to achieve the aim it is for since names and logos of gambling companies will still be branded visibly at other areas of the matchday shirts?
The decision is lame itself and I wonder how people in power think; perhaps, they use their legs to think rather than their brains. If they want to help in reducing gambling-related issues or underage consumption, that shouldn't be it. You are banning players from wearing a jersey that bears gambling companies name, but the field is littered with it. As if that wasn't enough, the TV/app frequent advertisement during the match is persist in addition. If they don't see it on the jersey, ain't they seeing it elsewhere? It's just a way to deprive the clubs of their earnings, IMO.

I don't think it's really that effective, but it's still better than displaying names or logos directly on the front of matchday shirts. At least the exposure of brand text to children can be reduced, and allowing them to be less directly influenced by those brands. While it doesn't eliminate the influence of sponsorships, I think it's also a positive thing, as it's unlikely to eliminate sponsorships entirely since these sponsors provide significant financial support to the league. So they need to find a more balanced solution.

Restrictions rarely fixes or solves the real problem of overexposure in gambling. If the goal is to reduce too much exposure in the gambling industry, then focusing on their shirts or jerseys is a total waste of time if you ask me, because there are several other places that gambling ads and materials are being scattered everywhere. The best place to start with should be social medias, if they can achieve to reduce the exposure of gambling on the various social media platforms, then the rest becomes a piece of cake.

I didn't know there was such an agreement and development coming this new season. It's a good step taken in the right direction. I'd also like to see them tighten gambling monitoring this season so we can be sure that all teams are actively competing to the best of their abilities and not inflating or deflating stats or goals just to favour certain gambling markets over others.

Sounds simple in theory until you realize gambling sponsorships goes a long way for most of these teams. So gambling won't go away anytime soon

The agreement that clubs had in 2023 to stop the display of names of betting companies' logos at the front of their matchday shirts will take effect from the new season. Names and logos of betting companies can fit into any other place in the shirt, not just the front.

https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/3147426?

The major reason for this development is to help control and reduce exposure of the underage to gambling advertisements through football games.

In your opinion, how effective do you think this move will be to achieve the aim it is for since names and logos of gambling companies will still be branded visibly at other areas of the matchday shirts?
I don't know how much this step will keep minors away from gambling, but are minors attracted to seeing the name and logo of a casino company on a jersey? I would say that minors can be attracted to gambling in various ways, such as through advertisements on various social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc., but to keep minors away from gambling completely, they must be kept away from their mobile phones, they must be focused on education, and every parent must be aware.

It's not clear if there are going to be other areas that the logos of gambling platforms/companies are going to be visible from what I read in the premier league link that you shared, perhaps I didn't understood the whole content but I doubt that. And from what they went on to say, they're also working on creating a platform for responsible gambling sponsorship, which sounds more of like trying to promote responsible gambling and not promoting the gambling itself.

Well, I don't really know how it's going to affect those clubs with sponsorships, but I think it's going to have a very little or no effect especially when they decide to only remove it from the front shirt. A complete withdrawal is not even a guarantee considering the fact that old time gamblers are already aware. But for someone who hasn't gambled before, there's a chance that the removal of such logo can actually play have a positive impact.

I'd also like to see them tighten gambling monitoring this season so we can be sure that all teams are actively competing to the best of their abilities and not inflating or deflating stats or goals just to favour certain gambling markets over others.

The best place to start with should be social medias, if they can achieve to reduce the exposure of gambling on the various social media platforms, then the rest becomes a piece of cake.

Sounds simple in theory until you realize gambling sponsorships goes a long way for most of these teams. So gambling won't go away anytime soon

Teams need sponsorships to cater their athletes, and so they need the money coming from their sponsors. So we can't totally eradicate these gambling sites sponsoring some teams. But they need to comply with the rules or the protocols that come with it in terms of advertising gambling sites.

I totally get what you are saying.
I am the kind of person who would immediately go to a Starbucks in a travel to the United States or the European Union, even though I have heard coffee on Starbucks is rather mediocre and it is several times worse than what one can find here in my country.

So you imply that massive advertisement is aiming to create consumers in the long term? Even if part of the public is not able to access to those products and services? Because it kind of makes sense, and I had not thought about it before.

As gambling and betting get more embedded in western culture, I can see future generations here to get more into risking their money in the shortest period possible.

In my opinion it is always a good move to not put something such as this entirely front and center for everyone to see and I think it will be a good outcome in the next season to protect younger folks and keep the game focused on what it is and not on the sponsors
Regardless of whether the gambling logo is small or large, people will still notice it. But if they make it too small, then what is the point of putting it on the team’s shirt? The casino will not really benefit from an advertisement that is almost hidden. So it may be better not to place it there at all. If they want to promote a gambling brand, there is no point in trying to hide it.

But I think the main issue is still the regulation in that country. Maybe gambling ads were banned or restricted, so teams are only allowed to display them in a limited way. From what I have seen, though, many of the teams still seem to have gambling-related sponsors.

Yeah true, why would any gambling companies continue to display their name when the logo is so small? I mean video highlights and everything involved you get a lot of exposure on close ups and thats all you really need right? Something recognizable and enough to plant a seed. I think you're right though the regulations in those countries have a lot to do with it
