Sending merit to AI generated post can be very painful but it does happen because it is extremely difficult to check every post before sending merits. Some AI generated post does not usually appear like AI especially when the author do some twerking to deceive readers, in such case, it becomes difficult to know that the posts were generated through AI. AI generated posts are just like plagiarism that is forbidden anywhere in the world. I remembered the case of Ratimov who later changed his name to Symmetrick, he was famous for creating very interesting topics but unfortunately, plagiarized lost of them. I'm sure people who poured merits in some of those his post regretted giving those merits but there was nothing they could do. This is the same regret anyone should feel when they merit posts that are AI generated.
You know that parable of Jesus in the Bible about not giving the children's meat to the dogs. That is exactly how I see it with AI posts when it is revealed later on that certain merits received by a particular post was in fact an AI generated post. I do not blame the merit sender though cause they out of good will decides to reward what appeared to be a quality post they have come across, in a time when post quality reduction is becoming a nightmare for the forum.

This left me with two questions; - If you come across a high-quality post from a lower-ranked member, do you merit it immediately or do you first check their posting history?
- Do you think looking at a user's history is a form of due diligence or should merit be based solely on the quality of the individual post?
I rarely give merits to posts outside of Portuguese local board, so I usually end up awarding them to people that I already know, people whose reputations I am familiar and whose original posts I can easily recognize. That also makes it easy to tell whether they are using AI, because I am already familiar with their usual writing style and posting habits. But, if I see a good post outside of local board, I think it is very unlikely that I would open the author's profile to check the post history.... if the content is useful, accurate and well written, I think it deserves recognition of one or two merits, I do not think that makes much difference. Because if this person in fact using AI to write their posts, sooner or later they will be caught and any merits they previously earned will have been for nothing.

All these tools use a sort of score to estimate if the content is AI generated. Besides the ones that you mentioned here, I mean the length of the sentence and its type, there are specific words and repetitive wording that are checked too to say if it was most likely AI generated or not. From what I noticed here, the amount of people using it in a way or another is shocking. These tools are far from detecting all of them and it might flag legitimate posts. False positive..
Well, I checked my own posts with the AI detector, and it sometimes gives false positives. You have to keep that in mind when you check the posts using these tools. High-ranked forum users are unlikely to use AI tools to generate posts since the standard is kind of established already; the community does not appreciate AI-generated content. Some accounts probably changed hands, and they might use AI tools, but you need to check at least a dozens of their posts to be confirmed that they are using AI to generate the contents.

I must say, sometimes I do merit a post immediately. It happens when the opinion is not popular, but one that is very close to what I think. Most of the time it's a genuine post, not AI generated one, because AI will hardly generate something going against the popular view. But sometimes, fortunately, it happens less often than once in a year, I check the post with an AI checker and when it says, "100% AI", I look closely, and see that, yes, I merited an AI-generated post.

I understand that, but as I said, that's not the post I was referring to, as he linked another post that was also deleted and person who wrote it got tagged. That's the one I believe was made with AI.

I admit that I rarely merit someone because nowadays I'm not spending much time here. You've made 14093 posts in total, and about 200 in the last 2 months. The only way to not spend much time here is if you're only posting without reading anything, which explains why you're barely earning any Merit.

200 posts in 2 months - you made it to look like it would be a lot, but it's 3-4 posts a day. And you're completely wrong that I'm posting without reading. Usually I post in same old topics that I follow each day, or in fresh topics that has maybe 15-20 replies - it doesn't takes much time to read every post there. I don't see much point to post in longer topics because with my 45th reply there I can't add anything new. Or of it's continous discussion, most of time I don't have time to read everything from beginning till the end to add my input. But anyway, this topic isn't about me. I still remember recommendations that had the use of AI pages that helps in correcting sentences but today it’s not longer a correction but a complete use for generation of walls of text,
Yeah, fixing grammar, spelling and style is correct use of AI, but unfortunately, good tool now is used for bad purpposes too much. Maybe this post? It currently has 120 merits and I have checked it with a couple of AI detectors which show that it is 100% Ai generated content. The conclusion is clear, none of the merits senders have checked whether it is about AI and whether the story has any real basis or is just a fabrication. So far, that user has not provided any proof that he is a victim, so the conclusion is very clear. It's 119 merits actually. I followed your link but the post has been deleted because I can't find it. I read through many posts to come across the user until I landed on his profileSad to see people taking advantage of every opportunity including the unfortunate ones. Ai is doing us more harm than good recently. But I disagree with people that say if the post is too perfect, it's definitely AI. That should depend on users. If a bad poster suddenly change to good poster overnight, that's an obvious case.

I looked at his first 5 pages of his post history and I can say above 89% of his post from the first to the fifth page is mostly gambling related post few post on other boards, which justifies him not earning enough merit. I remember some members with large merit sendables used to complain about how bad people use English making communication or message expression difficult which makes them not to merit those bad English post but however I still remember recommendations that had the use of AI pages that helps in correcting sentences but today it’s not longer a correction but a complete use for generation of walls of text, I wonder what will be the fate of those members now. Anyways I agree with you that I prefer bad English to soulless AI generated text.
The AI Spam Report Reference thread is 120 pages long. Eventually, they are likely to be caught and reported. They might also be banned from wearing a signature considering who the creator of the thread is. In some cases, they might even be banned for plagiarism, like what happened to summonerrk and his alt accounts. People might think they are clever because they use humanizers or complex AI prompts that makes their text less detectable, but fluent English speakers can usually sense when something sounds artificially generated. When they are noticed, they might not be immediately reported but they will be watched more closely. If maintaining a decent reputation is important to a member, then it will be better to use their natural writing abilities than trying to pass of AI content as their own.

I'm not meriting the new user's profile but that particularly post, so why would I be checking all his post? If people should be that cautious, I wonder the post that would natural attract merits despite being of high quality. Anyone doing that is just overly cautious. For what? If a post ever struct me as merit-worthy, and I have enough merit(s) to share, I would gladly give it.

Yes, I check their posting history and reputation. I attach merit to the character of the poster; if he's been reported as an AI user, then it's likely that his post is AI-generated, so I save my merits for those more deserving, but I sometimes make an exception if I feel the post creates a good discussion and it's unlikely to be an AI generated.

Sometimes it’s not all about coming across a merit worthy post, the question is what really comes through your mind if come across a new user with such a merit worthy post, are you doubting the ability of such user to construct such post or not. Some persons only want to give out merit to a merit worthy post when they come across one, while others still have max feelings about the post. When come across a particular post and you feel any doubt about giving out merit to such a post, probably suspicious of AI, rather than going through the entire post history of the user at that very moment it will be more better to focus attention on the very post in question.

I am very surprised to see a poster like you can discuss about post quality. You are only skillful by knowing where to get merit easily and quickly sending your sendable merit to other accounts. It's quite easily to click on your account, see merit transaction history, see how you received merit and sent smerit, that together shows a fact that you don't mind about post quality, and checking suspicious AI posts. Similarly to another user commented in another post previously in this thread, and there are some accounts in this thread that I don't mind to reply to or mention the names. If I was you, I would stay away from this thread and never try to show off and teach how to check post quality, how to send merit.

I recently came across a unexpectedly good post from a newbie. My first instinct was to send merit, but i hesitated. Instead, I visited the user's profile to see whether the quality of that post was consistent with their previous contributions. My restrain is probably because the rise of ai generated posts on the forum. This has made me realize that ai may not only be changing the behavior of those who abuse the forum, but also the behavior of every other members who evaluate posts. This left me with two questions; - If you come across a high-quality post from a lower-ranked member, do you merit it immediately or do you first check their posting history?

No for real, i didnt give so much merit to anyone. I prefer to let the smerits go away instead of give it to post that didnt really worth it. About the main thing of your thread, i feel like we can all know when something is full of IA so it didnt change anything for me at all if i saw the garbage IA somewhere im gonna skip it and if it is so much IA probably im gonna repport it. I dont see so much long post made by IA in the sections i ussualy use so for me nothing change.

It's not that hard to tell whether a post was written by AI or by a real person. If you read the forum enough, you can usually tell the difference. There might be some that slip through the radar. But a few merits here and there don't affect the whole system at all. Once something like that comes to light, that user usually won't get any more merit anyway.
Merit is given to individual posts. A user might have plenty of ordinary posts, but then they make one post that they put a lot of effort into, that's the one that earns merit.

I would not care too much if a post has been created or not with or without AI. however, without mentioning specific cases, have you tried ever to read one of these - random posts ? The long list of errors that you find inside, or even the poor grammar construct would make just a waste of time read a post. If the outcome could be seen as useful, and it would be used positevely (no red trust), I would not have doubts for add a merit. What I would see as important: it could become impressively boring have a forum with AI resources/long wall of text.
