Actually, you are right about that, but gambling can only be a good distraction in difficult times when the gamble is gambling wisely. No matter what, if at all you as a gambler don't have discipline, there's a very high chance that gambling will make the situation worse because gambling itself is already risky, so not gambling responsibly opens room for addictions, which will of course make the situation worse.

I honestly don't know how people are able to gamble in difficult times because if you really have issues bothering you I'm not sure you would have the time to gamble. I don't even like relying on self control during gambling session. Because things can get pretty intense quickly especially when person started to be loosing or when the person start to be winning. It is very possible that person even enter gambling with the mind of spending only a small amount, but after losing they may start thinking of trying to recover back the money that was lost. In a case when emotions have taken over, even your high level of self control sometimes cannot save your ass from following with that desire.

That's  the reason why before even gambling person should first set their limits. Before gambling they have to decide how much money they will spend in that bet and the hour of time they will spend while gambling and what point they will stop.
