The policies of any government in power is mostly geared at affecting the living standards of the citizens. It really does not affect them in power because they still get rich from being paid huge bonuses and salaries and still borrow, while the citizens have to pay back from their income.
We have seen quality drop and alternatives become the new choice because inflation is a problem and the companies that produce quality reduce their quality input because they want more profit while selling at a higher price.

The funny thing is that when it comes to voting period where the government in power can be voted out, same citizens complaining about the current harsh reality would still sell their votes cheaply without remembering the suffering they endured all the years.

I think we as citizens of any country who experience this kind of economic scenario should do well to increase our earnings and stop relying on the government. We should seek for good alternatives and learn to be efficient while managing what we have.

When someone is not used to the basic lifestyle that the government owes us, the bare minimum looks like the best option we could have, that's the mindset the government has instilled in the mind of the people. They would make you feel like less suffering from more suffering is the best improvement, and would tag that as "reform" which sounds absurd to me. We are filled with corrupt politicians in every sector that would prioritize their selfish interest over the interest of the people, how can our reality be any better?

An example, in this 3 years a product that was sold for $1 is now sold for $4 with citizens struggling to afford what was once common products for every home, yet the government by their balance of higher net income into the federation account claims the economy is now better than how they met it, coming into political power. Is the government just being insensitive? If it were in your country what would be your opinion on this even with the figures the government are showing to have gained for the country.
What do you expect from the government, do you think that they will admit that they've failed? No they will never admit that. An incumbent government will always find a way to praise themselves and even their supporters will do the same, that is just the truth. The government will do everything to manipulate the citizens and this is just something that happens in every government, if you are a government official you will get a tip of what the government is doing to deceive the citizens. You're even talking about what they use the money that was realized from subsidy removal, have you asked about what they did with those money that they claimed they recovered from looted funds. Let me tell you, even the projects that the government claims they spent billions, it never happened. Those are the areas that they use in looting funds but they will come to news broadcast and lie that they spent so amount on infrastructure and all that. Believe the government at your own peril.

One thing that keeps me amazed about this whole concept of government this and government that is the fact that we can't really 100% say if we were the ones on those seats we would be able to make things difficult or not. That being said from a general perspective, we can all agree that the governments don't always tell us every piece of information about why they make certain decisions at first. Still they just say it's for the economy, yet those choices don't make any impact on us, the people. So perhaps they should be more open by showing everyone where the extra cash is being kept....

The problem is government says they made a huge innovation, yet there is no proof of it in the economy. It's easy to say that if those savings are not put back into the community to reduce the citizen's everyday expenses and as well to make the cost of living easier for families over time, then the public is completely justified in demanding answers because the governments are responsible. That's all....

Greed is the downfall of our society, bad government could be literally pinning us against the wall but when the politicians gives government positions or finances to influential people they become in complete support of the government.

I won't blame anyone who is seeing the bare minimum as a big deal, the mind can actually be captured, imagine being used to abject poverty and government brazing illegalities and corruption but when ever the simplest good they do then we believe this is the right person
Th search of good government could make a nation move from bad to evil.

But from basic economic indicator can we say a government economic reforms is actually successful because it has increased the government net income. Meanwhile households living standard isn't affected in any positive ways. The quality of living standards for the citizens has rather reduced, price of products (unstable) skyrocketing on a daily.
An example, in this 3 years a product that was sold for $1 is now sold for $4 with citizens struggling to afford what was once common products for every home, yet the government by their balance of higher net income into the federation account claims the economy is now better than how they met it, coming into political power. I don't like the current government if I'm been honest with you but I can tell you that there is no any government anywhere that will change the economy of Nigeria within 4 years. Let's drop the bullshit propaganda been played by different political parties simply because they want to get peoples vote, even US that is one of the biggest economy is still face with economy, the Nigerian economy is at the back for many years that it will be so hard to fix.

We can't complain about increase in price when literally everything is subsidized, the price you are getting items you think are inflated are the real price, the price you were getting most of them is because the price was subsidized, the dollar was 2 times the value it was traded in the market but as soon as the government let it flow, prices went so high which is why we all are feeling it, this economy reform should have happened way back before now but it was delayed because of political interest.

If the standard of living of the average citizens are still very poor, what then is the value of an inflated net income to the economy? An improved economy is not determined just by the net income in the national treasury, the first and very obvious effect should be seen in the citizens who will testify that the economy has improved, not the government trying to explain to everyone that they are doing a good job.

A corrupt government can do anything to prove that they are trying; even as far as inflating figures to deceive those who do not know them yet. If the government is yet to compensate the citizens with increased minimum wage/increased wages, job opportunities, basic amenities, incentives to business owners etc, all for removing subsidies from essential commodities and services, thereby making the citizens suffer, then they are doing a very had job.

There's always a side effect of those subsidies and reforms that they do. It's an example of how to balance things and if the government is so competent in managing it, there shouldn't be a side effect of those services or if there is then there's a slight or little effect from it. I think no matter how efficient a government is, with how the global economy works, there's no way to stop inflation. Although it's a basic service that they should uplift the kind of living and make things affordable for every citizens and gets the basic services that everyone needs.

If you are referring to Nigeria, only the VAT that people were not playing was removed, but there is still more that would be removed. The government said they will start removing the subsidy starting from I think next year. People in Nigeria should expect increase in electricity bill starting from next year, but I do not know if Band A users will be affected because 5000 naira for 22 KWH of electricity which is very expensive. More expensive than getting a solar system to power your house and offices.

Nigeria has not been a good country since a long time ago, it is only getting worse every time. The recent government just like everyway to tax their citizens and inflation did not stop.
If they should remove subsidy, it will definitely make things harder for the citizens, because you see a country like Nigeria even with subsidy citizens still voice out complaining of hardship, then imagine what will become of most of them if subsidy is removed.
There are other ways to have a better economy, at this moment removal of subsidy doesn't look like the best option, what ever you do you should do it in favour of the citizens, that is why they are elected as leaders, because the citizens trust them to make life easier for them.  But the action to remove subsidy will only make things harder for them

...
A country with a functional government will have factors and measures put in place to ensure that even if subsidy is suspended or removed completely from product that citizens are well prepared to be able to accommodate the changes and not be swallowed up by the new realities of things that they need to face because some economy actually encourage poverty a lot because of how unstable they can be due to some factors like this because why take away subsidy that should be helping and then not offer any form of assistance. That signals insensitivity.

Subsidy removal is supposed to be a strategic move that will take place after all necessary plans as the alternative means of survival before it can be done, removing it without a well structured plan is same as increasing citizens chances of suffering.
For example,  in 2023 the current president of Nigeria removed fuel Subsidy without making provision for alternative means of closing the gap, now the inflation level in Nigeria has gone beyond expectation and can not be controlled until the mentioned alternative is identified to help balance the situation at hand.  Therefore a good government most not forget that every step has its own prepared alternative when dealing with economy related matters.

Numbers can be manipulated, they can say income or revenue has increased, but that's not really the main indicator that a country's economy has improved.

For me, what really matters is what ordinary people actually feel, if their standard of living has improved, if they can afford food, secure a good future for their children, send them to school, get proper healthcare and other basic needs.

If people can really feel those improvements in their daily lives, then that would justify the numbers they are showing.

Well the reverse of what you said is the case in my country, there's no improvement and the inflation rate has increased so bad that even the middle class are struggling to afford three square meals. How can people improve their daily lives when all the government care about is taxing and looting tax payers funds?
The healthcare sector is poor and doctors are embracing the "Japa" solution (emigration) to survive, the educational sector is poor and teachers have to conduct strikes and suspend teaching so government can meet their needs, people can't afford good living cause cost of living is on the high, so how would the furure of the next generation be safe? As for the ordinary man in my country the majority has lost hope.

Nigeria has not been a good country since a long time ago, it is only getting worse every time. The recent government just like everyway to tax their citizens and inflation did not stop.
I disagree to this, do you know there was a time $1 was equal to ₦0.5? Now $1 is  ₦1380. The country started degrading only after Abacha took the IMF loan.

The economy was better and people lived better lives during Yar'adua and Goodluck regimes. A litre of fuel was  ₦65 then and Electricity was still much available and cheaper, life was better until Buhari came into power and then Tinubu which is end of discussion. My point in all this was Nigeria was a better country until 2015.

In my country the government has made subsidy removal on petrol, electricity and a other things I can't remember right now. Some economic reforms has being made and implemented for three years still going, and the government claims that this decisions has helped improved the country's economy by making the government save billions that were spent on subsidy and the currency gaining strength. On their part the economy has improved and better than how they met it.
The last time fuel subsidy existed was in 2015 before change of government, after then there was nothing like fuel subsidy, government diverted the funds. The excessive borrowing of the government depreciates the currency the more which has reduced its purchasing power of which more units of the currency is used now to buy what lesser units could purchase earlier.

Citizens pay back these loans from increased taxations on companies that deal with consumable goods, services, motor parts, household gadgets e.t.c and this is why the prices more than tripled in 3 years. It's funny some people think we are safe from those debts, while we continue paying them indirectly everyday.

Perfectly said, there is no way that the government will admit it has made mistakes. Even if they are caught in the act, they will still deny it and make you look like a liar. And this is how they get people to believe and accept their claims because they deceived people with lies and most people believe what they say because they are convinced by those claims. You are right, believing everything governments say is risky, because their behaviour will not change, as they will become increasingly corrupt which could increase crime rather than help and support the people.

Any government that point blank brags more about saving millions or billions but in the other hand its own ordinary and working class citizens struggles are being neglected, can not call what they are doing an economic reform. Because the real evidence that supports any country's economic progress is the standard of living of its people, not the amount of revenue being generated into the federation's account. One truthful thing across global politics is that almost all governments usually manipulate stats and figures just to make themselves appear good in the international stage, but no matter how hard they try to cement the hardship, the real inflation rate in the market does not lie.

Why remove subsidy if you don't have a solution to stabilize the market price? This is one of the very few things you observe from a government that has no plans for their masses, all the money that was removed from subsidy, can a record be kept on where it went and how it was used?

The same government removing subsidies is still the one taking more loans than any other government, to an extent we had to beg the World Bank to refuse granting further loans, a government that isn't accountable for how the country's funds are managed.

This is not a concern of the president alone, governors are given a cut, what are they doing with the money? This sort of corruption runs through all chains of the government, the easiest way to resolve this issue is to vote in a competent government that has the country at heart.

In fact, the truth is that the way the government has structured the economy, the government's calculations and the people's standard of living and purchasing power are working against each other. The reason for this is repeated government changes and corruption, many may say that there is no corruption in countries where there is no democracy? Yes, there is, but in comparison, the condition of the people of those countries is lower based on inflation. When the economy of a country is tied to another superpower, the economic basis of that nation is the tax money of the people, due to which the purchasing power of the people decreases and inflation increases. So it seems to me that Bitcoin can be considered as one of the many tools to solve these problems. Which is a hedge against inflation and a store of value and borderless.

If gasoline does not have subsidies, it will certainly be based on global prices and selling prices, and this fuel will have an impact on production and distribution costs that will increase selling prices because producers need to take advantage of the goods they sell that are adjusted to the capital they spend on production and distribution costs, indirectly inflation will certainly occur, especially in this chaotic world condition, where fuel prices fluctuate greatly.

In my opinion, gasoline or fuel subsidies must remain to stabilize production and distribution costs, then focus on local economic development, the government needs to provide interest allowances for Entrepreneur loans, MSMEs they must really work as an economic force, if the circulation of money in the community is very good will have an impact on national economic growth, the government and the community must work together in this regard.

It completely depends on the policies of a state's government. Only in those states where the government manages the country responsibly and diligently do the claims turn into reality. As a result, the suffering of the people is significantly reduced, and they are able to earn a livelihood very easily. Considering my state, they never manage the country with integrity. This leads to many economic weaknesses, and the people have to face various kinds of hardships.

Therefore, the government is planning big, but in reality, the opposite has happened. Because one of the main goals in their claims was to increase employment. However, based on the current situation, 84 companies have been forced to shut down. As a result, more than 60,000 people have fallen into unemployment. This has had a similar widespread impact not only in the workplace but also in the healthcare sector. Day labourers and low-income individuals are suffering as a result.

The government must be composed of honest and sincere individuals, so that there is no corruption. Only a corruption free state is beneficial for everyone. Otherwise, everything is in disaster.

On their part the economy has improved and better than how they met it....

Well, according to you, your country's government claims that since they have removed the subsidy on some specific thing, they are now able to save some costs, and because of this your country econmy start to boost again, right? May I ask you, have you personally done any research on it personally to verify whether the government is lying or telling the truth? Did you check your currency rate against the dollar or any other strong currency? Did it improve even a little or not?

Did you find any other factors regarding this matter that can help you to verify what is the real-time things going on in your country? My advice to you is that never trust any political statement, and if you still believe any of them so first do your own research for the variffication of thier saying. This is the best way to reach your own way of thinking or finding the answer. Now days there are a lot of reports you can found on internet to find the econmical growth of your country in the past years and the currect time. By comparing them, you will get the answer regarding this matter yourself.
