The truth is that government doesn't really care about her people, that is why things keeps getting so expensive day by day, corruption is the worst of it all ,most of the leaders are corrupted and are just looting money without putting somethings into consideration, many citizens are forced to face reality by themselves, when economy of a country is poor what do you expect from such a country , imagine goods and product that was way cheaper 2 ,3years ago ,now it's not longer affordable for many , the economy need to improve, and change is what can help achieve such milestone we wished .

Speaking of the current situation in Nigeria, we are going through this very bitter reality. Since the government removed petrol and electricity subsidies and introduced free convertibility of our currency, the cost of living of the common man has increased three to four times. The government shows statistics that their income has increased and record amounts of money are being deposited in the state coffers. But when the cost of food and transportation in the market is skyrocketing, these paper bills have no value to the common Nigerian. And when the government claims to be successful in the midst of this extreme suffering of the people, it can be called mere insensitivity.

One thing I know the Nigerian government is good at is how to lie. Every sitting government does claim that they're doing better than the previous government, while in reality they are doubling the hardship more than what Nigerian citizens faced.
The people who are not Nigerians or living outside Nigeria don't know what Nigeria faces every day. You can imagine how things have tripled within a few years, all in the name of "government remove subsidy from petrol''. This same government is telling us the economy has improved.
Which economy has improved? The dollar-to-naira rate is high; things are expensive, companies are leaving Nigeria, there is no employment, farmers are scared to go to farms because of insecurity, and many other things not mentioned.

The success and failure of a country in managing the economy can be seen from inflation conditions. If the price of an item used to be $1 and now it is $4, it contradicts the statement made by the government. They cannot be trusted at all, covering up the dilapidated system for the sake of maintaining the country's image in the eyes of investors. Now if the government alone is not transparent about its performance then why do we continue to pay taxes obediently? This is not about the anti-tax movement, but about the right that must be returned to society for its contribution to the state. Yes, a working economy of any nation is determined by citizens state of living, what I understand with this government status quo of leadership is self-centred achievement because if government is actually removing subsidy to improve the economy of the country then the citizens welfare should be of high priorities, the instance I gave earlier when before government came into an office a product can be purchased for $1 and now same product is extra $3 cost, that doesn't show progress to my understanding But the same government will be claiming to better the seconomy of the country by gaining foreign investors who will buy their ideas of effective fake leadership with much hunger on the common man who can't afford the new life of the increase rates or standard of living base on the failing minimum wage of N70k. They should be sincere enough to accept if they've failed instead making fake improvement.

The Nigeria government really don’t care about its citizens and I believe everyone leaving in Nigeria know this, any president that enters office will only focus on embezzling funds and not on making sure that Nigeria citizens enjoy basic amenities. One thing that I have noticed is that even the Nigeria citizens are also a very big problem, those that are in the police force, are they not Nigeria citizens but they are also very corrupt and milking the innocent citizens of Nigeria, almost every body in Nigeria are corrupt, that is why you see the leaders doing anything they want and getting away with it. Watch what is going to happen in 2027 election, some Nigerias will still vote the current president to go back again for second term. Things will keep getting worse until we the citizens of Nigeria say enough is enough.

It's very true that the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria has removed petrol subsidy but he hasn't removed electricity subsidy, Bola Ahmed Tinubu made Nigerians known his intention of removing electricity subsidy in 2027, so if he eventually wins the upcoming Nigeria presidential election come 2027 he will implement it. Deep down Tinubu knows that his government brought hardship and sorrow but he won't admit it because he knows if he does, it might jeopardy his chance of winning his major opponents, which are Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar in Nigeria presidential election.
Do he really know about this and continue claim right that he's going the right thing, even when the so called policy of his, has put the life's of the citizens in danger, people can no longer afford minor things as it use to be before, although I might agree with you, because leaders from Africa can be very mean, He Tinubu brought more poverty in Nigeria, so he should know, the man is more concerned about tax, he doesn't care about how the citizens are fairing, of course the citizens are aware of his plans to implement the new subsidy regime on electricity when he is been reelected, we know he'll try everything within his power to rig the election, I just hope he doesn't win because the his first 4years is a total failure, and I do not know how the country will look like if he win again.

Let's ask ourselves this simple question first before we continue with the discussion. Right now, the question is: what does the government do with those money? Because if they are not investing those money in the country, like creating job opportunities, or at least increasing the minimum wage, things will keep affecting its citizens.
What I'm trying to say here is that no matter how the finance of the government increases, its citizens will not be beneficiaries unless the government invest those money in the country.
Imagine a country where there are no jobs, the minimum wage is low, the government is also not making improvements in anything, and there's also a subsidy removal; people will suffer because the government is not doing anything with the money they saved; rather, they are taking more loans from other countries, and still they are not doing any meaningful things with that money.
Exactly, you spoke my mind, what's the point of this reforms when it isn't beneficial to the citizens of the country, the very tax payers, we see lots of reforms that ends up increasing the cost of living meanwhile the minimum wage remains thesame. I don't even know where the money is going to especially in a time of peace like this, it's wild, it's truly what the government says and what is happening

There is a big difference between the government claims and reality because when the government makes claims it can be heard talking about good things for the people a good life and getting rid of the era of inflation. It seems that the government will actually fulfill these claims but when the time comes to implement them the government forgets its claims and the people are living the same life again. They are not provided with employment, nor is there a reduction in inflation nor are they provided with good facilities on the basis of which they can learn to improve their lives. This is a complete deception of the people. The government should ensure that the country will also develop along with the welfare of the people and if it fulfills the claims made to the people then the people will make also it the ruler for the next time.

I agree with you, the government deceives the people in various ways. They make the people believe that they are actually working for the people by giving wrong information or statistics, but they always try to capitalize on the people to take advantage for themselves. Many times the government presents their progress to the people in a very highlighted way but does not reveal many negative things or those that will not be good for the people. They never want to reveal their weaknesses. Many times they even give wrong information intentionally, conduct fake type surveys or manipulate survey reports to show the people that they are actually making a lot of progress, but in reality, nothing much happens. The quality of life of the people does not improve. Therefore, the people should be aware of this. They should not believe only with data and information. If it is able to bring about changes in the lifestyle of the people, then it can be understood that the government is actually working for the people.

In my country the government has made subsidy removal on petrol, electricity and a other things The policies aren't bad as some changes has been notice although we shouldn't expect immediate impact on the lifes of the average Nigerian immediately as it'll take a little time for everything to come into place but here is where the problem is as can we trust the next government to continue in the footsteps of the current administration because we need continuity to move the country and economy forward. If it's about good policies the present government has done well, It's corruptions that's the problem and I don't think they're tackling that part which is making every other things they're doing now have slow effect. Subsidy was killing the economy and this whats causing the federal government to not have enough funds to give to the local government to handle their states but now that isn't the case anymore.

I don't think the government doesn't care. They do because it's not one person that form the government, we as people are the government and we make it possible but the leadership is bad. The people that are at the apex of the government are the ones making bad decision for the country and it's affecting everyone. The things they are supposed to prioritize is what they keep at the back and the things that will not add value to people are what they love doing the most. Although the way the country is, if you are not there you will not understand how bad things were before they take over the government. It is not an excuse not to do the right thing, it's just that things are can't be that good as we expect the government to act. I think it will best if we see what the next government that is coming to power is going to do. There are many changes that has been made, we need to see how the next government are going to make it better.

Throughout history, governments have acted in just this way. They created a reality of administration which exists alongside the human reality. If one applies any simple examination, the logic breaks down. A reform that would shift the burden of money off the state and onto citizens would not lower the total cost of anything. It just moved who pays. In this instance, the ones who are stuck paying will be the ones who can least afford it.
In its own terms, saving money may be incorrect.
Three years and a product is four times the price. Not because of global supply chains, not because of some catastrophe that happens in the outside world - because of a policy choice.

If it were in your country what would be your opinion on this even with the figures the government are showing to have gained for the country.
Actually, we as citizen don't care about growth figures explained by government, we see it as campaign promise, what we really care when government implemented economic policy, it should improve the productive capacity and citizens's standard of living. Economic growth figure only number because it does not automatically mean a richer population and useless if the impact cannot be felt by the entire community, particularly the middle and lower class which has bigger composition. In my country when government remove or reduce the level of subsidies, the class that screams first is definitely the one most affected and they start criticized where those saving from subsidy removals allocated, when it return to the public dor social protection, increased public facility and productivity then we can admit that government take reasonable policy and it the reformation success. It’s not that I’m against subsidies. But sometimes it makes people are also less sensitive, everybody now that subsidies are burden the government budget, sometimes people are not wise in using it. Lets take example in my country, government provides fuel subsidies, when oil prices rise, the burden on the government budget increases, but many of my fellow countrymen are unwilling to cut back on fuel consumption to reduce the government's burden. They can participated by using public transportation, choose walk or cycle for short distance trips and share a ride with colleagues heading in the same direction. For better future government and citizens must working together, good governance and responsible citizen can bring prosperity to a country.

In my country, prices rise several times a year. This has significantly reduced the standard of living. For many years, the state treasury depended on oil and gas revenues, but these revenues gradually disappeared due to the sanctions. So where will the money come from now? The government solved this problem quite simply. They increased taxes for everyone, but this didn't produce any significant results, as small and medium-sized businesses retreated into the shadow economy and began operating exclusively under these conditions. Whereas they used to accept bank cards, now they accept only cash. This, in turn, reduced tax revenues. The "system" shot itself in the foot.

I cannot determine whether it is right or wrong, as I lack the accurate data needed to fully grasp the actual situation.
A policy of withdrawing all subsidies—ostensibly to improve the economy—could be implemented only after undergoing further assessment, such as evaluating the public's readiness to cope with rising prices. Naturally, one must also consider whether the population's income levels are sufficient to meet their needs. Such a move might be feasible for a small nation with a sparse population.
However, if a country is vast and populous—and still grappling with high unemployment—yet the government insists on such a policy, it constitutes an act of injustice that must be resisted; after all, the legitimacy of a nation rests upon its people.

In developing countries, all the burden of inflation is placed on ordinary citizens. Even leaders cause corruption and then raise the prices of goods, which ultimately affects the citizens. Is this actually the situation in every underdeveloped country? Here's the answer: yes, because when inflation increases, but income remains the same, then people just meet their basic needs and don't have a budget to plan their future. Do you agree that the government is not responsible for this economic situation? So, according to my knowledge, there are different reasons behind this. Obviously, poor management of leaders is directly involved in economic instability, but along with global conflicts and global political instability, it also affects the global economy, which has direct effects on poor countries. But some things are under the control of governments, like they make enough strong systems that decrease corruption, and also citizens pay their responsibilities as if they should follow the laws with honesty. So here's the right solution to economic problems, and what are your recommendations for it?

Well, you could have pointed out those changes you have taken note of about the current administration which has impacted on the lives of the people from basic commodities prices up to the average living standard. Three years with some months have gone which is sufficient to make any good policies being felt, even the signs of a good policy should show within such timeframe. Corruption has always being a huge problem to the county's all round development, but the big question I ask is this, by your personal encounters, is this government fighting corruption or they're just fighting and attacking oppositions using anti graft agencies like the EFCC. The local government autonomy is given on paper but in the practical aspect of reality we know they're still not financially independent and with autonomy to perform as they should, it still takes orders from the top.pilot. There's a lot of anomalies about this current government but nobody wants to speak about it because the government is oppressive and vindictive. They claim to have saved billions from the removal of fuel subsidy but this same government has the largest rate of borrowing which has tripled Nigeria's debt, etc.

In my country the government has made subsidy removal on petrol, electricity and a other things I can't remember right now. Some economic reforms has being made and implemented for three years still going, and the government claims that this decisions has helped improved the country's economy by making the government save billions that were spent on subsidy and the currency gaining strength. On their part the economy has improved and better than how they met it.
But from basic economic indicators can we say a government economic reforms is actually successful because it has increased the government net income. Meanwhile households living standard isn't affected in any positive ways. The quality of living standards for the citizens has rather reduced, price of products (unstable) skyrocketing on a daily. An example, in this 3 years a product that was sold for $1 is now sold for $4 with citizens struggling to afford what was once common products for every home, yet the government by their balance of higher net income into the federation account claims the economy is now better than how they met it, coming into political power. Is the government just being insensitive? If it were in your country what would be your opinion on this even with the figures the government are showing to have gained for the country.
As serious minded people who wnats to see real change, we need to apply our collective wisdom and stop falling for all these old political tricks for some bunch of old and clueless men they create the narrative of suffer now and enjoy later. These corrupt and heartless politicians will come with lies that all the painful cuts are necessary to save the economy and so they can channel the money saved from those cuts into building more infrastructure and a better future for the nation. But that's just the usual lie to steal more resources for themselves, how can anyone in good conscience expect a starving family to cross their hands and keep waiting for promises that will never manifest.

The government are actually doing anything with the sole purpose of bettering the lives of their citizens, or it's just the lies they tell to justify their reasons for whatever they are doing, tax increases and new ones being introduced, subsidies removal and every other thing which will generate more money for the country, but it's hard to ever see where that money is going into or was actually invested since the life of an average citizen depending on the system always get worst instead of better.

When I first heard the removal of subsidy, I genuinely did not expect the price of things to x4 but that was what happened almost immediately. It was very evident that the subsidy that the previous government had in place was doing the people a great service, I understand the country was in serious debt and all but removing the buffer and exposing people to a very harsh reality inside a very harsh economic is very bad for the people.
