Who do you think is behind this corruption, everyone will definitely say that the leaders of the country are behind this corruption, but I will say that every person of the country is behind this corruption. Because we can see that the leaders are repeatedly involved in corruption and as a result the situation of the country is getting worse and the economic situation of the country is getting worse, why do the people make these corrupt leaders win again? Yes, I am not saying that there is no corruption anywhere, yes corruption is everywhere but in some places it is more and in some places it is less. For example, if a road project is approved in our country, it can be seen that 60% - 70% goes to the leaders and the road is built with 40% - 30%. If we look at this work in a developed country, then we will see that even though they do corruption, they may do corruption like 5% and they work with the full amount of money. The people have to first take the right decision and choose the right leader, only then the country and the situation can be fixed.

Since that money hasn't been going to subsidy anymore, where are those billions going to? How is the money being spent or invested by the government?

Funding a one party system, increasing the payments of governors and senators, start an unnecessary project they will never complete so they can steal all the money assigned to carry out the project, leave enough to bribe the inec chairman and also buy votes from hungry Nigerians. These political representatives are demonic and if this is what the western democracy is all about, I really don't see it working for as it will never see the average African life improved.  One of the major reasons why Nigerians leave to improve their lives elsewhere.

I do not have the words to describe what the last three years under his government turned out to be, but we can not see such for the next four years otherwise, we're cooked fr fr. No to forget, the military likely to take any action are also being bought with money.

Tinubu didn't remove fuel subsidy in order to use the money he should have used and pay for fuel subsidy to build infrastructure across the country or to use it to pay debt rather he removed fuel subsidy so that him and his caucus in government can share the money for fuel subsidy among themselves. Tinubu main aim of becoming the president of Nigeria was for him to have access to embezzle money and enrich himself that's why he couldn't solve the insecurity in Nigeria so that he will use it to keep borrowing money that's he's not even using for welfare of Nigeria.

When I was reading your post, I begin to wonder whether you are from the same region with me, but immediately I answered the question that where from different place. You have just described exactly what is happening in my own country and honestly I am even surprised to see some countries also facing the same challenge, I usually concentrated mostly on international news and with the things I normally saw, I feel like we are being cheated because of how some of the government of other countries are treating their citizens. I was always impressed anytime I saw those news, but later on I noticed some people are talking good about my country, but I was shocked because all those things are lies.

I make a deep research on the kind of places those people saw that particular news, which I realized that they don't usually show the bad side of our country to the foreigners. Our government at the biggest liars when it comes to deceiving their citizens.

In developing or underdeveloped countries, people sitting in government only care for themselves and they have no feelings for people living in their country. An example, in this 3 years a product that was sold for $1 is now sold for $4 with citizens struggling to afford what was once common products for every home, yet the government by their balance of higher net income into the federation account claims the economy is now better than how they met it, coming into political power. Is the government just being insensitive? If it were in your country what would be your opinion on this even with the figures the government are showing to have gained for the country.

Bro, the 3x price boom seems too much from the inside but from the outside it is not, because governments will also say they have managed to reduce inflation somehow, otherwise the rates of the same products would have been more than $6 or $10 but they sometimes exaggerate things to look and sound impressive.

But you can compare your country's progress, but don't mind while you do it, compare it with other countries also, compare it with the US dollar if you are not living in the US. To be honest here, inflation has skyrocketed the price of everything at least 4x to 5x of what it used to be five years ago.

It's very true that the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria has removed petrol subsidy but he hasn't removed electricity subsidy, Bola Ahmed Tinubu made Nigerians known his intention of removing electricity subsidy in 2027, so if he eventually wins the upcoming Nigeria presidential election come 2027 he will implement it. Deep down Tinubu knows that his government brought hardship and sorrow but he won't admit it because he knows if he does, it might jeopardy his chance of winning his major opponents, which are Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar in Nigeria presidential election.

The leadership of the current president if Nigeria has put a lot of pressure on it citizens, despite the fact that the citizens are enduring the pains as if nothing is happening to them.
He is working on more a more things to implement if he eventually enters in as president the second time and then, he will be able to add other laws that increases there pocket rather than helping the citizens it making life more difficult for them.

There are many nations like this; some have been living like this for a long, long time as well. And the sad thing is that some of them are democracies, and people vote for the thief instead of the decent person, no idea why. I do not know how it is in Nigeria; I do not know if it is democracy and the president actually does get the votes, or if it is like Putin and his "elections", but in the end we know that we are seeing things be a lot worse, because in reality, there are so many nations where people are voting for the wolf. There is a saying in English, "If you vote for the leopards for faces, do not be shocked if leopards eat your faces", or something similar.

People vote for horrible people, and when those horrible people turn out to be horrible, they are horrified. I am sorry, but it was obvious. Same goes for Americans who voted for trump for example, small business owners who got hit by tariffs, and citizens who had to pay for it, and billionaires got paid for it, and they assumed he wouldn't go to war, and kamala would, but trump did go to war, gas prices skyrocketed because of him, and basically everything they feared happened under the rule of the person they voted to make sure those things did not happened.

What even add more injury to this failed economy, is how the government borrow alot of loan from the IMF, China, etc without making good use of the money. Instead they allow the debt to keep piling up, so whenever we get revenue, instead of the government to use that money to improve the life of the citizens, they use it to pay off debt. Which is why alot of president spends their tenure in paying Debt. An economy that is unstable, sitting on debt that was embezzled by the government will be prone to high inflation. The more the government becomes richer so the average citizens becomes poorer.  Sometimes I wonder what could be the solution to this bad government, I don't know if our democracy needs restructuring because it's clearly not working in Africa countries as a whole.

When the subsidy announcement came out, we were all happy. We hoped, for the first time, that some debts would be cleared and the Naira would start gaining value again. We believed inflation would reduce and the cost of importation into the country would be affordable. Nah.....it became worse after the first year. Those politicians runs the government economy like personal business, where every government money is shared and managed within the ruling chambers and their party members, this is why we can not see any meaningful progress in any policies that most present and past political leaders have brought in to further national development.

I'm glad you said president can't make decisions without the knowledge or approval of the Senate and house of representatives unless if corruption persist in that country. We can't compare United States of America with a country like Nigeria, both in terms of government and financial stability. In the countries where there is high level of corruption you can't expect the senate president, house of representatives, or even the legislators to question the president when they are always on the same page. The reason why their always mute is because they are all guilty of the same crime. President always made decisions that will be favourable to them and all members of the cabinet. I see know reason saying we should not hope on the government to perform there constitutional duties as it is supposed to be done.
Constitutionally there are some duties meant for the government to execute even without been ask to do so but because they are blindfolded by greed and selfishness which is the only reasons they wait expecting citizens to remind them on what they are meant to do without been told.

How painful it is to see that written, and yet how much more painful it is that it's true. Yes, governments, almost all of them, certainly mine, do not care for their people. I get that it is the purpose of it, but politics has become a job. For a long time now, people are not trying to be politicians to be powerful and help the people; they want to get there so they can have a job that makes them a lot of money and power. That's it. The sad truth about governments not helping us is so sad and yet the reality.

We should realise that it is not really something that you could accept that easily; it's sad, and yet it is the reality that we live every single day in our lives. I get that we see the news and we hate our governments, so we know how they are; there is no question about that, but we do not think about the general concept of it. We just put faces on it, which is what the media wants. We know todays, politics is expensive. Politicians compete not only in making decisian but also to get public attention and dominate public perception. Expensive politic create short term incentive, many of them caught in a dilemma betwen benefit that visible immediately, can be campaigned for next period but has long term high fiscal cost, or result are not visible now but has significan benefits for long term. Rationally, many politician choose any policy that can produce fast political benefit. Simple example we can check from allocation portion of tax revenue which create public value.

As citizen we must engaging in politics with smart brain, so we can distinguish between government try for strenghtening fundamental of economy or only boosting perception that economy is improving. Funny think we often find government prefers extensive communication over demonstrating accountability.

Our public transport drivers are getting fuel subsidy from the government. And when they load their fuels, they get it automatically and it's a couple of cents from the actual selling price of the fuel stations. This is just a temporary solution but it's a big help for the drivers who are no longer earning that much from the trips they do. The government can do better than that but, there's more problem that all of us are experiencing in specific regions in our country because of the enormous flooding and one reason of this is the corruption that the politicians pocketed the budget from the flood control projects.

As serious minded people who wnats to see real change, we need to apply our collective wisdom and stop falling for all these old political tricks for some bunch of old and clueless men they create the narrative of suffer now and enjoy later. These corrupt and heartless politicians will come with lies that all the painful cuts are necessary to save the economy and so they can channel the money saved from those cuts into building more infrastructure and a better future for the nation. But that's just the usual lie to steal more resources for themselves, how can anyone in good conscience expect a starving family to cross their hands and keep waiting for promises that will never manifest.

I'm so sick and tired of all these beautiful promises to change things for the better. On the contrary, it's only getting worse with each passing day.

These politicians are blatantly lying. Every word they say is checked for lies within minutes, and they don't care. I haven't seen such brazen and blatant lies in a long time. Sometimes I can't even find the words to describe my feelings when I see yet another official lying. What's happening to this world? Have lies and populism really become the norm? Isn't it time for humanity to rethink its future and start taking serious steps to prevent disaster?
