I'm not sure if Mark Magsayo could be the torch bearer for Philippines. He really needs to proved himself and become a world champion defend it and not just become a one hit wonder. And this could be a good step for him. He is the favorite and should win in a spectacular manner so that he might have a chance for the belt again.

Right now, I don’t think there’s another Filipino boxer who has reached his level. Casimero was supposed to be one of them, but he messed up a big opportunity because of his weight issues. Magsayo seems much more disciplined, and that’s probably one reason he is still getting these opportunities. In terms of raw talent though, I still think Casimero is more talented.

I’m just hoping Magsayo wins this one because we need another big boxing win to celebrate. For now, we have a new “Pacman” making noise internationally, but this time it’s in tennis with Alex Eala.

Honestly, I don’t want to underestimate him, but it’s hard for me to expect that he can reach even close to Donaire’s level. Magsayo was already a world champion once, but he lost the title, and since then he hasn’t really shown that same kind of long-term dominance. So for this fight, if he really wants to become champion again, he cannot waste the opportunity. He needs not just to win, but to make it an impressive win and show that he still belongs at the top level.

Still good odds for Mark Magsayo here. As a Filipino, I will support Mark here specially that he is the favorite. Although I'm not that of a heavy bettor on boxing itself. My knowledge is not as deep as other Filipino posters here.

Anyway, this could be my first time to bet so I'm make sure that I have a higher chance to win by putting a decent amount of money on Magsayo in his fight. Still plenty of days to go, but it's betting to just go and bet on the winner and not make things complicated on my end.

Since it would be your first time to bet kabayan, it is good to not complicate things and go for the ML odds as it is still a decent odds. As of this writing it is still @1.65 for Magsayo, nothing has change since it was first placed.

As a regular bettor, i would suggest to take it easy, i mean just put a bet which you feel like comfortable to loss it because in boxing there is this called upset that regularly happens like the fight of our very own Weljon Mindoro who was got upset by Carlos Ocampo. Mindoro was the huge favorite to win that fight that betting on him ML is not worth the money because it was pegged @1.05 if i'm not mistaken.

He was very well aware of what has happened last Sunday mate as it was the talk on the whole of PH boxing fans .

It is very sad to note that there are no boxers that could follow the footsteps of Manny Pacquiao here in our country though Magsayo has a good record but i think he is not on his peak anymore. He has done his job of giving glory to the country as he was once a world champion but capturing a title belt is a hard task considering the oppositions he might face in this lightweight division.

I think he is well aware of what had happened to Mindoro. Although it was reported that his opponent came in over the limit in weight in the fight but they proceed to do it anyways. It's not an excuse though for what had happened to Mindoro.

I’ll share my prediction, purely as a personal opinion.
I’m predicting a win for Mark Magsayo.
Reasons:
While Andres Cortes currently has zero losses, intense pressure, and good strategy, Mark Magsayo has broader experience, power, and speed, as well as better physical attributes. But that’s not all - Magsayo also has excellent defense (an area where Cortes loses his edge) and delivers brutal counterattacks. Magsayo will need to withstand Cortes’s constant pressure and seize the moment for an effective counterattack.

I also believe Magsayo will win here, but I see him more as the aggressor in this fight.

In terms of defense, I’m not really that impressed with him, but I like his offense because he is very aggressive and always willing to engage. I would not say he has the kind of one-punch power that some real KO artists have, though.

Still, with his opponent mainly bringing an undefeated record, I think this is a fight Magsayo can control.

As for Magsayo’s defense, this is just my subjective opinion, but it seems to me that it’s noticeably better than his opponent’s - especially when combined with Magsayo’s other strengths, which gives him a better chance of winning. Just be better than yesterday is the goal everyday. He should improve the defense and the BODEGA! The power is there so he need to maintain that and focus more on how to land clean shots.
He is not young no old at age 31, He can still improve. I hope he can get the belt and defend it many times.

Also, this is a 10 round match which means no belt on the line even Andres is holding one? A world title is always a 12 round fight.

I guess it's mainly because of the money that picks Cortes considering that he's got a clean record, and so if this fight goes the distance and the rounds are close enough, they're likely to be awarded to him. But is it possible the swing also has something to do with Cortes being the naturally bigger guy at lightweight?

Anyway, I don't really see anything in Cortes that's particularly threatening to Magsayo. I hope Mark will come out with a better stamina and preserves his power until the later rounds. Cortes will probably cut him and keep the pressure all throughout the game.

Oh ok that is cool if Magsayo will be the underdog and it's good that I have waited. Still a couple of days before the upcoming fight, Saturday could be the best time to see what will be the final odds at least 24 hours before the fight.

That is not how you interpret the odds, .. 1.70 means he is the slight favorite.

Still a couple of days before the upcoming fight, Saturday could be the best time to see what will be the final odds at least 24 hours before the fight.

And since there are a lot of Filipinos here rooting for Magsayo, then I do hope that he will win this fight. And if the fight is just for 10 rounds, maybe he will have a rush to finish the fight and not giving the judges a chance as we might see a different result.

If he finds a good opening and the timing is right, I think he should go for the finish and win by KO. The result here could determine what kind of fight he gets next.
If he wins in an impressive way, then who knows, he might get another shot at a championship fight.
