Polymarket is really growing. In the past few days I have read some topics here about prediction markets being abused through insider information, and now this news came out that 1789 Capital, where Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, reportedly invested another $300 million in Polymarket.

What I’m thinking is, could this kind of political connection somehow affect how strict regulation will be in the future?

Imagine this much money going into prediction markets while the industry is still facing regulatory problems and questions about insider betting. And considering that the son of the U.S. president is connected to one of the investors, it naturally raises some questions for me.

I’m not saying there is already something wrong happening, but the timing and the amount of money involved make this worth watching closely.

In the end this is not only about the uniqueness of gambling but will lead to politics that will happen because indirectly with Trump Jr. in the Polymarket then indirectly this will also encourage political influence in gambling, although not directly this will still encourage How the Polymarket is used as a media cutter for those who do not like the Trump camp.

Of course regulation will be one of the things they will fix later but on the one hand this will also add strength to polymarket because they will still stand tall even though there will be some things they must comply with.
This is indeed a win-win symbiosis for Trump Jr. and Polymarket but ultimately for me it can also be a disadvantage for the gamblers who are in it. With regulations that are likely to increase more stringent then the gambler will be a little difficult to express themselves in gambling.

I think it is not so much about how strict regulation is per se, but how strictly it is enforced against different parties. On paper regulation is the same for everyone. In reality it is not. If you have the resources and the networks a and the power and the money to play around with regulation more than others, it doesn't really matter how strict it is on paper.

What may be true though is that regulation tends to be looser if the Trump clan is heavily invested, but whoever is exploiting insider information, would also probably be better protected from investigation if the platform is owned by people close to the president of the United States.

It has been worth watching everything closely for a very long time and not just during the Trump administration, but then I think it doesn't really matter whether you or I watch closely or not. There haven't been any consequences as far as I know despite all those insider trading reports.

This is the part I fear the most because the cheating will be obvious but there would be nothing anyone can do about it and dumping 300 million in the prediction market and also holding a key position in the system is just something I can't get to rap my head around but which ever the case might be, I am definitely sure there are a lot of fishy things going on back stage which the regular people can't see and so, anyone hoping to play with polymarket should have at the back of their minds that, the system might just be rigged.

I'm not sure about others but I think such type of investment means that in future we might see huge growth of prediction markets and there's going to be a lot of money and investment in such platforms. I know some people fear that there's high chance of insider trading in prediction markets but insider information is happening everywhere and it can't be stopped fully. As long as it's not proven no one could say much about such things because there will be no proof and when there's no proof then it means nothing happened at least in eyes of authorities. We must keep in mind that at platforms like Poly market everything can't be fixed so users still can place bets on various events that in no way could be changed by insiders.

There might be a political connection given the recent speculation regarding Maduro arrest and US attacking Iran while someone suddenly bet huge amount on that scenario to happened on very short time before it was commenced.

But as usual, we can’t assume everything unless there’s substantial evidence available which I doubt we can find on the current administration.

In Philippines, the corruption is already exposed but no one involved jailed because the current administration is in total control with power. Same scenario on what will happened to US as long as the potential involved is in power.

Well, Polymarket is already highly regulated, and foul play is always closely monitored, so I believe the market will eventually gain traction especially since Trump has endorsed it. Besides, Trump Jr. has been investing in polymarket already, I don't think he'll slow down now when there's a lot to profit from it.

Regulations are already strict. Federal bodies like the CFTC (commodity futures trading commission), NFA (National Futures Associations), and some other Federal bodies in the US are already regulating its activities. I believe the US doesn't necessarily see polymarket as gambling—this distinction alone will propel the market forward in the US.

Since Trump became president, there has been a lot of belief in it and we also saw Trump coin last year, which a lot of people invested in and it was also going up quite fast these days and all this happened after Trump became president and then the price of Bitcoin was also going quite well. Polymarket does not make any small investments, they have made good investments believing in Jr Trump and as long as they keep getting money and America keeps getting benefits, it will benefit everyone because they also invest in advance so that their company makes a profit and its name is known all over the world. Polymarket is investing a lot of money, they are making profits from their investments everywhere and in the same way they are doing business with everyone. A big investment of $300M has been made, if Jr Trump's market declines, it can also be a very big loss.

As the saying goes, "strike while the iron is hot". I would argue that regulation can be more balanced rather than excessively lenient, when it has influential supporters and opponents. Any innovative industry inevitably faces challenges and pitfalls and learns to solve and overcome them through experience. We need to watch this kind of situation very closely since a politically connected person has invested in their platform, so they can smoothly navigate their federal rules if they wanted to. Because of this most of the time their platform will be kept under everyone's scrutiny.

A prediction market can only be successful when they can win the trust of users. If they start doing unethical things users will definitely start avoiding them. Eventually it could get to the point where their platform is completely shut down. What worries me most is if they through political backing stop the news so whenever any unethical activity of theirs is caught. Imo if they start doing unethical activity it should always be shared on all social media so that everyone can be warned

Crazy era. They do not even hide it anymore. It's all there, very visible to anyone. In the past, this type of news might not have even come out. Not even a bit of a sniff of it. But now, it's all there, painted in rainbow colors so everyone could see it.

Of course there will be political contamination on this, and that's because of the name whose daddy is the President. He cannot even hide it either. Still, his daddy attacked a different name on a prediction market but seems to be avoiding this one. Well, if the son says they will make money from it, then they can bring down other similar industries so there will be no competition. Well I don't particularly care about the huge amount the Trump Jr. has invested because the group is one of the influential investors in the prediction market. He is probably just coming whilst though his involvement will somehow also influence the market in one way or the other.

I would had actually applauded the Trump Jr's group on the huge investment if they have invested it in crypto. There it would definitely drive positive impacts in the market entirely.
It is also good to see how some of the nearby officials are approaching the prediction markets which also draws more responsible attentions towards gambling at large.
So those thinking gambling is irresponsible can as well see how a whole US President is relatively involved in the system.

I smell dirty in Polymarket. We all know how Trump and his family has been making profit from market manipulation on crypto and how insiders are getting information from the military operations to manipulate the market. Now Trump Jnr. is supporting Polymarket with funds. It might give him another power to manipulate the market with his friends and make more profit.

Nobody dare challenges the Trump family and I believe regulations will be on a minimal or if possible abandoned for now till Trump steps down from power.

I won’t expect any strict regulations for the prediction market at least not for the period when Trump is the president. I can’t say when Trump leaves office, but who knows before then Trump jr and his associates might have removed their investment from Polymarket after making so much profit. Such a big money investment, and you think they haven’t done all their preliminary underground findings to be fully sure that their investment will be safe.
