I’m still a beginner in Bitcoin and trying to understand how people make their decisions
How do you decide when it’s the right time to buy, hold, or sell Bitcoin? Do you mainly look at the price and charts, or are there other things you consider before making a decision?

Welcome to the forum, first of all it depends on what you want to do with bitcoin investment. If you’re planning to invest in bitcoin then you need to make up your mind because bitcoin is a long term investment. There are also those who are traders and not true investors, those people usually time the market before they can buy bitcoin which is pretty much unpredictable because bitcoin is highly volatile and it’s difficult to time the market. So in order to save your self the stress of timing the market there is what we call DCA strategy that enables investors to buy bitcoin at any market price, but the question is do you have a discretionary income to use and buy bitcoin and HODL for long term. A discretionary income is the money left with you after taking care of all your basic needs. So if you have a discretionary income then you don’t need to time the market to know when to buy or Not as you can get started immediately in buying bitcoin and HODL at any market price with the DCA method. Bitcoin investment is all about patience, time, consistency. Dont expect to make quick profit in bitcoin investment, and that’s why you need to be regularly buying bitcoin with the DCA strategy either on weekly or monthly basis, or depending on when you have a discretionary income. This is done so that you can gradually build up a strong bitcoin portfolio for yourself self in order to hold it for long term when the time is right and you know you’re in a good position then you can be taking your profits without getting to sell off your holdings completely.

There is no fixed time frame for buying Bitcoin. If you have extra available funds you can start accumulation Bitcoin today. Most new investors look for the DIP period to buy Bitcoin. In fact, no one can accurately predict the actual price decline period. Smart investors accumulate Bitcoin in every price trend through discretionary income.
I use DCA strategy for accumulation Bitcoin. This strategy has become a very decent and easy investment strategy for me without looking at the price chart regularly. I'm only accumulating Bitcoin for a fixed period of time such as a target of 4-10 years.

Yes, if you are planning to buy, then you should buy when the price is low, i.e. during the bear market. And so when we go into the bull run, then that is the best time to sell. Although selling is subjective, as there could be some events in your life that you need to sell some or all of it because you needed money for some emergency (this happen to me before).

But in any case, it's better to really go and invest in one full cycle, or at least 4 years and see how your investment goes. Remember though that there is no one formula that really works for everyone. Each one of us are very different, so just make the best out of your investment and just be optimistic that if ever there will be a time for you to sell, then you should be in the profit side.
I don't think it is good to encourage a newbie starting out their Bitcoin investment to be considering buying when the price is low which is bear market as a primary strategy, this will slow down their accumulation process and missing out good opportunities. For a start out newbies, dollar cost averaging is always encouraged since it puts you in position of entering the market on time without timing the market, anyone who motives of buying Bitcoin is for long term investment, buying when all the time bear or bull is the best approach unless you are a short term trader.

While investing, building an emergency funds is highly necessary to enable you not to rush and sell your Bitcoin in the time of emergency, though if the situation is very critical especially if it is a matter of life and death selling and your emergency funds is not enough then selling your Bitcoin wouldn't be a bad option. When measuring profits in time of selling, I guess it should be something reasonable and not just a small profit, this is why we should give our investment enough time to grow of about 4 to 10 years or more.

The major thing that influences your decision is your mindset. Mindset I mean what was your intention when you came into Bitcoin investment? Did you come to  invest or to trade? If it's investment, then you know that you are in for a long term buying and HODLing, and this means that you wouldn't be thinking of selling at anytime, either in price decline or even in price pump, you would be aiming to HODL longer and gather more profits for yourself.

But on the other hand, if your intentions are to trade, make quick profit and buy again, then you will be looking at selling at any point when there is an increase in the price of Bitcoin.

So is you ask me, you decision of when to buy or sell or HODL Bitcoin depends lagerly on your initial intentions when you started your Bitcoin journey.

How do you decide when it’s the right time to buy, hold, or sell Bitcoin? Do you mainly look at the price and charts, or are there other things you consider before making a decision?

Firstly make sure to take a look at the big picture, which is the totality of the Bitcoin cycle, and make sure to understand the time and point at which we are, that will be a stepping stone and guidance to if you are going to buy at the time or wait a while or better put, manage your risk better.

Actually there is no exact best time to buy but then for the purpose of risk management and best utilization of opportunities we do like to put into considerations some factors before buying, of which i just mentioned one. This may somehow apply to selling too, except you are looking to maximize profit.

But in a typical situation when I'm trying to get the best out of my Bitcoin investment mostly in the short term, i would want to consider the time of the cycle we are in, then consider if there is any news of high impact at the time and lastly, consider the amount i have at hand and willing to risk at the time, if all is in alignment with my edge, then i will take a leap in, otherwise, i may just wait.

A lot of persons will always say anytime is a good time to buy but in reality, this has something to do with that which you are hoping and aiming to achieve with your investment, alongside the timeframe you are considering making this investment for, otherwise you may have to keep in mind certain risk to bear at all times, of which losses is going to be one of them.

Try to know and understand more better regarding bitcoin season, market indicators and how to use the chat to track on market performance over time, also decided on the category you want to belong, are you going for trading or you intended to be a long time investor, be committed to learning each day and also keep to Reading bitcoin related articles to improve more on your insight about bitcoin network, make use of this forum to also stand as your basic standard to learning ground and ask relevant questions on areas where you are not sure of or make use of the search engine to discover other aspect that I've already been discussed, remain committed to improving each day and you will be more better than before with your knowledge and exposition in Bitcoin.

For beginners, investing in Bitcoin will be another challenge because they have less experience and skills, which means they do not know when to enter the market. Most beginners think that they can make money quickly and become rich by entering the market and buying, but the truth is completely different. First of all, you need to know about the Bitcoin market and make a plan that keeps your emotions under control. Moreover, you need to analyze the market well. You should not invest all your money at once. Investing for the long term is the best sign. Moreover, investing through the DCA method is very effective. It is good to buy when the market is down, but many people do not know when the market will come down, in which case it is best to use the DCA method. And of course, you must control yourself. When you invest, you need to be patient because you can face losses at any moment.

There is not specific time for Bitcoin buying.

You just need to make up your mind and the decision on purchasing Bitcoin. You should use good Bitcoin accumulating strategy, we have many of them, buy the dip and hold, lump sum and the most popular, the dollar cost averaging.

Before all these, you should inquire knowledge. Your knowledge guides you on your bitcoin investments because the market can be frustrating, risky and without knowledge your emotions might get a hold of you.

It is difficult to determine when the Bitcoin price will increase or decrease. No one knows at what time the Bitcoin price will change. However, if someone has a long-term plan in Bitcoin, then it is very easy for him to buy Bitcoin. He can continue to buy Bitcoin with DCA strategy. For long-term investors, the price is not a big deal. For those who have a short-term plan, both buying and selling Bitcoin are risky. If they have a good idea about the market, their decision can be relatively good. Considering the current position of Bitcoin and the possibility of previous ATH, he has to take a decision and buy quickly and sell within the profit range. I think this is definitely a risky job. In my opinion, a long-term plan is definitely the best option for making profit from bitcoin investment.

When it comes to when you should buy, you should know that as soon as you have your money, even if it isn't as much as you had anticipated, it is better to start and then follow up with DCA. Before you know it, you would have been able to accumulate something significant because, given the price of bitcoin, not everyone can truly afford it. For this reason, I believe that before you start, you should have a plan for what will benefit you if you buy, and it won't affect you.

You simply need to use your income wisely and stay away from anything that would force you to sell what you currently have, because all of your planning will finally come from when you have your emergency savings and are more prepared. So there is more to all these things that are happening now.

Absolutely dude for people just beginning out, waiting for the right entry bear market can easily became an access excuses to keep waiting while the market cycle moves without people , DCA always make more sense when there's long term investors Bitcoin should not be money when people desperately needed next weeks or months having that financial cushion give some folks the peace of mind to hold through the volatility than being forced me to Bitcoin at worst possible period.

If doing DCA: make certain plans, accumulate Bitcoin using DCA, consistently and regularly. Even during bear markets.

If you're using a different strategy, just conform to it. Most importantly, if your goal is long-term, just buy Bitcoin. Only buy it during bearish market periods. Don't forget to use cold money only. Then, determine your target.

Is it a yearly timeframe or a price target? Also, understand the bull run era. You might be interested in selling during a potential ATH during a bull run.
But once more, conform to your condition. Don't just follow other people. DYOR

Simple is to buy when the price is low and sell when the price is high, but it's actually not that simple, you at least have to understand what bitcoin is and have skills in technical and fundamental analysis, I personally usually buy when Bitcoin is approaching the halving phase (usually the highest price in 4 years) more precisely two years before the halving arrives and sell it after that phase, but if for example you have a longer planning then it's better, my advice is to use the DCA strategy in accumulating, this proves to be the safest from risk and also has the potential to maximize your profits. For a beginner it will be best you to buy when the price is low, then decide on which investment method you prefer, either the long term investment or short term investment method, because the type of investment a person in operating determine when a person is likely to sell or hold, but for a person who is not new to Bitcoin investment he can buy anytime he wishes so far he has the funds available, and because they understand the process and are more experienced unlike the beginners who are still new to the business, It is advisable to start small first and appreciate with time as a beginner.

I don't agree with this your suggestion of buying when the price is low for a beginner because he or she is just starting, and as such he is very far behind in his accumulation, so buying right away weekly or monthly without paying much attention to the price is the realest way to invest in Bitcoin, because by waiting for the dip when you are just starting your accumulation, you may not even start, and you can't build a huge stash of Bitcoin by waiting for the dip when you have nothing in your wallet,  so the dca accumulating strategy is the best for a beginner.

The only people that can afford to be waiting for the dip before buying, even though it's not the best are those that already have a huge stash of it in their wallet, not a beginner that is just starting his accumulation.

If you suggest that it be preferable for a beginner to buy during the dips, it means you support that an intending investor who is ready to invest should wait for the dip, if the price of Bitcoin is high when he is set financially? Do you think this is a good suggestion? Is there no other ways to buy Bitcoin and still buy during the dip, for clarity sake, the dips is not the only entry in Bitcoin investment, a beginner that start buying with the DCA method won't have to wait for dips because there won't be any need for that since this strategy works perfectly well in both market conditions, even if I agree that new or old investor has their choices of when to dive in, instead one to wait for the dip, he can start gradually and consistency and perhaps buy more in the dips.

As someone that is still new to bitcoin, the most crucial thing is for you to understand how bitcoin works and the risk that is involved in investing in bitcoin.
As for the right time to invest in bitcoin, as long as you can be able to figure out your discretionary income then you can start accumulating bitcoin using DCA strategy and you don't need to time the market before buying. It is best to invest and hold bitcoin for a long time, there is no need to look at charts or even considered the market prices for buying and holding bitcoin for a long time. The thing is just to be consistent and continue holding. As for selling, you can only talk of selling when you have reached over accumulation phase and it won't be appropriate for someone to empty their bitcoin holdings and become a no coiner.
Why wouldn't it be appropriate for someone to sell all their bitcoin holdings and become a no-coiner? It all depends on a person's financial goals and targets that they had with their investments from the beginning, if their target has been met already, they don't need to keep holding, and besides, one doesn't need to stay a no-coiner forever, you can always start buying again when the time approaches, and then you can keep holding until the target is reached again and you can sell again.

I understand that some people's strategy goes the way you explained it, in which they don't sell all their assets at once, they basically sell in portions, and this is done because they want to utilize the movements of the market in their favour, because if you sell everything at $120k, and then it goes to $140k and then you have nothing to sell, you will regret it, but I want to say that if an investor has a set target, they should respect that target and sell when the target reaches instead of getting greedy.

How you decide when to buy, hold or sell Bitcoin is mostly dependent your timeframe and the main reason you bought Bitcoin in the first place.

There's no perfect time to buy or sell as no one can be perfect in their prediction of the market. So for buying, I'll always recommend DCA instead of waiting for the perfect bottom.

For selling, it should be more about your target. I believe that every Bitcoin investor has a reason for investing, when that target is met, selling it shouldn't be a bad decision.

If you have discretionary income without looking at the price and chart, then you can enter the Bitcoin market at any time to invest, in fact if an inexperienced investor should gain knowledge about basic knowledge about Bitcoin investment such as how to buy and hold Bitcoin, proper investment strategy and strict security and beware of scams.

However OP, when you sell Bitcoin may depend on the investor's goals because I think that after accumulating a sufficient amount of Bitcoin in the portfolio, it should be sold, so everyone should invest through DCA regularly to accumulate a sufficient amount of Bitcoin in the portfolio and hold it for a few cycles and invest patiently without giving in to panic when the market starts to fluctuate, at the moment it seems that maybe this is how inexperienced investors will be able to enrich their experience in Bitcoin investment.
