What's your thought on someone that chooses to use their Bitcoin to buy an iPhone?
I have no problem with anyone who chose to purchase an iPhone using Bitcoin, everyone is free to do whatever they want with their Bitcoin.  However, the main purpose Bitcoin was created was to serve as everyday money and give people full control over their own money, personally I won't use the Bitcoin I have been holding for a long time to purchase an iphone, I would rather pay with my country's currency or another country's currency but not with the Bitcoin I have been holding.

Supposed there's a marketplace where devices are sold (let's use this first)
And they accept Bitcoin and Fiat.
What's your thought on someone that chooses to use their Bitcoin to buy an iPhone?
I guess some people might choose to use their Bitcoin to buy that iPhone. Maybe they're not the type of people who would hold Bitcoin forever, and they might spend some of it when they actually need it without thinking too much about it.

But more people might prefer to use fiat, because they think their Bitcoin might be worth more in the future, so spending it to buy that iPhone wouldn't be worth it and would just be wasting their Bitcoin – they're more likely to keep their Bitcoin and spend the fiat instead because it makes so much more sense to them.

There's nothing wrong with either, because everyone has different priorities and financial situations for choosing how they want to use their Bitcoin. The important thing is that they don't force themselves to buy an iPhone. Because there are a lot of people who intentionally spend their assets on something they don't really need just to look richer and more successful.

If the person is able to buy an iPhone with Bitcoin, then that is good.  I do not think it differs from buying an iPhone with fiat currency.  After all, whether a person uses Bitcoin or fiat currency to buy Iphone is the same thing.  He lost the same amount in exchange for an iPhone at that moment.  If a person is so paranoid that after purchasing the iPhone, he thinks he is about to lose a fortune if he uses Bitcoin, then he can always replace that spent Bitcoin by converting his fiat money to Bitcoin.  After all market for Bitcoin is accessible anytime.

That's simple. If you feel it is something difficult to buy with Bitcoin, why don't you convert your Bitcoin to fiat to buy the iPhone. Many of us have been buying costly things using the money gotten from Bitcoin sales to buy those things. We didn't later get paranoid about converting our Bitcoin to fiat, instead we forgot all that at ease, like we didn't sell a good sum of our Bitcoin for fiat.

In the same way, we can choose Bitcoin or fiat; anyone that is preferable for us not to think about that we buy an iPhone with.

Let's say that I can afford to buy it but that's going to cost a lot on my holdings. As much as I would like to have one, this is what I remember for this type of purchase.

snip

I think that I'll wait for a couple of years until I'll be able to afford that. On this type of economy, I'll have to save and put the needs first. But if you can afford it and that's going to make you happy, that's one of the reasons why we invest and that's to afford things and become happy with that purchase and by owning one of the latest releases.

Well, Apple has recently increased the price of the iphone 17 and so the new amount in BTC would be approximately 0.116 BTC.
To be honest, I will not use my BTC to buy an iphone even though I want to.
I will rather spend fiat to purchase an iphone than to use my BTC because I am currently in accumulation phase.
It's better to accumulate as much BTC at this point as I can, may be once I am finally sure of spending all my savings on luxury then I can consider using my BTC.
Until then, BTC would be the last thing I would spend on things.
The situation really differs per holder because there are holders who don't have much fiat/cash and savings and their entire life savings is being put into Bitcoin. And that's why op has asked it depending on how much you have in your holdings and just as what you've said, right now I can't afford it to use my bitcoin holding for it and pay a direct purchase or sell my btc for that. But for op and the others who can afford it right now, they should have it and enjoy that nice thing.

Not sure information in this graphic is correct.

~

People can need smart phones to use but actually can avoid luxury smartphones like iPhone. They can save a lot of money for other things such as investment or their emergency funds.
Assume that the graphics was an estimation and done earlier and as the price has changed, it won't be the same and accurate anymore but that might be at least close to the valuation of btc/usd. As for iphone as a luxury, for many it's a status symbol but for people who are living in a decent country and can purchase that within a couple of days of their salary isn't really a luxury.

I can use bitcoin to buy a phone. I mean an expensive phone, but I can add up to my bitcoin holding at anytime.

Anything that will also make me get an expensive phone, know that I want to use the phone to make money as I use phone and laptop for some businesses, but the phone is not an iPhone.

I can use bitcoin to buy an iPhone, but that does not mean I use all my bitcoin to get the iPhone. Also I can later use the money that I made from the work I use the phone to do to buy some bitcoin and buy some other things.
Don’t you think you could change your mind in the next day after making up your mind to purchase an iPhone with some of the bitcoin you have been holding for years? Personally, I don’t think that I could purchase an iPhone with the bitcoins I have been holding for long time, beside I’m already own an iPhone and I don’t see myself purchasing another iPhone anytime soon unless I want to purchase the new iPhone 18.

I don't see any issue with that. Your bitcoin, your decision to buy whatever you want regardless of the price. But the question is, is having an IPhone a must need on your part? Because if not, that would be a waste of bitcoin, you could have keep it and double its value in time than spend it and totally lost its future value.

However, we make our own decisions with our own bitcoin. But personally, I would rather spend my bitcoin in times of dire need or emergencies because of its highly expensive and valuable amount. And buying an IPhone isn't on my top of the list.

If both Bitcoin and fiat are accepted at the store, my question is: will using BTC to purchase the iPhone make sense when we're currently in the best BTC stack season?
The answer will be no, so why not use fiat currency?
This question reminds me of someone I knew who bought a car about 4 years ago when he ought to have stacked BTC with the car money and sold the BTC when it's ATH price to get the car he wanted, which was my advice to him, but he chose to go for the car instead despite my advice.

What's your thought on someone that chooses to use their Bitcoin to buy an iPhone?

I do not know why I do not find such option as buying with fiat or bitcoin so interesting. I believe that whether we buy with fiat or bitcoin, it's the same thing. The main question should be; are we willing to save our BTC for long or use it for day to day purchases.

Imagine that an iphone cost $2,000 and  as at today $2,000 can buy 0.026 BTC;

If I use BTC, I'll pay 0.026 BTC and then immediately use my fiat to rebuy BTC.

But if I use fiat, my 0.026 BTC remains.

So, provided I can buy back BTC at that time with fiat, the option of buying with BTC or fiat no longer make sense to me. This all goes down to who is willing to hold BTC for long and not buying with BTC or fiat.

This is a beautiful chart, I'll like to see it again by 2030 for iphone 20 promax

You know the bottom line here, if you have extra bitcoin that you can allocate to buy an Iphone, then don't hesitate to buy. It won't ruin your total bitcoin investment, except if you consistently spend your bitcoin for nothing valuable in the long run, that will definitely put your investment into a wasted opportunity in the end.

The thing is, people have different preferences on where or how to spend their bitcoin. An Iphone may not be so important for majority, but for some people here, owning an Iphone is like unlocking one of their dreams in life. What makes people happy, that becomes profitable for them as well.

The predicted scarcity of bitcoin in the nearest future, and the way big institutions are moving with this whole thing has brainwashed people into believing they should never sell theirs.
My opinion is that the 'hold Bitcoin for ever' mentality comes for the most part out of people who are currently on a loss they did not plan to have and are hoping through this mentality they will fix what went wrong.

-----
Then boommm, the exact opposite of that happens and the charts begin to drop massively. What happens after that? OMG?! Triggers the normal panic attack that, out of confusion and desperation, can make them sell the same somewhat "reserved" coins for the bearest minimum just to avoid losing everything. What looks like 'eternal faith' isn't really--- FOMO has a big role to play in this thing I'm telling you.
Do you know a shop over there that accepts crypto payment and the owners are still alive? Have we all been set lose now? I have since been living in deep trepidation over the last few years from the case of an alleged attack on store owners for displaying banners that read " we accept Bitcoin payments here". This is the second time I'm making reference to that post, but I just can't find it anymore.
About losses, I don't think they are at a loss since they made a bit more profit higher than the actual price of the iPhone.
Ehh, I didn't really say anything about losses. Maybe you missed a quote from someone else?

The answer will be no, so why not use fiat currency?

You can just buy back the same amount of BTC with your fiat right after. As many people have already said, there isn't really much difference between paying with BTC or fiat.

This question reminds me of someone I knew who bought a car about 4 years ago when he ought to have stacked BTC with the car money and sold the BTC when it's ATH price to get the car he wanted, which was my advice to him, but he chose to go for the car instead despite my advice.

Phone and car are both pretty much necessities for work and everyday life. The whole point of investing in Bitcoin is to improve your life and be able to spend it when you need to, not to hold it until you die.
So if you actually need the car and you've already reached your investment goal, there's nothing wrong with selling some BTC to buy it.
It only becomes a waste and mistake when you're buying it for the flashy lifestyle or to show off, without thinking long term.

If the only available means of purchasing the iPhone in the said shop is bitcoin then i don’t see an issue with using your bitcoin, apart for fluctuations in the value of bitcoin i don’t see any other challenge with using it to make a one time purchase, all the seller will do is calculate the value equivalent of the iPhone in bitcoin so to me it makes no difference, i know that it is good to hold once bitcoin on long-term basis but once in a while there might be need to spend it too.

Well, Apple has recently increased the price of the iphone 17 and so the new amount in BTC would be approximately 0.116 BTC.

0.116 BTC? So they raised the price of the iPhone 17 to over $8k?

Oh shit, that was a typo. Thanks for highlighting, it's actually 0.0116 BTC.

That's true. I don't find any reason why wouldn't anybody use their bitcoins to buy an iphone, in fact, anything they want to if they have already accumulated enough amount of bitcoins.
One might argue over the amount of bitcoins that might be "enough" for an individual but everyone has a number.

Using Bitcoin to pay for an iPhone isn’t unusual for those who do so, as long as the store accepts Bitcoin payments. My decision is this: if the store where I’m buying the iPhone accepts both Bitcoin and fiat currency, I’d rather pay with fiat than Bitcoin. If you hold fiat, its value will decrease over time, whereas Bitcoin has already proven itself as a hedge.
In my opinion, those who choose to use Bitcoin to buy an iPhone probably don’t mind when their Bitcoin holdings decrease.
If you use Bitcoin to pay for it but later realize that holding that amount of BTC would be more beneficial in the long run, you can simply use fiat to buy the same amount of BTC back.
Since I’m aware of just how beneficial it is to hold Bitcoin for the long term, if I had to choose, I’d definitely use fiat currency to buy an iPhone. I’ve been using an iPhone all this time, and in terms of the price of an iPhone in fiat currency, I’ve had to spend a fair amount. If I were to follow the latest trends, that wouldn’t be a good choice.

What matters here is how you choose to allocate your assets, not which currency you use to pay for the iPhone.
Yes. It all depends on each individual’s choice of which currency to use when buying products like an iPhone. It’s important to think carefully about how your assets are managed.

Spending our bitcoin isn’t a bad idea at all and to be honest what the essence of holding bitcoin for a long period of time when we don’t have plan on spending it when we reach our goals. Spending our bitcoin might not be proper for those that are seeking for a long term investment in bitcoin and hasn’t made much profits yet but those that have made some profits wouldn’t find it difficult to use their bitcoin for something they want.
For those that haven’t hold for long and profits hasn’t yield much, I would advice them to stick to holding their bitcoin and not spend it, they should use their fiat for any of their purchase and when they reach their goals with bitcoin they can spend it then.

The topic it's quite generic I know just curious after having a conversation that circled around this area.

Supposed there's a marketplace where devices are sold (let's use this first)
And they accept Bitcoin and Fiat.
What's your thought on someone that chooses to use their Bitcoin to buy an iPhone?

Lol I used an iPhone because it's one of the most compared when it comes to Bitcoin and what people tend to buy.
And I wanted to see perspective when luxury spending is on the line.
Why not? If buying an iphone makes you happier without plunging you into debt (like buying on credit) or undermining your financial stability (in some countries, people live for a year on the money an iphone costs), then go for it. After all, life isn't just about accumulating bitcoin (wealth); that wealth is meant to be spent - used to achieve your goals. For some, those goals involve iphones, sports cars, and the like; for others, it’s something else entirely. We shouldn't judge people for choosing to spend their money on luxury items - it’s their choice.

As for me personally, I wouldn't buy an iphone (whether with crypto or traditional currency), unless there was a pressing need for it. I simply don't need one. From an economic standpoint, it makes no sense: you’d be parting with an appreciating asset to acquire an item (essentially an overpriced status symbol) that depreciates over time. Generally speaking, all gadgets (smartphones, laptops, etc.) become obsolete very quickly; they should only be purchased if they serve as tools to achieve specific goals - such as acting as a work device.

What's your thought on someone that chooses to use their Bitcoin to buy an iPhone?
This guy probably invested in bitcoin at the right time (and made a profit), so now he can afford such extravagance. Smiley

Let's say that I can afford to buy it but that's going to cost a lot on my holdings. As much as I would like to have one, this is what I remember for this type of purchase.

This is not good looking at all to someone with investment mindset. I wonder how the person that use 13 BTC to acquire iPhone 4s that year would be feeling now. At today's price, that bitcoin is worth over $1m for God's sake but that phone is not longer in existence. Even if it exists, no one is proud to hold it again.

We hold bitcoin because we expect it to appreciate in value over time but phones automatically lose value the more the latest versions are being released. For now, I won't make that mistake that I will regret later because I know those guys are out there somehow regretting. The best thing to do is to convert coins to fiat and buy your dream items.

I don't think there any problem regarding payment system anyone can use any currency. Using Bitcoin as payment maybe a cleanest method but fiat will be faster in term of payment speed. For fiat payment we need to give cards details but for Bitcoin there is nothing to give.

But the problem will only happen if that marketplace is illegal or on the dark web. Then if you buy using Bitcoin you can face some problems such as their phones may be fake or refurbished and you can't take legal action against them. For this I think it is definitely important for you to know first whether that marketplace is actually legal or an illegal platform so that if somehow they have given fake things then you can take legal action. They suport fiat maybe its not an illigal platform.

I won’t judge this as right or wrong because I’ve also exchanged my bitcoin for a house (it’s the same situation just a different item) though I might avoid using my bitcoin to buy an iphone cause its not profitable for me.

But if any of us want to have an iphone with bitcoin it also doesn't matter because maybe they have different needs and especially for now the standard iphone in some circles looks much more prestige (in my neighborhood like that) maybe it's a good choice for them even though they have to sacrifice a little bit of their bitcoin to get it then it's also not a problem.

Bitcoin is very valuable to me right now and as long as I can afford to buy things with fiat currency I won’t part with the my assets in bitcoin.  But if theres a truly urgent need and our financial situation isnt sufficient it’s okay to part with some of our bitcoin though these days an iphone shouldn’t be considered a basic necessity that needs to be acquired immediately.

It's just like exchanging your fiat that you've gathered for a while because you plan to get a phone into a bitcoin and then using the Bitcoin to get a iPhone, I don't see anything bad in this...

It seems like some people have become a slave of their own Bitcoin bags, they can't spend it without thinking that they did something wrong, who is going to spend that Bitcoin in the end? If you are not careful someone else will eat your sweat.

Bitcoin is meant to be a source of freedom for your life, spend it when you want to and only make sure you don't run out of Bitcoin, in the end death is the most acertain thing in the world, start living like humans not some alien with 500yesrs left to live.
