I observed that the thread mostly focus on National team football not majorly on Clubs. The discussion there are usually about AFCON, AFCON qualifiers, FIFA world cup/qualifiers.  This was a topic created in 2021 : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5329144.msg56734198#msg56734198 but no one participated in it.

Perhaps you are right, maybe this one could do better than the other one. So far, this thread has made it to three pages, but what I find most fascinating is that 60% of the discussion here has been related to my comment. The other 30% are discussions on why the league isn’t popular, and less than 10% are about the CAF Champions League games itself.

Why forget in hurry the saying that once one finger touched oil it affects others, our football has been compromised my management the drop on people,fan interest affect all things, see selection without professionalism and proficiency will amount failure, in today most Nigeria team the see as best is not even the best in the societies but chosen by indirect means that is the reason many setback our even the feed of football required those who have football as talent as well develop it as skill, but using the influence of personal position to put your relatives or son in the dream of football will course national disgrace and failure that what we are seen.

I don't even think the blame only lies on our local teams, facts still remain that local teams in my home country isn't worth a stepping stone to bigger Europeans teams because I don't think scouts even go there, that's the problem and I think the individual national sports and football federation are to be blame. One thing government don't know is that alot of profit can and is generated from football and if they do well, they are bound to make profit.

To a large extent you cannot blame our local teams though I expect our people would have also gone bigger than they currently are understanding how big the opportunities around football in general is these days and how investing in it can also be highly profitable. But the reality is football or soccer did not emanate from Africa. When it comes to the modern soccer which we enjoy and play today. It was originated from the Great Britain especially from England where the first standard rules for it were established in 1863 according to records. Although way beforehand, the earliest known ancestors of the game is Cuju or what is also referred to as Tsu Chu which was traced back to 2000 years ago during the Dynasty of Han, down to the times of Greece and Rome who played a game called Episkyros Harpastum both similar to the soccer we play today as well as Merosmerica period too who played a rubber ball game called Tlachtli. None of these accounts shows were Africa was involved in playing football right from the Stone Age till when the Europeans brought soccer to life in the modern way we play and enjoy it today, so it could also be a factor which influences our performance today.

It does not go without saying that this reproduction of different threads which could be taken under a single thread is part of one of many reasons why the gambling board is viewed in a different way from all other boards in the forum.

CAF champions league just as the world cup is an international competition for football clubs in Africa and if it can't be discussed in a thread as the AFCON thread then I do not know where else.

There are more than one thread for the leagues like the EPL and co. There is no need for that. Creating topics that already have a similar topic on the forum is discouraged. I don't know if there is a rule against it, but it's discouraged.
You don't need to sound rude or condescending to make your point or opinion.
The purpose of a thread is to have all discussion relating to that topic on that thread.

If there is no need for this thread, then there surely is no need for UCL thread, since they basically represent the same thing for both continents, this is a continental cup and it needs such precision. There is nothing messy about this topic, what makes it messy is how you guys keep spamming this place with your complaints instead of boiling down to the real discussion. You may like to know that the current topic of the other thread in AFCON 2027 and not in anyway related to the CAF champions league.

Enugu Rangers Vs MC Alger match on 17th October looks like a strong match judging from their performances in the playoffs. Since the match will be played at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, I hope Rangers don't perform badly in front of their fans. What do you guys think?

It has been many years, from the record it shows that Enyimba was the last Nigerian team to have won it. This automatically means that Enugu Rangers are not going to win that champions league. I’m not surprised that Nigerian teams are not making exploits at international levels. The league are poorly managed, no investment in the league. So we can’t be expecting to achieve same level of success with those that are injecting millions of dollars in their league. Those that will come to your league and buy your best players, are they the people you want the Nigerian teams to compete against and win in the champions league?

You have talked well but what you said is not well complete as you only said Eyimba won the last CAF Champions League but you did not let people know the year Eyimba won the league..

Eyimba won the league in 2004 which will be 22 years ago. So the probability that a Nigerian club would win the league this season is very low just like you have said.

Eyimba first won the league in 2003.

I agree with you but it's only on our men's team. For over twenty years now, none of our local teams have won the CAF champions league again after Eyimba FC last won it in 2004 making it a back to back win after winning it earlier in 2003 too. Our government has neglected the entire football system and we can't compete with those North African countries that are almost close to European level. Can you guess where Eyimba FC is currently at? They can not even compete in the Nigerian Premier league anymore due to poor management. They are currently the last team on the table might get relegated to lower division next season.

Our women teams are not like our men's team. They have been making us proud internationally despite facing the same problem of poor funding. Our Super Falcons is the most successful team in Africa so far. They dominate Africa football in general and never disappoint even outside Africa. The same thing applied to our young falcon team.

It is football brother and in that game, no champion reigns forever. I understand your feeling but what we are seeing now is a sharp decline in football generally including the national team that failed to qualify for the 2026 World cup. If they overhaul the management of NFA, I'm sure something good might  begin to happen to Nigerian football.

‎Caf Champions league Format

1. ‎Qualifying rounds (preliminary phases) : 2 rounds are being played, whereby teams paired up  plays two-legged (home and away) matches. Note: The top and strongest team doesn't play in first round, instead they play in the second round.

2. ‎Group stage:  16 teams from the preliminary phase qualifies to the group stage.  The groups are in 4 (A,B,C,D) , where the top two teams qualifies to the Quarter-finals (2 legged) up to the Final.

3. ‎The Final : The CAF champions league final is different from the ones that are common to us. This one is played in 2 legs (Home and Away),  with each finalist host one match. Away goal rule still exist in our Champions league.

Well, I don't really know why the CAF competitions don't have a wider coverage nor being shown on channels as other sports competitions do and that has made people not to take it seriously or to even know such competitions are ongoing and I might think the fault is coming from the organizers because they have refused to prioritize the tournament and give it the visibility it deserves that's why it's less talked about nor watched.

I think having a thread to discuss African football is not a bad idea and we shouldn't be little our self because why do we have a thread for UCL if we can't have ours?, let's do away with sentiments please. Nigerian teams are not really performing well as expected as the women team does though I don't know maybe the NFA are not really taking care of the players as they ought to do and I also think the management needs to be dissolve to have a good working system.

The sports sector of Nigeria is heavily underfunded which prevents these teams from buying quality players that can deliver great results. Nigeria has the talents to achieve that trophy multiple times, go into the streets and see talents, but most of them are not encouraged and they scamper into other careers for survival. It would even interest you to know that often times, Nigerian agents and player management team dupe their client and limit their success. My captain at the then Riverlane in Enugu was duped and that shattered his career hopes, we've a lot of similar ugly stories around.

Hopefully, Rangers can at least attempt to go far in the competition, they've been champions in NPFL for 9 times with their last being 2023/24 season.

There is no thread that was created for "European football discussion" and that won't work because European football is very big and popular. You can't include all the leagues and European football in one thread. African football is different. The thread wasn't meant to discuss only AFCON, it's everything football. So it doesn't make sense to have a separate thread.
Would it make sense for people to start creating threads like "Egyptian league" or "Nigerian League", when there is an African discussion board? People don't talk about these leagues as much, that is why they are all in one board. It's not a forum rule, but it's just a way to keep things civil. You don't have to be hostile about.

I agree with the points that you have made. It is indeed the decline.
One this is sure that can reverse this trend is funding. It is not just the Nigerian side though, if african countries can intentionally invest in their teams both local and national, they would soon be drawing the attention the rest of the world like the other leagues. It is not as simplistic as I have written it but at least we get the idea.

It is a big shame that Nigerians think that everything should be done base on corruption and sentiments, sometimes i wonder if they don’t observe what happens in other countries, there are certain sectors of the economy that politics shouldn’t be brought in, see Nigeria that is supposed to be among the high FIFA ranked countries because of young stars scattered everywhere in the country but corruption won’t allow such stars see the opportunity to feature in matches. Today Nigeria teams in different categories both junior and senior can’t do well in competitions because of corruption and poor selection, it is really annoying.

The thing is that some people are comfortable seeing the gambling board filled with similar threads without doing anything to see it cleaned up.

However, this case is different. I was part of the persons that felt this thread should be locked, but after thoroughly looking through both threads. It is possible that the two threads can exist because the focus of discussion is different.
