How about the seed phrase? He did not backup the seed phrase somewhere like on paper?

One thing about phone password is that to brute force it is hard. After like 5 attempts, it may keep doubling the times needed to try another password.

He should backup the seed phrase on paper or on metal sheet like stainless steel or titanium next time.

He have his everything saved in that phone but the issue is that the device have some circuitry problem and the shopkeeper told him that we can't recover the phone while saving the data .
Although time has passed and he also doesn't know the password of that phone. He have saved every single detail in the notes on that phone.

How do you mean by everything saved in the phone, including the seed phrase... If you were talking about a computer, I'll say he saved the backups right in the computer, but for phone, he should be able to have written down the seed phrase somewhere else.

That's sad, there's no way to recover it and it's only through him. I'm not a recovery expert with the data from the phone but I think if it's doable with the ssd/hdd of PCs and laptops.

Maybe with the mobile devices, there can also be possibility that it can be recovered. But it's about knowing if the file was there or saved notes or logs where he has put those important things like the seed.

The only way to recover your data is through your Bitcoin wallet's recovery seed, if you friend failed to write it down then he doesn't know what he was doing or maybe he used a custodial wallet?

If he used a custodial wallet he won't get the recovery seed, the company that owns the custodial wallet have total control of the recovery seed for every users, this is why you must never go for any Custodial wallets.

Many crypto investors still don't understand that there is a different between custodial and non-custodial crypto wallets, if you want an operation close to the bank style then go custodial, if you want total control you must pick non-custodial wallet.

If it's a low-end device, there's still a chance to recover the data as long as the memory part of the device isn't damaged. The question is whether it's worth it to recover it or not, because recovering data from a damaged device isn't cheap. But if he has already tried to let it go, then so be it. But in the future when Bitcoin prices are higher, he may regret not recovering it.

It is possible to unlock the phone without any data loss. All you have to do is go to a good and advanced recovery shop. They have some kind of software through which they can unlock the phone and also recover the deleted files on the phone. But remember, do not tell them that the phone has BTC wallet, and also don't leave the phone with them for work, do it under your observation.

About the sharing information to people who claim they can recover wallet, i agree with you on that, some people will use this opportunity to message them that they can recover the wallet for them, and all they need to do is to give them their seed phrase and they will recover everything for them, we should never trust anyone, ask questions and do it yourself, instead of sharing your important information and regret it in the end.

The sigban has cost some people a lot after they have been busing positing low content posts. They are banned and they remember their long ago account. This account is still a newbie but I noticed that the accounts that recently woke up are many and the only reason I see to it is sigban.

He woke up and post three a topics, one on September 29, another topic on 30th and another topic on October 1. If he wanted to ask this question on this topic, he would have posted about it alone, but he posted other two topics and this was not the first one but the second topic. That shows that he is only looking for means to earn merits but his two other topics were moved to off-topic.

I don't know which wallet your friend used, and whether he is writing down his wallet seed phrase on a piece of paper or in a diary?
Because if your device is broken, if you have the wallet seed phrase, then it is possible to recover all the assets in your wallet, but if your friend does not write it down, then I think it is not possible to recover the wallet in any way.
So it doesn't matter which wallet you use, the point is that the wallet you use should store the wallet seed phrase very securely.

That's what I said, that it's not cheap because you need an expert to extract the data successfully. But I don't know, seeing that he didn't reply and didn't give any information, I guess there's no point in discussing this anymore since we don't even know if this story is real or made up by him.

I don't know which wallet your friend used, and whether he is writing down his wallet seed phrase on a piece of paper or in a diary?

Seed phase is the only requirement for accessibility of every account either active or lost, want to recover any lost asset one most be able to provide that seed phase and doesn't need to be bothered about a lost or broken device. 
Just as mentioned,  him not been able to recover that lost assets is basically because he has misplaced that seed phase and not because of any unknown reasons, so its of know use looking for means of accessing the assets if that seed phase can not be recovered because it is only through that seed phase that the account can be accessed.

Then another thing is to avoid factor resetting because this particular action will wipe the phone empty and we know how that one will cost more losses. Another thing to check for is seedphrases which is very important. If he's able to find his seedphrases he used tracked back to 2016, he will not need the mobile phone for anything because he already gotten what he was looking for. Seedphrases is ultimate and it clears all doubt because it's more a like the code to your wallet where you store your Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.

This situation is a bit hard, because your friend is not telling us if he has a seedphrase written somewhere,  2016 is a long time back, and mobile device of that time will be a bit laggy, if he had a seed phrase written somewhere it could have been easy to login into a new device and make a transaction.

Your friend will need the services of a phone expert to be able to log into that device, it would have been more easier for the community to provide solution if he had access to the device and was struggling to make BTC transactions, but the situation whereby you cannot even log into the device to ascertain what to do is a different ball game all together.

Didn't he write down the seed phrase on a paper or backed it up somewhere? That's why we keep preaching against keeping fund on a non custodial wallet without keeping the seed phrase intact. The slogan "not your key not your coin" is a popular slogan which implies that if you don't have the key to your wallet, you are no longer the owner because if anything should happen to that device you stored those asset, everything is gone and your efforts is wasted. I don't think there is anything they can do to help him if he didn't save the seed.

If it were to be me, I’d very very careful with taking the phone to a data analyst before exploring the wallet recovery options. If the seed phrase is still stored somewhere, then recovering the wallet in another device is very much possible, even without recovering the old phone. But if the seed phrase isn’t there, then even resetting the phone would make matters far more worse than it already is, so that’s not an option I would consider, except I’ve properly assessed the recovery options and seen there’s no way to access the seed phrase from that device.

I use and take care of my phones and other mobile devices like if they have technical problems, I will never bring them to stores for repairing. I would like to clearly reveal that I am not rich but I choose this practice because I know risk of possible data breaches at any stores. To be ready for that, I don't store important things on my phones, my wallets are never on phones or mobile devices. If there is a wallet on such devices, it's a very small hot wallet that I afford to lose without any technical repair at stores.

For your clearness, the first issue he is having is that the phone is damaged. Secondly he forgot his passwords which ain't a big deal cuz he have saved everything in his notepad of a Gmail. Third his Gmail password is also noted in that phone unfortunately and he tried much to recover but was failed.
