When he said "things like this happen", it looks like giving the excuse for Ledger company so we can forgive it for its negligence.
shit happens, but when shit keeps happening with the same company its beyond negligence. i mean, the ones behind this were preparing to do this for months. if ledger had been doing secret shopper tests monthly for all their authorized third party sellers, they would have caught this way earlier and minimized the damage.

A person in his status should be in the community's favor and say that things like this shouldn't happen.
he didn't get his status by caring about the community. people like CZ, all they care about are their own interests.

Open source wallets remains the best wallets to use, it come with less risks and also give you full control over our crypto holdings.
it's baffling why this keeps being said on this topic when open source vs closed source has nothing to do with a physical attack.
those ledgers sold by CryptoBilis were physically compromised, and with a supply chain attack like that, it doesn't fucking matter what code your hardware wallet is running.

Although Trezo's reputation and trust precedes that of Ledger, because of some obvious reasons like the ones you mentioned but it's not enough to totally condemn Ledger wallet, it is still gaining ground despite some shortcomings including this recent drama that is surrounding it. As for CZ support for Ledger, I believe that he is entitled to his opinion, it is left for anyone who wants to use a hardware wallet to do their research and decide for themselves. I also quite agree that we cannot hold Ledger responsible yet for what a reseller sold to victims because it is quite clear that Ledger is not a part of the scam.

Nah! He is not entitled to his opinion. He is a stakeholder in this game, he is very influenced person, he knows how to play the cards very well to convince people to do what he want and if that is going to harm people in one or the other, we would not speak keep quiet. It seems you don't really know how very influential that guy looks, you should see how he mobbed people when he says thing, CZ like on a tweets can make a cap goes from nothing to millions.

He is very fond of this behavior, that's how he said similar thing, was endorsing Binance and Trust wallet. These are the two most popular product of Binance ecosystem he was pushing when people were looking for a way to get access to their money as if Binance is immune to hack and exploits.

Ledger did what they ought not to, he is not in the best place to tell them how to react. I don't like ledger and nothing will change that. It doesn't mean Trezor is the best, they have had their own fair share of failure with users privacy.

As a matter of fact, CZ isn't wrong to say ledger is one of the best wallet out there. It has indeed stood the test of time.

The best wallets are often the most targeted because hackers know a large number of crypto users are making use of the wallet. Ledger is targeted frequently because it was part of the first wallets used in crypto, and many are using the wallet to store their coins, particularly long term holders.

Unfortunately, these things happen. Ledger has lost its reputation in recent years. CZ was wrong to publicly support Ledger, though his words were not false.
It's true that being one of the best is also one of the hottest in the eyes of the hackers, and that's why they have been attacked several times. We have to conclude which one is safer these times. Even if someone who's so supporting to crypto and influential like CZ says this, he cannot change the minds of many right now due to the CryptoBilis fiasco. Aside from that, there were data leaks that have happened on Ledger. There's also the controversial Ledger Recover, what else can we say about it? people have realized they need to move forward and find a more reputable one and that's Trezor and the other brands.

CZ has the right to tweet and say whatever he like. I don’t know what’s his motives are but I won’t crucify him for making a tweet. The people that I will blame are the gullible flowers who believes everything that their celebrities said without doing their own research. Imagine if everyone is aware of themselves, do you think any influential person can easily manipulate or deceive them?

But as what I know, they don't have that secret shopper thing.

But what you say is really good suggestion, because somehow it can give them an idea if the device sold still in good shape and not same thing today which is tampered.

Their South East Asian counter part just destroy the name official reseller. Then many of those good companies running honest business will get affected with this. Since majority of crypto users will not going to buy a hardware wallet with them anymore, because they might get afraid to buy another tampered wallets.

What happend to good old hackaton's for the ledgers and other devices that needs penetrating?
I mean reading the support message from ledger its a re-supplyer issue , but still how are these contracts setup?
is there any location inspect before a contract is signed? these are thing you need to know before dealing with highly sensitive devices.

Unless a new stronger encryption/cipher fly's by any time soon we gotta do it with what we have.
Also pretty sure Quantum computing is gonna be a problem with the sha-256 pretty soon as it just quadruppled in qubits at caltech with a whopping 6,100 qubits meaning where close at that point it being capable of crashing any hashed encryption to be honest so buckle you're seatbelts.

There's nothing stopping him from commenting. But you know this guy has a lot of motives behind it. He seems like he cares about this case, but his tweets aren't based on caring --- they're just a publicity stunt. It's so fake. And the people who believe he cares about all this are the most ridiculous. He doesn't care about anything but his business.

After recent hack? There was never a hack on ledger hardware wallet, all these happened because of the official reseller whom Ledger trusted, they are the ones that worked on the wallets and sold them so that they can one day steal Bitcoin.

I can't lie I have always think that it could happen, because we were never present when the hardware wallets are been built, if something is going to happen in the future it would be because the hardware wallet manufacturer did something in their products.

Ledger is still not that bad apart from the fact that it's not open source like Trezor but I will always choose Trezor over Ledger anyday, now that this incident happened I hope that other hardware wallet companies will learn from it.

Not bad?

How to call the leak of data of hundreds of thousands of buyers of their devices that include full name, address and phone number? What about the knowledge that the seed can be extracted from their devices remotely and shared with third parties - as well as the fact that Ledger admits that they will hand over the same seed to the authorities if they ask?

It's not a hardware wallet that any normal person can say is most secure, but it's obviously important to people that their crypto Messiah tells them so and they'll believe it.
