This is nothing new. I mean I've seen different personalities here in our country that are getting arrested because of online gambling. Well, it's not like the same as the one in Indonesia, but the point is they're also big names that are getting arrested. This is a bit ironic though because the one who's supposed to protect their own countrymen are also involved in the operation of online gambling. The hypocrisy is at it's peak, and I wonder what will happen to the other people that are involved... or I should ask what will happen to all of them in that department including the highest in authority.

Indonesian government has banned gambling (both physical and online) in their country, but we know that it's not totally being followed. There are still many who are into gambling.

If I'm not mistaken, all 11 people were ordinary civilians who rented a service house belonging to a military member. However, the worse part is that the member who rented out the service house was aware of the gambling activities taking place there. Another mistake is that this service house is a facility that is not meant to be rented out. Therefore, the TNI member currently living in the service house has been detained and is undergoing examination. This TNI member is currently being detained and investigated by the military police.

I agree  after all, these are the very people who are supposed to enforce the law, not use their positions to protect illegal businesses. These are completely different levels of responsibility.
In my opinion, there's another important issue here - corruption. 
In this case I think,  the most important outcome of this investigation shouldn't just be punishing a few individuals, but proving that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of their rank, position, or connections.

I might be wrong, but I guess that military officer is part of the gambling operators. I read that a military officer that was detained is  Lt. Col. Arman who is serving in the intelligence unit of the military. If he gave out a military facility for an illegal gambling activity, then he is fully part of it. In a country where corruption is common, those found guilty might receive mild punishment or can even be acquitted. In my country, military officials are tried in a special court with different laws. So anything can happen, especially if the judges are corrupt.

There are no detailed reports from my local media yet. The suspicion of involvement could be true because it is still under investigation at this time. But from the news I obtained earlier, there were 11 operators, 6 males and 5 females at the time of the arrest, and the military personnel who rented out the place were not among the operators. Currently, there are two main accusations. First, he knew that civilians rented the place for gambling but did not report it. Second, official housing is not to be rented based on the Ministry of Security Regulation No. 13 of 2018, military official housing is prohibited from being sold, rented, or transferred to outside parties.

This TNI officer, a Lieutenant Colonel, has committed many mistakes. First, he misused government housing for rent, as it should only be occupied by active-duty TNI soldiers. Second, he did it intentionally, according to one source I have read. Third, he violated his oath as a soldier by ignoring his commitment to the state. Finally, he tarnished the image of the military. Therefore, I suspect he will face severe punishment soon, and he is currently detained pending further investigation.

I am not particularly surprised to hear this news, as Indonesia still needs significant improvement in all sectors, and cases like this are common knowledge here.

Naturally, it is disheartening that he abused his position and, judging by the news reports, did so without fear of consequences. I am not from Indonesia but this issue of making and breaking law by the elites and powers that be is nothing new anymore. This scenario is everywhere in the world were people do whatever they want just because they are in power and position that nobody can question them for their actions.

Law enforcement agencies that are supposed to uphold the law definitely lose their credibility when it turns out they were involved in protecting, or worse, running illegal businesses. This shows that humans are generally not law-abiding. That is why everybody needs oversight. You can't use the fact that a certain set of people are the ones supposed to uphold the law and leave them without supervision. They are just humans like every ordinary person. They have the capacity to break the law just like every other person.
The only way a system works is by proper checks and balances. It should be a cycle of checks and balances.

When a country bans something like gambling, it is expected that there will be illegal gambling, and it will be people with the means to do it who will do it. People who have the connections and the cover.
In some countries, even politicians and other governmnet offitials involve themselves in things like this because there is no one to check them. Nobody should have absolute power.

Based on the ITE Law Number 1 of 2024 Article 27 paragraph 2. The criminal penalty is 6 years in prison.
Not only that, all assistance from the government has been removed for people who are caught gambling online.

What's a perverse generation are we having today when government will see an entertainment as crime to do, when did an neglecting order insurgency and fraudulent activities that should be a thing of concern with less priority.

Is it that they are not being able to achieve regulating the gambling casino in their jurisdiction or they are only developing lack of passion to sing gambling progressing for no reason, now government are tired of going after the scammers and hunting after the gamblers, what a shame.
