Sometimes and sit down and wonder why a country like Nigeria with all the natural resources and talent people that we have, it is still difficult for some people. Many young people are trying their best to survive, some have jobs but their salary can not even cover their expenses while some people have spent so many years looking for work but still in vain. Even starting a small business can be frustrating when we consider rent, transportation, electricity and other daily expenses.
What makes it more painful and frustrating is that people are not even asking for too much, many people just want to work honestly and earn a good living, be able take care of their family and have some hope for the future.
I know that how problem didn’t start today and if we want to fix them, it won’t just happen suddenly but this particular question keeps coming to my mind;

Where exactly do you think we are getting it all wrong be it as a person or a country as a whole, is it our leadership, is it corruption or our attitude as so called citizens?

Nigeria has so much resources but you should also consider your popular in the country. You are too many, if you are not many, more people will benefit more from the resources but it is not like that. Another thing you should know is that as their are wealthy people, there are also poor people. Everybody can not all be wealthy. Even in countries like United States that many of you think has the best, if you get there today, you will see people that do not have house, you will see people that are also not rich and other kinds of people. You can say there are exception like Switzerland but life can not be the same in all countries. Countries like Switzerland are not common.

If the right system were available, then you can say that by being honest and hardworking, you can push yourself to the top by mere doing the right. ideally, the natural consequence of being hard working and honest is that you get good result but when you are in a faulty system, you get to experience some problem even when you are an honest person.

Take for instance our schooling system. most young guys goes into the higher institution with hopes and plans to be serious and intentional about their lives but unfortunately, when they come to discover that the system is already dead, all the zeal and passion dies instantly. when you finish and discover that what you are coming out with is just paper with zero experience and that you are meant to compete against those that are more connected that you are and that have stayed long on the field, it is just enough to kill every motivation that you have and push you to taking a route you never see yourself in.

In the end, it still takes you back to the government who have failed to create the right system for the honest and hardworking guys thereby encouraging people to only follow short cut that doesn't help any nation.

A lot of Nigerians were living a decent life even with a good paying job but this changed as soon as Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria president, his policies made the price of goods and housing to skyrocket and left so many Nigerians to suffer. The situation the present government kept the country has increased crime rate in the country and production of counterfeit water, medicine, fruits, drinks, and foods, which are the things that are making it difficult for an honest person to get a decent living in Nigeria. So to answer your question, it's our leaders and their corruption that gave rise to all the things I mentioned so they are responsible for an honest person not to get decent living in Nigeria.

Where exactly do you think we are getting it all wrong be it as a person or a country as a whole, is it our leadership, is it corruption or our attitude as so called citizens?

The key foundation of this problem is the leadership of the country because they are the ones that make policies which covers every sector in the economy, so if a bad policy is implemented it affects every area especially removal of fuel subsidy as every individual wether poor or rich uses and once the price goes up it affects everything and that's why we are living in abject poverty amidst the mineral resources we have.

Corruption is another factor to look at where Godfatherism has taken over the labour market and industries to the extent that if you don't have an insider or a top politician that recommends you for a Job you can't get a Job even as a first class graduate, it can only take the Grace of God to get a Job without connection. The country is deteriorating and needs to be fixed by voting in a leader with vision and who has empathy for the people.

The Nigerian government should be the major problem in this case, most qualified persons do not have a qualified job because they lack the connection that gets them the job, its not about credibility or qualifications in many occasions. Many people do not get paid as much compared to the work they do, corruption makes the bare minimum look like the most precious provision the government could give.

The minimum wage does not even cover the expenses a normal citizen needs to live a normal life, what do we do from here?

Nigeria has a lot of resources than most of some the African countries that are doing pretty well as of today. But the problem we have till tomorrow is bad governance, the leaders don't care about anybody. We have natural resources, as a matter of fact Nigeria is well blessed but the issues or problem behind our set back is what I have just stated above. I know everybody will not be as rich, but an average Nigerian is supposed to live an average live, not from hand to mouth.

Furthermore, Nigeria is where you see someone taking glory when his follow man or woman is suffering. We really don't put into action the one love we always claim and it's better we start seeing our selves as one Nigerian the better for all of us including our wicked leaders.

Geographically our country's position is important in the world but there are many limitations in the proper use of our natural resources. In this instance the leadership can be blamed or the foreign powers who are directing politicians from behind and creating obstacles to the country's development under various religious and extremist pretexts. Most of the people of our country are peace-loving but a class is trying in various ways to destabilize the country and foreign investment is not being attracted. Some are trying to create instability in the country by capitalizing on religious differences.

Some foreign powers are actively trying to create instability here. Most of the politicians in our country make decisions outside the interests of the people of the country to maintain their power, as a result of which the financially rich classes are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Due to the corruption of politicians, the gap between the rich and the poor in the country is increasing day by day and the key to wealth is going to the hands of the edit community. Talented people are leaving the country due to lack of good governance.

When the leadership is poor and the foundation is faulty, everything goes wrong automatically, Nigeria has everything, as a matter of fact, Nigeria is richer than many successful countries today but has nothing or will I say nothing much show, you can never hear our leaders bring ideas and work on those ideas, if you want to hear them talk thrash is during electioneering period when they will promise what they can never do.
The problem of this country is leadership, and I do not think that it will be fixed too soon because many of us hear prefer our people to be in the position of power, we do not want to know bad of a leader they are, all we know is that they should be in our power, is that not selfishness, a country that is ready for development and reform must take it upon themselves to change their leadership.

If we should go into detail and analyze it, you will discover that leadership is not just the only major contributing factor of the problem, however it contributes greatly to the problem and leadership is not just about the government but also about every individual in their respective position of leadership. Some people blame the government alone meanwhile we have individuals in different companies and organization serving as a managing director there and making the possibility of getting a job in that company very difficult for me and you meanwhile they have their favorite persons that they will easily give employment into that same company even though the person doesn't qualify, but you that have graduated with the best degree will be left behind.

That is what is happening in most companies, it's either you are the relative of the Oga in charge, or you pay your way in through bribery, but what if you don't have money to pay your way in, then other who have the money will get the opportunity while you are left out, the government are not responsible in cases like this. Corruption is in every sector, even in business places, that's why you will see someone buy a product for ₦1k and wants to sell it for ₦20k  Shocked

As someone mentioned, which is what was on my mind too, the issue of population growth is also a contributor to this problem. Some family don't have enough resource (no money, no business that they are doing, they don't have a company) and they already know the situation of the economy but when they start making babies, they will have like 5 -8 kids meanwhile they know that there's no company where this kids will work if they grow. In the more developed world, how many family is giving birth to 4-8 kids?

If you are looking for a honest man in Nigeria to live a decent life you will not see, because the system of Nigeria have taking its new turns where by it is only those who is in to crime make it. I know of a man who works in an office who is trying to be honest in everything, when the company was having a promotion where others were being promoted, he could not get promotion because of his honesty, Nigerians as a whole does not need a honest person, because honesty is not rewarded enough in Nigeria.

You are right. But  if you don't follow the orders of those so called foreign powers they will surely find a way to cripple your economy, cause caos and install another puppet leader by removing you from power. This isn't happening in Nigeria alone, most African countries are under a form of colonialism called Neo-Colonialism.  Our natural resources will keep going to the foreign hands until we Africans wake up and say enough is enough.  Look at the whole Sub sharan African nations with huge vast of natural resources, yet they are still poor. Even the ones that looks a bit developed where built by the foreigners not the actual indigenes there, example is South Africa and old rodeshia. Incompetent leaders will keep coming because our vote and choices are being sidelined.  These corrupt politicians have no place in heaven if I am to he honest, they have deprived people from benefiting from the country well because they keep stealing public funds.

If you should know the amount of money your politicians are looting every day in this country you will have no doubt that Nigeria have every resources needed to make the life of their citizens easier at least the barest minimum.the amount of money the politicians take away from the country only to enrich themselves and their families and generations yet unborn is enough to provide the citizens with the basic necessities of life. They are not asking for much at least the basics should be done. I think the politicians haven’t really played a good role towards helping the teaming population in the country even though everyone mustn’t be equal in wealth but in a country like Nigeria where there’s abundant resources capable of making it happen at least the common man should be able to afford the basic needs of life like food, shelter, clothing. But due to corruption and greed among the political leaders, they decided to convert everything into their personal gain and that’s why you see there’s high rate of suffering in the country.

The reward for honesty is dignity, you have given yourself that self respect of upholding what is right and obtainable regardless of the situation you found yourself, your yes is yes and your no is no. Honest person are the ones that are making decent living because they don't indulge in crime to make a living and every money they make they earned it, being honest brings contentment and genuity in your pursuit. Be honest and that is all that matters, and never seek for people validation.
