Gambling for fun is an addage used to describe a gambling based on responsible gambling practices that wouldn't necessarily lead the gambler into addiction or financial disaster.

It's a cliché whose true definition is subject to individual interpretations. For me, there's no such a thing as actually gambling for fun when money is at stake. The only gambling for fun is if I get free spins or bonuses I play from.

That's what the proponents of that conception assume. I wish we can video tape them while they're gambling and they lose, so we see their facial reaction. That should tell us if they actually believe in what they preach.

The statement itself has a dual meaning and also serves a dual purpose as well, when bettors are involved, it serves as a warning against irresponsible gambling which comes with lots of catastrophic effects which can lead to huge financial losses that could also result to psychological problems

But on the other hand, it is a means of awareness for us gamblers never to consider gambling as means of generating income cause it is not guaranteed. The only place that is guaranteed if profit is to the casinos and not the gamblers.

The main thing is that people initially start gambling for fun, but as time goes by, they fail to control their emotions and greed, and then, in the hope of making quick money through gambling, they gamble aggressively, taking additional risks beyond their means, resulting in the gambler gradually becoming addicted to gambling.

However, gambling is mainly for entertainment, gambling can never be a part of life, when gambling is a means of entertainment, people can control their emotions, can gamble on time, can have control within their limits, can reduce aggressive mentality and can save their life from the destruction of gambling.

Actually primary objective of winning and that of gambling are not same thing. I have seen many people who play for excitement and entertainment. And for them, profit is additional reward.

Many meanwhile play solely in  hope of earning money. However, it is not enough to simply control one’s emotion or stick to set budget while gambling.
Suppose one gambles every day within set budget. Never chasing loss. But he spends few hours at  casino every day. This is interfering with his work, sleep and time spent with his family. So, can his gambling be considered responsible simply because he stays within his budget? Certainly not.

Every game should have a purpose, something that motivates you to play and gives you a reason to do it. Of course, if you go to a casino and gamble with real money, your goal might be to make a profit. But if you play for entertainment, I think money shouldn't necessarily be the main thing. There should be some other goal, whether it's taking your mind off something or simply experiencing certain emotions.

For example, you might get those emotions by playing poker with friends using chips instead of real money. In that case, I can actually enjoy the game even more, while knowing that winning won't bring you any financial profit.

I dont believe it, none want to gamble with no intention of making money/profit or in other words there is none who gamble merely for fun.
The terms "gambling for fun" should not be taken literally because when someone say he is gambling for fun, it does not mean that he does not want to make profit.
For me gambling for fun is we are gambling for profit but we are also enjoying the process and the most important thing is that a loss should not affect us negatively.

Most people only get involved in gambling because there is a chance of winning more money than you put into it. That's always going to be the primary and original lure for someone getting involved. With sports betting you might be creating a bit of rivalry betting on games between friends, like choosing how many goals will be scored in a match and it can make you feel more connected to the event - you're eager for it to go the way you bet on it. However there is a dark side to gambling and that is when you stop having fun, just going through the motions because you've built a whole routine which becomes your life. Once you've sunk a large amount of money into it, you stop chasing profits and start thinking "if only I could just break even, get back to square one". Don't let yourself get to that point, but it means you probably should not be gambling more than once or twice a month.

Gambling with what you can afford to lose and let go of your losses without being emotional regardless the outcome of your session is what I call gambling for fun. I see gambling as a means of entertainment just like you go to the cinema to watch movies and you have to pay for your ticket.

That money I'm using to stake my bet is the money for my ticket and the game is the fun. If I win my bet, I see it as a compensation for entertaining myself with gambling. Nothing is free in Freetown

I am not after huge profit

I agree with you . Trying to get huge profit from gambling is where people problems starts. Due to fact that you are trying win big , it could make you to start overbetting, taking unnecessary risks, and staking more money you cant afford to lose.  You will continue doing this whereas your losses keeps piling up and losing more money than you've won. It could even lead to addiction because you've put your whole focus and  mindset in making it big. As a gambler you should be satisfied with whatever profits your stake brings because the chances of getting huge profit is low. Even the people who manage to win big amounts of money are merely lucky and they might have played and loss many times before managing to hit a jackpot.

you can definitely enjoy gambling and still want to win. for me the difference is whether losing affects your mood or finances. wanting a profit doesn't automatically mean you're not playing for fun

Everybody wants to win, if winning isn't the target then the gambler can do slot or different things for fun that are not gambling and if the target is winning without monetary gain then they can just play games with the aim to win.
Whenever I gamble I want to win and I want to win money, I'm not excited about losing but gambling with what I can afford to lose  makes the losses manageable since I would have probably spent thr money on something else of less importance anyway so gambling with it and winning more money from it is exciting.

I've said many times that gambling shouldn't be treated as a way to make money, but only as a PAID form of entertainment! That way, there will be fewer disappointments and problems in life.
 I always describe my attitude toward gambling as being like, for example, going to a restaurant where, sometimes, the chef might treat you to an extra dish, or refund you for one of the dishes you ordered, or the restaurant owner might raffle off a cash prize among the guests.

I’ve seen it happen more than once, in fact. These were professional poker players not the famous ones everyone knows, but rather those who fly under the radar. The point is, it is possible. That said, when I tried it myself, I found it incredibly difficult, multi-tabling demands intense mental effort and a high level of focus it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. On top of that, you need an innate ability to stay composed and avoid tilt. If you have that, you can actually make money from gambling provided, of course, you don’t hit a downswing, lol.

In my estimation, gambling for fun is similar to playing a soccer game in PlayStation games.

I disagree with this ideology that "gambling for fun is an addage to describe a gambling based on responsible practice " that is not true and it is not generally perceived that way. The fact that someone is gambling to make profit or gain doesn't make the person irresponsible or doesn't mean he's not practicing a good gambling habit. Some people who claims to gamble for fun usually become victim of addiction meaning it is not everyone that said they are gambling for fun is actually doing that. Gambling for fun is commonly seen as gambling with money you can afford to lose.

The reason why most of us find ourselves gambling today is to make a little profit, no matter how little it is. I don't think anyone would be involved in gambling without having the desire to win, even though they are gambling for fun. There will be a time when winning comes to mind, and when that doesn't happen, it might force the person to begin to chase after winning by all means to prove they can win and analyze games properly, that's why addiction comes in, for someone who started gambling for fun at first ended up as an addicted gambler.

I think that if we can fix the gambling budget, we can control many things. We will never be able to make  consistent profit. But we can control the amount of our losses through  fixed budget. But there are many people who, even after fixing the budget, cannot stay within that limit, cannot control their emotions. So before fixing the budget, a gambler should learn how to be consistent in any decision by controlling their emotions. There are many people who start betting for fun, but after a while, they cannot control their emotions and continue betting aggressively. Which makes them addicted in the future. So the purpose of betting is never to make a profit, such a mentality cannot be created. But even if you bet for entertainment, you can get entertainment in that betting only when you make a profit. I beleive many people see gambling for fun in their own different perspective. Maybe some people see when they are winning as fun. While some dudes will easily accept any outcome without thinking twice or make any attempts of chasing their lost which I suggest should be the true definition of gamble for fun. However, it still depends on how we see gamble. If as a gambler, all what you see or consider as gambling for fun is only when you are on your winning streak, then you're not being fair to yourself. Why because you will be forced to chase lost when in bad times just to get your own kind of fun, and trust me it can expose you to a more higher lost.

I gamble for fun and I put certain budgeting in it. But it doesn't mean that the desire to make some profits isn't there, of course it's there. We are having fun and might just as well have some profits if it's possible. Although the better mindset with this is about acceptance, we are not hard on ourselves if we don't profit and we lose the bankroll that we set at the time we gamble. This is a way to protect your heart and mind if you are gambling for fun and if you win and make some money, you can consider that you're simply lucky at that time because the result is different from what you're expecting.

There is not a single gambler who does not want to win, because in truth winning is part of the fun. A clear distinction between gambling for fun & gambling where financial gain is the primary objective lies in the way they play. You know, none of my broski who gamble for fun make large bets, they are very careful about that.

On the other hand, I also have a few broski in our social circle who could be considered high rollers, they always make large bets for slots, the minimum bet they make is $2. I have never seen them play for anything less when using their own deposited balance (unless they are using bonus balance).

By virtue of the normal standard, every one of us should develop an interest in gambling for fun and not to make a profit; this is not because we don't have interest in it, but because we don't see it as a mandatory achievement. I get your point op . I will say anyone that comes into gambling always come with the hope of making profit . But there are some that their primary purpose of gambling is the fun that comes with , being a form of entertainment. While there are some folks that come in with the aim of getting rich through it within a short period of time .

Even those that are gambling for fun can end up getting addicted to gambling without noticing it . That’s why the best thing one can do is to maintain appropriate gambling habit , work with budget and focusing on risk management and stuff .
