Polls like this offer no value. They only further FUD within the vast majority of the US population who are stupid, incompetent, puppets who want to be reality TV celebrities. The other 25 percent (too optimistic?) just get irritated at the interpretation of this junk.

Besides, the purpose of polls is to spread propaganda not to capture accurate demographics.

As a selfish american, I would vote that it be illegal.

Why?

Because allowing something like bitcoin to have power gives poor countries more power. Right now the dominance of the world's major currencies gives the US and other 1st world countries huge power over trade.

I'm also currently involved in a business that benefits from government manipulation of exchange rates (the fact that china suppresses the Yuan's value vs the dollar saves me thousands of dollars a year).

From a purely financial standpoint, I benefit from the current corrupt system.

Why are you filthy rich or a politician?

Because fiat money is not good for you if you're not. In fact you are working most of your lifetime for the benefit of those groups. This is only partially offset by the USD worldwide ripoff.

You realize politicians are mostly bought and paid for by corporations right? Yes, things like high tax rates piss me off, but that's more then made up for by the money I can make off the backs of people being paid less then a living wage, which is made possible by the government.

I don't feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick with current system, so I'm fine with it.

Well, 46% of Americans believe in Creationism according to this. It makes me guess that the amount of idiots is somewhere between 46% and 47%  Wink

I am a reformed "Calvinist" Christian.  I have no specific denomination. I hold the NKJV Bible to be the inerrant Word of God and fully know "Creationism" to be true...and I am an ardent supporter of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin fits fully within the Biblical principles of justice and equality - "equal weights".  Bitcoin is open, transparent, and begets equal weights throughout any system it is implemented in. The current monetary system is exactly the opposite, shrouded in darkness and crookedness - unequal weights.

Proverbs 20:23 NKJV
Differing weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

The reason why so many of my kind are against Bitcoin is because all it ever was used for in old days was contraband and other evil things.  This is not so anymore, fortunately.  Sadly, it is our/my fault for allowing my kind to continue being against Bitcoin.  Every day i attempt to change this false understanding among any Christian i meet.

Gotta love generalizations, eh? I know how you feel.  Wink

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

People usually fear what they don't understand. Majority of average consumers have no clue how Bitcoin differ from traditional 'digital money'. The most common argument i used to hear is "Money is already digitalized, why we need Bitcoin ?"

Information is already in books, so why do we did the internet?

Those same people who voted against Bitcoin use smartphones that wouldn't be available if the likes of Bitcoin developers didn't secure the system.

Hell, even the buggy whip industry feared the automobile until somebody came along and suggested/shown that the same whips could be used during sex in their private homes, till some other dude finally came along and shown that the act in question could be distributed via a secure network, whereupon serious money could be made, but damn those transfer fees, for only if there were some sort of money transferring thingy...

Thanks for the video link, that is pretty interesting. Even though it may be true that people fear what they don't know, I don't see how it makes this any less of a big deal. The fact of the matter is 47% of Americans would be for banning the use of Bitcoin for money. Why or how they came to that belief is a non issue, as the result is still the same... 47% of Americans for banning the use of Bitcoin for money. Sure, the reason is important as to how we can change this number and get more people on our side, but how they came to this conclusion is not the important thing here as far as how this can affect Bitcoin.

I get what you guys are saying and I agree with you mostly, but it doesn't make this any less of a big deal. We need to make a great effort to explain Bitcoin and how it works and why its important to American citizens if we ever want a majority to support our cause. Politicians and the government could do anything to Bitcoin at this moment- even flat out ban it, and according to this poll hardly anyone would care. Do you guys not see a huge issue with this? I certainly do, we need the people on our side to keep the government in check. The more people that are on our side the more they need to be held accountable for their decisions on how to regulate and tax Bitcoin.

What a fake poll.

80% of the country doesn't even know what bitcoins are.

Since something like 90% of Americans have never heard of bitcoin this statistic can not be true.

And I am sure that they are the ones who want the government to ban Bitcoin.

People can't want to ban something that they've never heard of. How are you able to type with all the drool on your keyboard? Don't bother answering, I already ignored you.

Calm down. You didn't understand what he told and it is not his problem. Just admit that you are not very bright.

What he really meant might be people who have never heard about bitcoin before this poll were the ones who wanted to ban it.

It is clear that the pollster is biased. He would have asked something like "Bitcoin is a form of digital currency used for the purchase of drugs. Do you favor banning it?"

Off course the idiots who have never heard about Bitcoin earlier will immediately agree to ban it. On the other hand, people who are actually familiar with Bitcoin will never agree to a ban.

If we asked people about the idea of e-mail back in the 80's, I believe 90% of them would say that this fits no one needs, yet still they cannot imagine the life without online communication at presence. The same would apply to Bitcoin protocol. 10 years from now, I am pretty sure I will be able to pay for everything I want.

Since something like 90% of Americans have never heard of bitcoin this statistic can not be true.

Many published statistics are fabricated or have their results "massaged". It's a relatively cheap way to steer the perceptions of the masses.

When asked for their opinion, sheep without opinions will ask "what do most people think", out of fear of looking stupid and being oestracised from the main herd.

if it's banned what will happen to online drug marketplaces??

Well drug marketplaces are already working with half the market banned anyway (the drugs are banned).

So they would just end up running with both sides of the market banned.

Well drug marketplaces are already working with half the market banned anyway (the drugs are banned).

So they would just end up running with both sides of the market banned.

and they'll not care and sell their drugs anyway.

Even when 10% of your market is banned, your whole business is already considered illegal in the first place.
