I could see Facebook coming to accept bitcoin in exchange for their own credits. I mean, why not? Payment processing is cheap, and they get another niche of customers who otherwise would not pay. Win/win.

This would make much more sense that having they credits. I imagine many people would join with bitcoin that wouldn't do so with the current system, just because it's weird to have credits that are only valid for one website.

But Facebook wants you to have credits stuck on their site. Just like businesses want you stuck with their gift cards, rather than cash that can be spent anywhere. It's guaranteed business.

exactly -- so it makes perfect sense IMO to both accept BTC for payment (targeting the geek/libertarian/bitcoin crowd), and also retain the "gift card" nature of their credit system.

Hello all,
I hear of some rumors that Facebook is going to accept BTC in the near future Smiley Am i late with this news, or just misunderstand ?

BR,

Gondel

It is not so much that Facebook is accepting BTC, it is that there is an app/wallet service that will allow you to send BTC to your facebook friends.

This may help get the masses interested/involved in BTC but is horrible for anonymity and security.

That's what they want, but I hope they could see that they'd profit much more with another system.
Simply because more people would get in.

All they need to do is integrate bitpay and no need to worry volatility and license issue.

That or coinbase even expedia is doing it now
Not including Overstock Dish and a good handful of other large retail merchants presently.
It's only a matter of time in my opinion

I think, at some point, it might, but nothing is certain yet. There seem to be some discussions toward Bitcoin adoption. It may not happen right away, but if it does, this will be a game changer for Bitcoin. Anyway, this move by facebook leaves room for much speculation. Grin

Just getting it in front of such a large group of people would be huge.

If Facebook accepts Bitcoin, there will be more theft because security of Facebook is too much low, and the user that use it not use a sufficent security (for example easy password, ecc.) and then, don't have a good culture regard to safety.

True, this is why i'm a little bit sceptical! But they are saying that they are working on special wallet that will make the system more secure.

People who are using simple passwords and repeating their passwords everywhere in some moment are going to loose some cash doesent matter if they know about BTC or not. So when you are not careful there is always a chance to be scamed by someone.

would be nice to see that happen, but facebook allready has that facebook gold, equivalent of virtual coins, so i doubt they need bitcoin.
on the other hand, buying their gold with btc would be a good idea, they wouldnt loose anything, but get more audience.

And for this reason, getting more audience, I think they will implement BTC payment. Anyway, it's good to keep an eye open for this because they have nothing to loose.  Wink

But with BTC is most easy that a people can be scammed, keep in mind that BTC is not refundable.

So, I hope that, if Facebook will adopt BTC, increase security method on the user account.

This would be good.
I think they should already put it, as many people have businesses there even without bitcoin.

By most standards Facebook's security is not good.

But with BTC is most easy that a people can be scammed, keep in mind that BTC is not refundable.
