http://www.coindesk.com/south-african-smart-meters-incorporate-bitcoin-prepaid-electricity/

I've just seen this article on coindesk about a company in South Africa accepting bitcoin for energy. I've emailed info@invirohub.com the following:

"Hi. I've just read an article about your company accepting bitcoin for energy in South Africa. I am extremely excited to hear this news, but also would like to tell you that bitcoin actually uses lots and lots of energy. There are alternative crypto currencies available to people that do not waste so much. Energycoin seeks to save energy by using a "proof of stake" method for minting new coins rather than "proof of work" which requires very large computers running 24/7.

http://cointelegraph.com/news/111461/energycoin_the_power_saving_crypto_currency_ends_ipo

Please consider also accepting this currency for energy and we can save energy together. "

I like the email! Keep us updated on what the response is. If they respond, they are likely going to need more details about why it's the green alternative.

I want to continue discussions, but that forum is awful looking lol. nobody seems to want to join me in the #energycoin room on freenode. chat rooms are a nice way to keep a continuous conversation and we can also look into setting up a lottery tipbot with a big jackpot to bring more people to the room and to our community. I am in the #PandacoinPND room and they have something like this and they have a very active and supportive community. #energycoin has only two users. me and First2Fight. where's the love at?

I did join there when you just announced it, I was on the chatroom for a couple of hours but nobody else joined and thought no one is interested. If we can move forward there I will be happy to be there every time I can. I will support the chat room and any positive initiative for EnergyCoin.

The reason I like the forum is the fact that an idea can be posted and you can leave it there where everyone can read it again if they need to.

Please keep on posting the #energycoin room on freenode to remind everyone.

Ok Guys now is the time to join us in http://webchat.freenode.net/ #energycoin
Alrighty, I've got a lotto tipbot working in our #energycoin room on freenode thanks to user amDOGE. join the chat and type !lotto to win anywhere from 10 to 500 energycoin. use /msg enrgbot help for information about how to deposit and withdraw enrg to your irc account. users will have to be identified with freenode in order to participate, check out http://www.wikihow.com/Register-a-User-Name-on-Freenode if you need help.

we may increase the amount you have the chance of winning if people contribute to the bot by typing !tip enrgbot 5000. I've already contributed 5000 to get things going. Hopefully some of our awesome members will join the conversation and have a good time/discuss our coins future. don't forget to try !rain command, that one is fun. Cheesy
