Motocoin is a cryptocurrency utilizing an innovative proof-of-play scheme where coins can only be mined by cognitive workload - playing a 2D motorbike simulation game, which is different from Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies that use a proof-of-work scheme where miners must perform difficult computations and then use proof of that work to secure coin transactions and get their reward. Motocoin was historically dominated by bots, but is currently testing a new security model that better enforces balanced play. Game ScreenshotsClick to enlarge: Network Parameters- Blocks are generated on average every 60 seconds.
- The reward for solving a block starts at 20 motocoins, which is halved every 1'000'000 blocks (about two years) and stops decreasing at 0.4 motocoins per block.
- Mining difficulty is adjusted every 2000 blocks through lowering the target time if blocks took less than an average of 60 seconds to generate, or raising the target time if blocks took longer than that.
- ≈40 million coins are to be generated during the first 12 years and ≈200,000 coins per year after.
- 450K premine (was partially used for rewards, the rest was sold in panic during the early days of Motocoin).

Nice idea with playing a game in order to get some coins. Good luck with your project, mate!

I tested it on WinXP, it works. Issue may be with too old GPU or GPU driver. Updating GPU driver may help. Game outputs some debug info. To collect it create bat file in game directory with content motogame > out.txt and run it. Then just copy content of out.txt here, this may help.

I like so much your project by the way. Your GPU supports only OpenGL 2 but game requires OpenGL 3. Later I might port it to older OpenGL version so that people with older hardware could use it.

Fun game and really hard. I'm so looking forward to this release.
So no mining whatsoever, just game playing? How does the blockchain move along?

Each level is pseudo-randomly generated based on transactions in new block. Each time someone completes level new block is generated. Replay is saved (in very compact format) and used as proof of work (just like nonce in Bitcoin). Target time (starts with 60 seconds) is used to regulate speed of block generation. Also, you will be able to watch game replay for each block.

It isn't easy to make bot for this game. Sometime in the future maybe someone will make such a bot. Then this currency will be mined with these bots, it will be like switch from CPU -> GPU -> ASIC for other cryptocurrencies. But I don't expect this to happen soon.

How do you prove that someone really played the level he got created? What if he modifies his client? How can you stop this behaviour?

This game has deterministic physics and all your game actions are saved so it is easy for each client to check if you really completed the level. If someone will modify client and change the game then he will fork the network and other clients will not accept blocks mined by him.
