This is what we call the host advantage. FIFA is actually going to be happy with this. They would prefer the nation with 200 million people winning the game, when compared to the one with less than 5 million people. Marketing and TV rights matters a lot. 

But still, I think that with unbiased refereeing, Croatia would have drawn with Brazil 2-2.

It is advantage Spain, for today's match. I'll be expecting a 3-0 or even a 4-0 result. The Dutch defence is looking very weak right now, although their attack is top class.

I really hope Netherlands can pull it off, after the all Spain Champions League final, I am almost rooting against them...

Happens in every major sport event, be it football or some other game. If Brazil crashes out in the group stage, then the organizers will lose billions of USD in revenue. Even if Brazil finishes as the runners up, then the chances for a Brazil vs Argentina final will be greatly reduced.
