our acquired coins are lost? do we have to delete wallet and replace it?

Yes we will be on a brand new chain, the wallet ports will be changed and a new genesis block created.

When we launch, the coin wont start retargeting every block until block 250. before that it will be retargeting every 30 blocks, so will feel like the difficulty isn't moving, but not for long.

I built for linux from the above source and i get the following error when trying to run it:
Code:

boostcoin-qt: src/kernel.cpp:372: unsigned int GetStakeModifierChecksum(const CBlockIndex*):
Assertion `pindex->pprev || pindex->GetBlockHash() == (!fTestNet ? hashGenesisBlock : hashGenesisBlockTestNet)' failed.

any suggestions?

Did you delete all the support file for the old wallet first?
Assertion failed means the genesis block in the wallet code doesnt match the genesis block in the block database

Block reward 15 only?

No it's 515 coins per block. 500 for the miner and 15 goes to the foundation address for long term support
