Of course there's a catch! Why the hell wouldn't there be?

Long story short: I think I bricked them, yes 2 out of my 3 mobos. Two brand new MS 890FXA GD65 boards that never experienced the joy of mining (okay one did for about 5 minutes as a test). But all I did was uninstall AMD Catalyst drivers now the damn things won't even POST. I already tried to flash the BIOS; but good luck with that because the USB ports aren't working. The CPU fans spins and a lane of 8 blue lights gives off the calmest illumination... but nothing.

Now for the terms:

* It's a contest! Post something to make me LOL (I need this while I'm waiting for my replacements) multiple entries allowed but you can only have one
* If you manage to fix, you must post the solution (No one should ever have to go through what I did the past few days!)
* Two winners must promise to play it forward - do something for someone else, why don't you
* Oh - And you pay for shipping (it'll be arriving from SC) I'll pack it up nicely as if they actually worked

Anyhoo - I'm hitting the sack now but will check back later today when I get off from work.

Game on!

And no, it's not a bad CPU or PSU. I have two Consair AXi 1200w and tried the CPUs on another board.

Do you have the PCIe power connected?
I have a MSI 990 and 880, both FX. The 990 would not boot at all without the PCIe power. The 880 worked for 2 months with it and one day wouldn't come back after a reboot until I connected the PCIe power.

With both boards, all the blue lights came on but it would not post.

Thanks for the input! Yes, I actually have to connect the 8 and 6 pin molex along with the PCIe cable to the PSU. I think the BIOS is corrupted... that's what hours of trying to find a solution online led me to believe anyway.

Do the following before giving the boards away (if you haven't already done so):

1.) Unplug the ATX power supply from the board
2.) Pull the CMOS battery
3.) Move the CMOS clear jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 (which should be clear) (*note: if this is in the wrong position, it could explain why the board isn't functioning).

I recommended leaving everything alone for 15 minutes to a few hours just to completely clear everything. If you have a volt meter, check out the CMOS battery and see if the voltage is in a usable range.

Cheers,

Been there - done that. Actually removed the CMOS battery for about a day. Breadboarded too.

I still don't have any takes... looks like no one wants my junk Wink

It can be difficult to gauge another's sense of humor without being face to face so something I find hysterical may not get any reaction from you and vice-versa. However I'd be interested in one of the boards for something to tinker with even though I'd need to pick up an AM3 CPU to do so Cheesy

If you're looking for a replacement I've got a MSI 790GX-G65 that still boots Tongue

I submit the following

A Frenchman, an Englishman and a New Yorker were captured by cannibals. The chief comes to them and says, "The bad news is that now we've caught you and we're going to kill you. We will put you in a pot, cook you, eat you and then we're going to use your skins to build a canoe. The good news is that you can choose how to die."

The Frenchman says, "I take ze sword." The chief gives him a sword, the Frenchman says, "Vive la France!" and runs himself through.

The Englishman says, "a pistol for me please." The chief gives him a pistol, the Englishman points it at his head and says, "God save the queen!" and blows his brains out.

The New Yorker says, "Gimme a fork!" The chief is puzzled, but he shrugs and gives him a fork. The New Yorker takes the fork and starts jabbing himself all over--the stomach, the sides, the chest, everywhere. There is blood gushing out all over, it's horrible. The chief is appalled and asks, "My God, what are you doing?"

And the New Yorker responds, "So much for your canoe you stupid cannibal!

The Catalyst complete uninstall tool (not the regular uninstaller) nukes all AMD drivers, which may have screwed up the OS running on your boards though it shouldn't have stopped it from working.

I'm interested in one of the boards, if shipping (to CA) isn't too bad. You said they were brand new; are they still under warranty? if so, you could try to RMA them, or send the info for it on to whoever gets the boards if you don't want to bother.

For humor, I submit an XKCD comic:

Alt text: "For the first time ever, the phrase 'I'd like to thank everyone at 4chan for making me successful and happy' is uttered."

Little Bruce and his friend Jenny are only 10 years old, but they know
they are in love. One day they decide that they want to get married, so
Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand.

Bruce bravely walks up to him and says, "Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in
love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage."

Thinking that this was just the cutest thing, Mr. Smith replies, "Well,
Bruce, you are only 10. Where will you two live?"

Without even taking a moment to think about it, Bruce replies, "In
Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can both fit in it nicely."

Still thinking this is just adorable, Mr. Smith says with a huge grin,
"Okay, then how will you live? You're not old enough to get a job.
 You'll need to support Jenny."

Again, Bruce instantly replies, "Our allowance, Jenny makes five bucks
 a week and I make 10 bucks a week. That's about 60 bucks a month, so
that should do us just fine."

Mr. Smith is impressed. Bruce has put so much thought into this.

"Well Bruce, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have
one more question. What will you do if the two of you should have
 little children of your own?"

Bruce just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Well, we've been lucky so
 far."

Mr. Smith no longer thinks the little punk is adorable. …

Congrats Cascaders28... You just got yourself a free freaking mobo that's actually working.... It was the fucking CPU!!! I had a friend who told me that he checked it - liar. Anyways, I bought an ASUS Sabortooth 990fa from a local store yesterday. Hooked everything up -behold! The CPU red light was on and they system wouldn't boot.

So do have fun with it Smiley but I think I want to keep the other as a spare so I'm closing house before someone else makes me laugh. Just ironic.., this thread sat idle for days-now that they work, I have submissions, Smh.

I'm on the way back to that store to snag another CPU now. And I don't want that piece of junk you have, btw lol. But I appreciate the offer.

It can be difficult to gauge another's sense of humor without being face to face so something I find hysterical may not get any reaction from you and vice-versa. However I'd be interested in one of the boards for something to tinker with even though I'd need to pick up an AM3 CPU to do so Cheesy
