This is probably a stupid question, but why does anybody need to use a cryptocurrency escrow service? Why can't the buyer and seller just make a bid and an ask on one of the exchanges (like cryptsy.com) ?  I understand about escrow services in general (I have used escrow.com for dozens of domains purchases and sales), I just am unfamiliar with their use in this area.

Crypto transactions are irreversible, therefore escrow services can add trust and reliability to them.
Using an escrow for Crypto also reduces your chances of being scammed by a huge factor.

Let me rephrase the question. Is there any reason anybody would use escrow if the coin is already traded on an exchange?
I assume that using an exchange eliminates the scam risk part, so it does not matter that it is irreversible.  I know an exchange (like Mt Gox) can of course go out of business, but it seems like that risk is less than the risk of the escrow company going out of business.

If you want to buy a phone from sombody you can't buy it from cryptsy, you need to use escrow.

Right, escrow services on Bitcointalk are more for services and goods being sold.

High volume transactions are way cheaper than paying depositing , trading and withdrawal fee. All of that 2 times.

Many escrows will offer a flat rate for deals.

Update!  People who have used me as escrow 3 or more times will get unlimited escrow services for a week, for free, up to 2 BTC worth of trades total.

Yay!  Free escrow service for a week!  Come on, you know you want that Wink.  Must provide proof or offer quote or something that shows we have indeed done trades 3 or more times in the past.

Because it is allowed by the forum, yes.. I do escrow bitcointalk accounts, but for a 1% fee.
It shouldn't be used for any scamming, stealing, or illegal purposes.

Wow man. He is fast as lightning and does his work well. Added trust on your profile. Well, now I understand why people escrow higher trust members. Anyways these +9 trust aren't given just for scamming anyone. They are given as a mark of excellence and it is proved.

Shameless bump
Again. Smiley  Anyone who needs to trade should always get an escrow unless they completely trust the other party.
