You're right that more choices (characters vs dice rolls) give you more combinations given the same exponent.  But that's why you roll the dice 64 times. It's a heck of a lot of combinations.

Why not roll the dice 1000 times?  Because 64 is all you need.  There's only 6^64 bit coin addresses!

and to put it in perspective, amount of different 64 dice roll combinations is approximately equal to the number of atoms comprising our planet earth. so imagine you hide your wallet as one atom somewhere inside the planet's core and sleep well.

Thanks to all who replied. I had all this explained to me back in March when I put my BTC into cold storage. I was perfectly happy with that until someone on here (I can't remember who) told me a few days ago that my BTC were not safe at all & would be stolen in a few weeks, if not a few days.

If you used a less than random method of creating your private key, like a password, it is possible for the password to be brute-forced with a dictionary attack.  Those using a brain wallet with a short password are susceptible to this.  Just use a randomly generated private key and you are fine as long as you keep that key safe.

Wrt this thread's title, anyone holding at least 1 Bitcoin can be considered a bitcoinaire.  It implies wealth.  The market price for BTC today is very undervalued.  So buy, but don't sell at anything less than a value that implies 1 BTC means wealth.

Yes even for the people who dont have enough money to buy lets say, 5,000 mBTC, if they buy just 500 mBTC they can make a good profit tough and thats not alot of money to invest ,  they will make a good sum of money when btc rises to 5 k or even 50 k.

yea I'm even more confused with the last page of posts and that is why I will probably be keeping all my coins in/at Coinbase.

if you're going to do that, just make sure to use all the security features coinbase has available to you.

also you may want to enable 2 factor authentication on the email address linked to your coinbase account, i recently saw someone on reddit complaining about a hacker getting into their coinbase account after having their email compromised. and of course make sure to use a unique strong password...never use it anywhere else.

Personally, I'd never use 2FA unless I can use it with my phone.

I would go out on a limb and say that at least 80-90% of the people here that have 15k or more invested in BTCs.

If the polls taken here are to be believed (and they could be as they were anonymous voting), 80-90% of people here own less than 10 BTC.

Very, very few own more.

But that doesn't have to matter much, if 1 BTC hits $100,000.

Anyone know how to set up a new poll (anonymous of course) so that we could see what the percentage of people with under/over 10 coins now is?
