And NEM can get out of this unpleasant situation stronger than before. But only if it makes the right moves/choices how to handle this. This is move in the right direction I believe From the leader I failed in my personal conduct and not adhere to the rules I set myself. If you are familiar with American politics, now I have the Eliot Spitzer or Anthony Weiner problem.
I had a few sockpuppet accounts but I have no intention of cashing out any of them. I did not write down the sock accounts (using an arbitrary password that I can't remember) neither and plan to donate the fees for the development fund. I created sock accounts to keep the thread at a high demand when we have few supporters. Ghosthouse is the only account I kept using more so that I can use it sometimes to cheer up NEM threads.
It is what it is. I apologize to my core team members, to all NEM supporting developers and helpers for this issue. I will step down from now on.
The task of maintaining NEM stakeholder list will be transfered to Patmast3r. He has been sharing the access to the file with me for quite sometimes. NEMtoken account will be passed to Pastmast3r as well.
NEM Twitter account will be transfered to Makoto and he could pass on to the most suitable person.
NEM development fund accounts will be fully transfered to Jaguar0625, Gimre and Thies1965.
Ournem website will be transfered to the core team as well.
Update and Discussion and Refunds threads will be closed after new threads with similar functions can be made up.
All press contacts will be passed to the core team so that they can find an appropriate person for the job.
I resign from all leading function within NEM and this will be the last post of UtopianFuture.

Until today NEM was good promises and hot air. Now, it is turning its face to the "scam side" dangerously.

I looks like the old NEM thread was locked before I could post my response. In any event, these are my thoughts:
I'm saddened and disappointed by what has happened today. There is no excuse for what utopianfuture did. It's unprofessional to bash another coin anonymously using sockpuppet accounts. It's worse that those same sockpuppet accounts were used to sign up for NEM stakes because that goes directly against NEM's fair distribution principle.
Having said all that, I would like to thank utopianfuture for what he has done for NEM up until now. Without utopianfuture, NEM wouldn't exist. He conceived of the idea and recruited a lot of the core dev team, including myself. He has also done a number of things behind the scenes, including paying some out-of-pocket costs (in fiat).
I've heard from a plurality of the core dev team and they mostly share this sentiment. I'm sure I will hear from the rest of the team at some point over the weekend. But, aside from a lot of extra gossip, this transgression shouldn't impact the development of NEM. utopianfuture is not a developer and has not written a single line of code.
I'm hopeful that NEM will emerge from this situation even stronger. NEM was always built around decentralization and fairness and having a single "leader" is really diametrically opposed to that. NEM needs to have a community, not a leader.
As for myself, can you trust me? That's up to you to decide, but I will share a few things:
1. I've never heard of simcoin. 2. I'm to busy coding to have sockpuppet account. 3. I don't have a multiple personality disorder.
Let's try to move forward instead of living in the past. The open alpha is less than two weeks away!
P.S. The core dev team will be reaching out to the community to find someone to lead the marketing and biz-dev of NEM going forward. Understandably, we want to spend most of our time coding until NEM is ready.
P.P.S. I will be on the #ournem IRC channel for the next half hour if anyone has questions for me.

who cares about a launch after a discovery of an insane hoax? people first have to get their mind together and fix their bloody stabbed back. u can not expect us to happily embrace the launch after todays insanity
by the way jaguar how did u not notice what utopianfuture did to u? were u just a mechanical slave?
The comment about being excited about the alpha was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I don't blame people for being upset. I, myself, am disappointed. I didn't notice what utopianfuture did because I was too busy coding. I trusted him and others to do the taint analysis. Maybe I misplaced my trust.

Those accounts were used to register stakes but they were later taken off the list. UtopianFuture was only padding up interest, at the very beginning, a common marketing technique on Bitcointalk but not completely ethical. How did you know Satoshi didn't create a dozen fake aliases to promote Bitcoin back in 2009?
Utopian padding up fake interest in the beginning doesn't change the fact we have outstanding developers such as Jagaur.
I feel that's not the real issue here. The real issue is this Call from Above person who irrationally wants to discredit NEM due to some vendetta towards UtopianFuture. Maybe CFA is a 'tard or a sockpuppet from the Sim Coin community, I don't particularly care but what I do care about are his irritable posts and the fact he has created five spam threads about NEM so far.
Why is it only one person who is running a crusade against NEM?

This is why IPO coins are all scams.
All coins have a good portion of unethical behaviour, that is because the "human" is not a selfless creature. Selfintrest lies in our genes. As long as persons will be in charge and given too much power, corruption and wrongdoing will happen. Don't blame IPO coins per-se. Not fair!

Why do you keep defending UF? He admitted he messed up, why do you persist in trying to tell us otherwise? What good does it do to skew reality any further at this point?

I am expressively addressing your claim that he somehow scammed people, when did not. Nobody lost their money, NEM or tokens. All that occurred was popularity hoaxing, which is a common marketing technique employed by new coins and even real world products & companies. Is it ethical? No. Is it everyday reality much like we breathe oxygen? Yes.

Maybe for you. Maybe you live in a world where decaying ethics reign supreme over truth and honesty. I don't. OF COURSE UF SCAMMED PEOPLE!!!!! He LIED about his own activities, about the nature of the distribution, about his intentions... FOR MONTHS!!!!! STOP PRETENDING THIS IS DECENT, ORDINARY HUMAN BEHAVIOR! IT IS NOT!! You just want to drag the rest of civilization down into the low moral crevasse that you inhabit. Cut it out.

If Utopian want more and claim it public, that's okay. But he chose using a sockpuppet to get more, that's the problem. Because it against the rule he set it himself. No body know how many sockpuppet he really have. And also body know how many sockpuppet his team really have.
