is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2630 v2@2.60GHz good for mining monero? Cores:6 Logical Processors:12 L1:348KB L2:1.5MB L3:15.0MB You will need to experiment with number of threads to maximize your hash rate. Probably 7-8, but do let us know. With 7 threads hashrate: 52.2105 hashrate: 57.1053 hashrate: 59.2105 hashrate: 59.2105 hashrate: 55.5789 hashrate: 43.7368 hashrate: 44.0000 hashrate: 55.7895 hashrate: 67.4211 hashrate: 78.8421 hashrate: 73.1053 hashrate: 71.0526 hashrate: 71.0526 hashrate: 71.0526 hashrate: 69.1053 hashrate: 69.6316 hashrate: 69.6316 hashrate: 69.6316 hashrate: 69.6316 hashrate: 69.6316 hashrate: 67.4211 hashrate: 70.4737 with 8 threads hashrate: 34.5789 hashrate: 36.1053 hashrate: 38.4737 hashrate: 38.4737 hashrate: 38.4737 hashrate: 38.4737 hashrate: 38.4737 hashrate: 37.8947 hashrate: 27.2632 hashrate: 25.1579 hashrate: 31.3158 hashrate: 42.4211 hashrate: 45.5263 hashrate: 44.8421 hashrate: 36.9474 hashrate: 36.9474 hashrate: 36.9474 hashrate: 36.9474
is this speed good? I will let it run for a few more hours while I go and eat .... maybe it will find something .... and if i don't maybe I will just go to a pool .... i saw that p2pools are not yet ready .... or they weren't at launch .... if someone knows a p2pool for monero let me know

There is no p2pool yet. You can definitely continue to solo mine, as I indicated, but don't expect quick or consistent results. Think of it as a raffle.
Play around some more with the number of threads, maybe smaller?
Also, if you are on linux, make sure you have huge pages allocated.
Your hash rate seems low to me. Do you have something else running on the same box?

No for pool mining you don't need the blockchain. But you aren't helping the network (as much). P.S. after I got the green message that it synchronized ok now the hashrate is stable at 223.7895
That sounds like a fairly reasonable number for the CPU. A bit slower than the current ones but it is an older model.

serje: PM me and I can probably help you get more hashrate out of that Xeon. And you gotta love that server mobo you have with 24 DIMM slots. Oh and about digitalocean: $5 a month level nets ~15 hash/sec. Pretty weak, imho.

I registered for the "750 hours per month of Windows t2.micro instance usage" to try some XMR mining on there for free.
It started off well with me getting about 50H/s as expcted, but less than an hour in, it had sunk to about 2H/s. Is this an intentional cap from amazon do somehow discourage this kind of use?
Anyone knows? Thank you

Do the old miners know I'm new??? Why I always end up with this kind of messages transaction fee is not enough: 0.005941300000, minumim fee: 0.100000000000 Please don't send me anymore transactions that are not having the minimum fee of 0.1 XMR P.S. Still no block found and we are close to the 24h run!!!

24 hrs? What is your HR, ~200 h/s? What is the network HR? Currently ~ 24,000,000 h/s How many blocks mined in 24 hrs? 60x24=1440 24,000,000/200/1440=~83 So at the current difficulty you will find a block on average every 83 days. With variance that could be 8 days or a year. And if the network HR goes up.................

I am stable here ... at this speed hashrate: 243.2105 hashrate: 243.1053 hashrate: 242.9474 hashrate: 242.7368
So should I go mine in a pool? as people told me it would help more the network if I solo mine .... but they never said it will take me 83 days to find a block ... I was thinking I will find 1 very 2 days .... or something like that ... but not every 83 days

I told you it was like a raffle, but actual numbers are more clear. If you go with a pool you will get about 0.176 XMR/day less losses from pool fees and inefficiency. You know the numbers you have to decide what you want to do.

Slow pony edit. I wrote this and then saw that smooth replied but I will post this anyway as it may have details that have some meaning for you. My final answer was not edited ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your expectation for how many coins you could mine seems to have come from If the parameters stay the same in the long run you will mine the same # of coins. The long run is however very long in your case. That is why people join pools, to decrease variance. Also the likelihood of the HR increasing in the future along with the reward slowly decreasing is another reason people choose to decrease their variance. Many take it to the other extreme and look for the pool with the largest HR. This is also not good for the network as you don't want the network HR concentrated. It is also not necessary in regards to variance IMO. I mine on a small pool and it can take 2 days or an hour to find a block. In a couple of weeks it averages out which is fine for me. So if my arithmetic was correct and you will find a block in 83 days on average and the block reward is ~ 14.6 then 14.6/83=0.176 XMR/day
